reetings from SJA and we hope this finds you and your family doing well and staying healthy. This first quarter of 2020 is certainly not what anyone expected amidst the COVID-19 pandemic that has had widespread effects across the globe. Here at SJA we are most proud of our school’s ability to transition to ‘distance learning’ with very few major obstacles. The credit must absolutely go to the flexibility and commitment of our teachers, students, and families. Students meet routinely with their teachers and classmates through Zoom, ensuring the continuity of education for our students. Compared to other schools in the area, we are considerably ahead of the curve. In light of these uncertain times, SJA continues to strive for excellence in all areas. We have been continuing our efforts to raise funds for the campaign and to date, we have raised over $3.1 million in pledges toward our ambitious dream of a more inspiring and accessible school for generations of St. Joe students to come. While we continue to gain momentum, we are excited for the progress we have already made the projects that have already been completed and initiated. The commitments and contributions that we have received so far have made these dreams a reality. We are most thankful to all of you for sharing our call.

If you have not yet reached a decision regarding your commitment, or have not yet documented your commitment, we respectfully ask you to allow us to address any questions you may have. We will do everything we can to help you reach a decision so that you may be recognized.

Please note: this list includes documented commitments only. Verbal commitments are documented internally but may not be published until the donor completes the Campaign Pledge Form.

Verbal vs. Documented Campaign Gifts Why is signing a campaign commitment form important?

Auditor Requirements: Major gifts are particularly susceptible to auditor review. Because of the size and scope of SJA’s campaign, and the magnitude of generosity towards this effort, it is especially critical that donors sign and date SJA’s campaign gift agreement forms. This will ensure we are able to demonstrate that all donor gift intentions have been honored. Payment Details: The form also informs SJA how the donor would like to fulfill their campaign commitment. Informing the Advancement Office of your anticipated payment timeline will allow us to send appropriate reminders and help us project campaign cash flow. Stewardship Instructions: Do you want your name written a certain way on donor lists? Or would you rather be anonymous? Your instructions will guide how we should honor your generosity as the campaign becomes more public this fall. Please contact Donna Barron at dbarron@sja.us or (956) 542-3581 x302 for more information on the documentation of campaign gifts.

Campaign Elements

I

n the fall of 2020, SJA will be launching its first Signature Program in International Leadership. This program features elements across all high-school grade levels and is open to all students! In addition to a specific academic sequence of classes, there are leadership seminars, activities and projects that students will participate in to earn the International Leadership endorsement from SJA.

Along with the launch of the first Signature Program, SJA has created a Dual Enrollment Educational Partnership (DEEP) program with UTRGV. The DEEP program will provide 11th & 12th grade students with the opportunity to earn up to 24 fully transferable college credits from UTRGV! At the heart of this one-of-a-kind partnership, UTRGV faculty will deliver instruction on the SJA campus! SJA is the only school in Brownsville with this partnership. This new deal more than doubles SJA’s dual enrollment opportunities, which is in addition to the 11 credits students can earn from our dual enrollment opportunities with TSC.

Last July, the roof of the Br. Francis Garza Student Center was replaced. This is one of the most utilized spaces on our campus as it is home to all school liturgies, basketball and volleyball games, pep rallies, assemblies, graduation and numerous other special events.
