Mission Statement

Conducted by the Marist Brothers of the Schools and serving the children of the lower Rio Grande Valley, Saint Joseph Academy provides religious and moral formation and a college preparatory education in the tradition of the Roman Catholic Church.

It endeavors to form young men and women who will succeed in university studies, who know and love Jesus, and who actively participate in the worship and mission of the Church, including the Church’s preferential option for the poor.

Marist Schools

Saint Joseph Academy is part of a worldwide network and community of Marist Brothers and lay people. There are currently 5,000 brothers in 76 countries throughout the world. A Marist School is a center of learning, of life, and of evangelizing. As a school, it leads students “to learn to know, to be competent, to live together and most especially, to grow as a person. As a Catholic school, it is a community setting in which faith, hope, and love are lived and communicated, and in which students are progressively initiated into their llifelong challenge of harmonizing culture and life. As a Catholic school in the Marist tradition, it adopts Marcellin's approach to educating children and youth, in the way of Mary.

Why St. Joe?

“My husband and I chose St. Joseph Academy for our children because we wanted to offer them the tools and foundation for academic success. St. Joe provides a quality, faith based and challenging academic curriculum, without compromising outstanding athletic programs or the social aspects of a typical middle school and high school experience. St. Joseph Academy is the whole package; a community, comfortable, safe, and familiar. It is today a very special place where bonds and friendships that can last a lifetime are built...as it has been since my days as a student at St. Joe. SJA has proven to be the best choice for our children. It's always a great day to be a Bloodhound!”

-Edge Boys, Class of 2021, Felicia Fruia-Edge, Class of 1985
