WELCOME TO PART-TIME STUDY AT CITY COLLEGE Welcome to our part-time course guide for 2016/17. We offer a comprehensive range of part-time courses so whether you are hoping to improve your career prospects, change direction or return to work, then we have a course to suit you!

CAREERS ADVICE AND GUIDANCE Are you looking for a course to improve your qualifications or to help change your career direction? The Careers team at City College offers FREE, Matrix accredited, confidential and impartial advice and guidance to students before, during and immediately after their course.

The team can help with a wide range of issues, including looking at your options for further or higher education and careers, job search techniques and applying to university. To book an appointment with a Careers Advisor, call 01752 305803 or e-mail info@cityplym.ac.uk.

CURIOUS KITTENS DAY NURSERIES If you are a parent, our outstanding nurseries will enable you to study knowing that your children (six months to school entry age) are being looked after in a stimulating and caring environment. Nurseries are located at both Kings Road and Goschen.

Both our nurseries were graded â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Outstandingâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; at their last Ofsted inspections. For full reports visit the Ofsted website at www.ofsted.gov.uk.

Most students will be eligible for help with childcare costs - please contact the Student Funding team on 01752 305381 for advice and guidance.

Please note that spaces are available on a first come, first served basis so please apply as early as possible.

A free breakfast of tea, coffee or juice and cereal, toast or fruit will be available for students on their normal College days in the main College refectories at Kings Road and Goschen (term-time only).

The Breakfast Club is available between 7.45am and 9.15am at Kings Road and between 8.00am and 9.15am at Goschen.

FUNDING YOUR COURSE You may be entitled to a FREE course if you:

Paying in instalments Please note that we offer instalment arrangements for the tuition fees element for many of our courses. You will be asked to pay a minimum of 25% before, or at enrolment, followed by up to a further three instalments depending on the length of your course. Instalment arrangements are managed through our recurring card payment system. Please note instalment facilities are not available for ancillary (material), or other course costs or for short courses of less than ten weeks’ duration.

** To claim fee remission you will need to provide evidence of any benefits, which should be dated within six weeks of the date on which you enrol. Please note that these rules are subject to change.

FREE level 1 courses! If you are aged 19-23 there is some funding available to support you in undertaking a level 1 course if your aim is to progress to a level 2 course or Apprenticeship programme.

The College has a Discretionary Learner Support fund which provides financial or ‘in kind’ help to eligible students aged 19+ with a number of

ADVANCED LEARNER LOANS If you are aged 19 or over and thinking about studying a course that's level 3* or above then you could be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan.

Key facts ¢¢To qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan

you must:

- be aged 19+ at the start of your course - be a resident in the UK - be studying an eligible course at level 3 or above (including QCF Certificates and Diplomas, Access to Higher Education). ¢¢You will only be able to apply for a loan to

meet the upfront costs of your qualification, which will be paid directly to the College.

This link also has more information on the Advanced Learner Loans scheme - including information on the amounts available and the collection of repayments.

¢¢The loans are not means tested or credit

checked so if you meet the criteria you will be able to apply for a loan whether you are employed or unemployed.

¢¢You don’t pay anything upfront for your course

fees and if you’re not earning over £21,000, you won’t have to pay anything back (certain criteria apply). ¢¢If your loan is to cover the fees for an Access

to Higher Education course and you progress to complete a university-level (higher education) course, you will not have to pay back your Advanced Learner Loan.

* PLEASE NOTE: if you are applying for your first full level 3 course (equivalent to A Level) and you are aged between 19 and 23, then your course may be FREE!

UNIVERSITY SHORT COURSES & CPD AWARDS Our flexible Short Course and Certificate of Professional Development (CPD) awards can be studied in a variety of subjects at higher education level. In partnership with Plymouth University we can offer university-level modules from any of our Foundation Degrees. These courses allow you to build higher-level skills and support career development, as well as supporting progression onto further university-level qualifications. They are an excellent way of trying an area of study before committing to a full qualification.

Short Courses - all of the short courses are either ten or 20 modules, and you can study up to 40 credits, which will be awarded by Plymouth University. CPD Awards - these awards consist of 60 credits and can be studied using modules across the range of our Foundation Degrees, although would usually be in related subjects. These awards are professionally focused, and designed to support business and employer needs. On completion you will be awarded a Certificate of Professional Development by Plymouth University.

Although you can’t build a full degree out of these qualifications, you can use them towards an appropriate Higher National Certificate or Foundation Degree, with a maximum of 120 credits allowed.
