RELIGIOUS STUDIES

Young Men and Women Formed in Faith

At Saint Joseph Academy, students are encouraged to provide community service at local charities. It is our experience that once students become immersed in service to the less fortunate, they come to understand what it means to be a Servant Leader and Agent of Justice and Peace. The students at Saint Joseph Academy complete over 10,000 community service project hours in any one given year.

SOME SERVICE PROJECTS BY SJA STUDENTS: Feeding the homeless monthly at the local homeless shelter Collecting Pet food to donate to local animal shelters Collect coats in the winter for those less fortunate Snack packs to feed the youth of Brownsville during the winter Operation Prom - donation of dresses and suits to those who cannot afford one. Collecting toys for kids during Christmas time

ATHLETICS

The 20-21 SJA Bloodhounds basketball team completed their season with an over all record of 14 wins and 5 losses. The Bloodhounds played against some great competitors in their non-district schedule. They played two tough games against Harlingen South and Harlingen. When district games began, the Bloodhounds beat Incarnate Word Academy (IWA) from Corpus Christi in their first district game. IWA was ranked 6th in the state but after a few more Bloodhound wins, the Hounds took the 6th place title in the state. In their last district game, the Bloodhounds defeated our rival, Laredo St Augustine, to capture the district championship and a first round bye in the playoffs. The Bloodhounds went on to defeat Lutheran South Academy with a score of 80-62 and advanced to the Elite 8!

The Lady Hounds went on to district play and won 7 out of their 8 games clinching the No. 1 seed and district title for TAPPS 5A district 4. The Lady Hounds then waited for 2 weeks as they received a first round bye, and played Sugarland Fort Bend in the Area round (Sweet 16) of the TAAPS state playoffs. The Lady Hounds came out on top winning by the score of 52-38 and advanced to the Elite 8 for the second time in 3 seasons.
