Volunteering and the Japanese Tsunami Caroline Pover has been involved in volunteering and charitable activities since she was seven years old. This talk focuses on her current activities on a remote peninsula in the northeast of Japan and how she is helping people who were affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

Personal Financial Management Basics of Banking This informative talk from the College’s Student Funding Officer will explain the definitions of ‘banking language’ and what’s involved with setting up a bank account. The session will look at different ways to save, as well as internet baking versus branch banking. Claire Roberts will be on hand to answer questions relating to this topic.

Budgeting This session will give an overview of why budgeting whilst you are studying can help to alleviate unwanted stress. The workshop will look at budget plans and how to create them and ways to stick to a budget.

You do not have to be studying the topic to attend, just have an interest in what the speaker may have to say. Some of the speakers may have run their own businesses and others have many years of knowledge to pass on to you.

Working in… the Heating Industry This talk by Chris Robinson, Regional Sales Manager for Vaillant, will talk about how he progressed from an Apprentice to his current position. Come along and hear about his experiences in the heating industry and how the company has developed its products to become an award winning manufacturer.

Working in… the National Marine Aquarium Come along to this informative and fascinating talk by Dr David Gibson, Managing Director of the National Marine Aquarium, to hear how this favourite tourist attraction has developed. One of the best visitor attractions in the South West, Dr Gibson will explain how this charity is committed to promoting a sympathetic understanding of the sea through programmes of education, conservation and research.

Product Development and Marketing Philip Hamilton has helped launched over 100 new products throughout his career as Managing Director and Vice President International of Wrigley’s. Philip has also worked for CPC (Unilever) in the UK, USA, France, Belgium and Greece as a managing director, a marketing director and a brand manager. Phillip will look at how new products are developed in Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector and how to place your product in the correct market.

The Arctic Jubilee Challenge From a young age, Oli Milroy had always been interested in expeditions and through his work as Project Manager for Education Through Expeditions, he was fortunate to take part in the Arctic Jubilee Challenge this year. Hear how Oli prepared for this gruelling adventure, his role as PR Manager for the expedition and also how his involvement in various charity projects led to him being chosen to act as a torch bearer for the Olympic flame. An inspiring person, Oli can help you to realise your goals and will offer advice on how to achieve them. This really is a talk not to be missed!

Team Work and Achieving Success Come along to this fantastic session run by Dr Antony Jinman, Polar Explorer. Find out how Antony became an adventure tour guide at 23 and then an expedition leader at the age of 25, travelling extensively all over the world. Through his years of travelling, Antony has become an informed and passionate conservationist.
