LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Dear Bloodhound Families and Friends,

s we navigate through a new school year, still surrounded by much uncertainty of a global pandemic, we reflect upon the 2020-2021 school year here at Saint Joseph Academy with much joy and celebration.

In the face of tremendous challenges, the SJA community shined. We are beyond proud of our efforts this past year in navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and having a successful, in-person school experience. Saint Joseph Academy was the first school in Brownsville to fully reopen for in-person learning and the first to resume competitive athletics—definitely much to celebrate!

Truly, our community never missed a beat. We found creative ways to live out our Marist, Catholic faith through socially distanced liturgies and events. We launched the DEEP Program (Dual Enrollment Educational Partnership) with UTRGV where 11th and 12th graders can now earn up to 35 fully transferable

college credits right here at St. Joe. Our Athletics teams took home 9 District Championships, including several post-season accolades. SJA exceeded its enrollment projections by 6%. Lastly, the icing on the cake was the performance of the Class of 2021 earning countless achievements including 5 Ivy-League acceptances, 40% acceptance rate to Texas A&M, 17% acceptance rate to University of Texas at Austin, and over $8 million dollars in scholarships!

Perhaps the greatest gift we received was the outpouring of support from our parents, alumni, and friends of Saint Joseph Academy. Every time we made a request, there was an overwhelming response, whether it was a call for time, talent, treasure, or prayers. Your unwavering support continued the proud tradition that is Saint Joseph Academy. This annual report might give the financial facts and figures of 2020-2021, but it will never tell the complete story. Numbers on a page can’t show the dedication and emotion that went into this school year. This report is a snapshot, but there is so much more to this story, and we are so very thankful that you were a part of it.

OUR TRADITION, OUR FUTURE CAMPAIGN

hile most of the school’s focus has been on providing a quality, Marist Catholic education amidst a pandemic over the past 18 months, the Our Tradition, Our Future Campaign needed to take a temporary backseat. However, SJA is excited to now resume its efforts to reignite the excitement and momentum we had built at the beginning of 2020. We hope we can continue to count on your support and commitment to SJA’s efforts as we move forward. We are excited to share the updates of the campaign and look forward to a fruitful future. As always,

we greatly appreciate your steadfast commitment to our mission and we look forward to building a stronger SJA with you in the months ahead. To date, Saint Joseph Academy has raised over $500,000 to substantially grow the school’s Endowment with the goal of providing tuition-assistance support to the school.

Funds from the Our Tradition, Our Future Campaign were put to good use in the 2020-2021 school year, as SJA renovated nine classrooms on the main campus. Improvements to classrooms included floor repairs, repainting, and in some cases a complete gutting with brand new walls and ceilings. Both technology labs received significant upgrades to its interior, infrastructure, and equipment--including updated computers and a new 3D printer. Most recently, the school completed the first two phases of the roof replacement program on the main campus. Contributors:

THE 34TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SJA ALUMNI GOLF TOURNAMENT

wenty twenty one marked the 34th anniversary of the SJA Alumni Golf Tournament. To celebrate this occasion, a full day of golfing was held, where all SJA alumni were invited to attend. The annual alumni golf tournament took place bright and early on the morning of Saturday, October 30, 2021 morning, followed by a family lunch and pool party at Rancho Viejo Country Club and Resort.

THE SJA ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB

he SJA Athletic Booster Club is comprised of dedicated, sports loving, parents who work tirelessly all year on various projects to benefit the athletic programs. They raise funds by selling ads for the Athletic Program Book, selling concessions at all home sporting events, planning and executing the Taste of the Town event, and their annual basketball tournament and BBQ plate dinner. With the proceeds from these activities and events, the Athletic Booster Club helps provide vital financial support to sustain and strengthen the various SJA athletic programs. The Booster Club has made a concerted effort to support each sport with special needs, such as equipment, new technology, etc.

It was a starry and brilliant night as the community of friends and family of Saint Joseph Academy gathered together for an evening of delectable food from local restaurants around the Rio Grande Valley, full bodied wines to sample from various regions of the worlds, and comradery with one another.

The Annual Taste of the Town is hosted by the SJA Athletic Booster Club as their primary fundraiser to support their yearly activities. This year, the Athletic

Booster Club thanks the event sponsor, Lower Valley Dental Associates for their contribution in supporting Taste of the Town.

Each year, the Athletic Booster Club honors a special person who gives of their time, love and support for athletics at St. Joe. This year, the Athletic Booster Club was proud to give tribute to the Tipton Family with the Ring of Honor award. aint Joseph Academy was pleased to host the 65th annual Style S h o w, o n e o f t h e school’s most timehonored traditional events showcasing the seniors of 2021. While keeping with safety protocols due to COVID, the SJA school administration and Style Show committee made some adjustments to the standard procedures and hosted the event in the Brother Francis Garza Student Center. This year’s production was titled Saint Joseph Academy Awards. The evening was filled with wonderful entertainment, beautiful fashion and artistic dancing.

The event would not have been made possible without the amazing team of volunteer parents that worked to pull it together as well as the incredibly talented volunteer choreographers who worked long hours with our students. We thank you so much for time and compassion for our students and school community.
