Brexit: A Bitter Breakup By Sven & Guus, V3at
Head of the remain campaign was prime minister David Cameron, who promised the referendum as he was re-running for his position. Opposed to him were former mayor of London Boris Johnson and UKIP (UK Independence Party) leader, Nigel Farage.
On the 23rd of June 2016, the British citizens voted in a referendum on leaving the European Union that was called ‘Brexit'. 52% of the British population voted for Brexit while 48% voted to remain. The Brexit win surprised many people; even politicians who were campaigning to leave the EU were shocked by the results. Months ago people would have sworn that the UK would never leave the EU but now we see that the British have not heeded the advice of economists and voted to leave despite many not knowing what they were even voting for. Maybe it's like Winston Churchill said: "The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter." Research has shown clearly that when talking about age, older people where the ones to vote in favour of a Brexit, whilst younger people and students were the ones to vote against one. They now feel like their future has been negatively altered for them, and they tend to dislike it, seeing their demonstrations and their petition for a second referendum. Also discovered was that people more educated mainly voted remain, and people who had no more than their GCSE's mostly voted leave. As did most people from the countryside, in the contrary to the majority of urban citizens, which voted remain.
But why o why, have the people spoken and decided as they did? Brexit's main arguments where those that reached all. Like the immigration stream which would lessen and become more controllable once the UK leaves. The immigration stream, mainly coming from the Middle East, had begun to be a problem in some South-European countries like Italy and Greece. The EU, as united as it is, decided that the problem could be greatly diminished if the amount of immigrants would be divided by all EU countries, of course according to their size and capacity. Many across Europe disliked the decision, but governments have to cooperate, they are part of the EU. The UK also disliked the idea, but hated the fact that it was decided by Brussels, not by London, more. Another argument that caused Brexit to be widely supported was that, just like with the immigrant stream, the British feel like Brussels is too much of an authority. They feel like they lost sovereignty and that Brexit will bring it back. These two arguments worked well as they are easy to understand, unlike the threat a Brexit is to the British economy, vote remain argument number one, which is more complex to fully comprehend. The first consequence of Brexit, which was already predicted by many economists, was that the pound sterling would hit an all-time low, it dropped down to a level which had not been seen for at least 30 years compared to the dollar. Dear readers, On behalf of our Junior group, I would like to thank you for reading the seventh edition of the St. Martin’s Courier. The V3at pupils worked on their stories during one of their weekly Maatwerkuren, to broaden their horizons and to improve their English writing skills. I am happy to report that the pupils were able to put together an issue with a wide variety of topics. As has been the case from the start, this Editor in Chief helped them along the way, but did not interfere in their writing process or what they were writing about. This also means that there might be mistakes in grammar and spelling, but I hope you will agree that this in no way affects the quality of the articles.

The economic uncertainty that came with Brexit caused the pound to drop very steeply and caused heavy shakes in the international stock market. S&P (Stand and Poor's), a credit rating firm, has already stripped the UK of its AAA rating that declined to an AA rating. This makes the UK's economy seem unstable and a lower credit rating also means that a country will have to pay a higher rent on its loans. It may well be that the UK will be going through a recession in the near future and a less flexible economy will mean that there will be fewer job opportunities. Not only in the economy is there now great uncertainty but a lot of European nations are not sure about what is going to happen next. A lot of right wing nationalists in European countries have already called for referendums in their own nations. It seems like Brexit has opened Pandora's box across Europe. In the Netherlands, Geert Wilders has called for a referendum and Marine le Pen with her National Front party is happy to join him. They all saw what happened in the UK and believe that they too can have a referendum on leaving the EU. There is basically a domino effect going on in Europe with the UK being the first domino to fall.
While many Leave campaigners promised that a Brexit would reunite the nation it has evidently done the opposite. It has led to a strong division inside the country. Scotland, which already had a referendum for independence in 2014, is now calling for a second referendum and North-Ireland wants to unite with her sister counterpart the Republic of Ireland. Even some Londoners now want independence from the UK. This is because North-Ireland, Scotland and London heavily disliked Brexit and voted to remain in the EU. They feel like they have been dragged out of the EU by the rest of the UK.
While nationalists in other European countries are calling for referendums to leave the EU, Nicola Sturgeon, the First minister of Scotland, wants a referendum to leave the UK and wants Scotland to join the EU. Should this happen, it would seem that Brexit turned the United Kingdom into the Kingdom of England and Wales.
In 2015 David Cameron was running for reelection, a year before he had already beaten a referendum on Scottish independence, and he won with a majority but it did not come without its costs. He had to promise that there would be another referendum, this time on the UK staying in the EU. Many thought of this referendum as Cameron's gamble, as a reckless decision to hold a referendum because he thought he could persuade the British people to stay but we see now he couldn't and he paid the price. The day after the referendum, The British Prime Minister, David Cameron, held a speech in Downing Street announcing his resignation. He said: "I held nothing back, I was absolutely clear about my belief that Britain is stronger, safer and better off inside the European Union and I made clear the referendum was about this and this alonenot the future of any single politician, including myself. But the British people have made a very clear decision to take a different path and as such I think the country requires fresh leadership to take it in this direction." And so David Cameron resigned as Prime Minister, not wanting to stay and lead his country into the direction it was headed, leaving a power vacuum. There have been no clear candidates yet for Prime Minister but many expect Boris Johnson or Theresa May to throw their hats in the ring.

The morning after the referendum, some people were hit by reality as they saw the consequences of a Brexit. A poll taken after the referendum, showed that over 1 million people now regret voting for Brexit and wish they could go back to change their vote. Some voted to leave because they thought their vote didn't matter and that remain would win, others saw their vote in the referendum as a protest vote against the establishment. Then there were those who say they believed the lies of politicians and felt robbed of their vote while some just voted without a reason. They have now all seen what a Brexit will mean for them in the future as a wave of economic and political uncertainty sweeps over the continent. There may still be a chance for these people as there is a petition under way for a second referendum that has already gathered more than 3.6 million votes.
Also throughout the continent people are demanding referendums and the whole idea of the potential problems that could arise gives the mood of all Europeans a touch of anxiousness. Whether the UK's economy will go through a recession or prosper, whether the UK will be united or divided, whether a great leader will come to Downing Street and whether this was the end of countries leaving the EU, we cannot predict. Only time can reveal the future that lies ahead.
As the people voted, the fate of the UK and the EU has been changed. Afraid of Brussels taking away British sovereignty, they opted to leave the EU. The immediate consequences were a big drop in the British economy, uncertainty about the actions in the rest of the country and uncertainty about the leadership of the whole UK.

GHOSTBUSTERS 32 years after the original movie, the remake of the beloved franchise is here with an all new cast, made up entirely of women. She eventually falls in love with him, but she discovers a big secret about him, he’s a vampire. From thereon she lives in a vampire filled world. The vampire diaries is one of our favourite series. Every episode is different from the one before and every season has a surprising ending. The actors of the vampire diaries are amazing and all actors have outstanding performances and great expressions, for example, Ian Somerhalder who plays Damon aka the bad guy. RATING: 5/5
PRETTY LITTLE LIARS
Pretty Little Liars is a serie which first aired on 8 June 2010. This serie is about five teenage girls Allison, Aria, Hanna, Emily & Spencer) who live their lives keeping a lot of secrets.
All these secrets started when they received a mysterious text message from a character called A at Alisson's funeral. At that time they didn't realise that this wasn't the last text message that they would receive and that these messages were going to control their lives. Pretty little liars consists at the moment out of 6 seasons and the 7th season will air soon. The first 5 seasons are very exciting and nerve-wracking. Every episode is different from the one before in the first five seasons, this is not the case in season 6. there is nothing new in it and it just feels like everything starts over again which was very disappointing. Overall pretty little liars is a super fun series to watch. It is that typical serie which you cannot stop watching after you started, but eventually this changes and it gets boring. RATING 3/5
THE WALKING DEAD
The walking dead is a American about a police officer named Rick (Andrew Lincoln) who had a terrible accident, (when the days were still normal), and eventually has to stay in the hospital. After a few moths he awakes from a coma. Rick is really confused because the hospital is empty and there are dead bodies everywhere. Rick decides to go to his house, back to his wife Lori and his son Carl (Chandler Riggs). When Rick arrives at his house, his wife and son are gone and he passes out. A guy named Morgan took Rick with him to his house where he lives with his son Duane. The walking dead is an American television serie based on a group of people who are trying to survive during a zombie apocalypse. The serie is very nice, the special effects, especially with the zombie make-up, are very realistic. The whole serie doesn't look 'fake'. Every episode is different from the one before and it doesn't get boring at all. I would really recommend this serie. RATING: 5/5

Jane the Virgin Review By Janine & Nicol, V3at
Mother-daughter relationships
Jane lives together with her mother Xiomara and her grandmother Alba in a small apartment as all three women struggle to balance their lives.
Rogelio De La Vega
Without giving away too many plot points, telenovela star Rogelio De La Vega becomes a major part of Jane’s life at the exact moment that everything else is changing. But it’s not all drama with Rogelio; in fact, his comedic timing and outlandish comments are his best attribute.
Jane, a hardworking young Latina gets accidentally artificially inseminated… Jane the virgin is a romantic comedy-drama telenovela. The story is about a girl called Jane Villanueva, a religious young Latina, who becomes pregnant by mistake. Even though Jane’s pregnant, she’s going to keep the promise she made to her grandmother when she was a little girl and save herself until she’s married. Jane has just met her father, who is trying really hard to support and love his only child (that he knows about). Like any excellent telenovela, there is a love triangle with Jane’s fiancé and the father of her unborn child. Really, it’s just a family show about three generations of women living under the same roof and dealing with everyday issues together.
The Latin Lover narrator The narrator is one of the most recognizable characters, but you never see his face. Instead, he throws in reminders, jokes and sarcastic remarks. He also embodies a combination of all-knowing presence and obsessed fan, just like the rest of us.
Jane, Rafael & Michael
Love triangles are staple in every good TV show, but few are created because of a semen sample being given to the wrong patient.
The Big Bad
A pregnant virgin would probably would be enough to carry a TV show, but Jane the Virgin goes above and beyond to keep the storylines going. There’s murder, kidnapping, bullying, affairs and financial ruin. You know, a regular day!
The hot-button issues
Jane the Virgin has covered all the topics: abortion, immigration, sexuality, race, religion and mental health. It’s almost impossible to believe that a show can so gracefully cover important issues like these.
The captioning
As if the narrator wasn’t enough, Jane the Virgin also employs captions for additional jokes and explanations. Captions keep track of everything from time to Jane’s writing progress to which characters are actually alive.
Family problems
In Jane the Virgin there are a lot of problems going on. Even though, Rafaels family seems very happy, they are facing a lot of family issues. For Example: Rafaels stepmother is secretly having an affair with his sister. SEVENTH ISSUE

Sweet, funny, charming and with the best narrator ever. It’s a fun show, and the story is a nice sarcastic telenovela. Jane the virgin is a must watch! Janine
‘This award is so much more than myself. It represents a culture that wants to see themselves as heroes. My father used to tell me to say every morning, ‘Today is going to be a great day. I can and I will.’ Well, Dad, today is going to be a great day. I can and I did. ‘
Jane the virgin is truly an amazing and funny show that leaves you wanting more. The script is amazingly funny and narrator is awesome! Nicol The series finds just the right balance, creating a unique place for itself among the current network fare. With its down-to-earth lead characters and self-aware, but not self-parodying approach, Jane the Virgin is a breath of fresh air that will hopefully find a strong and loyal fan base. And That makes Four….
By Vjosa, V4at
Last year I wrote a rather lengthy article on my experiences with Bilingual Education, as some readers might know. It mainly described what we as TTO Test Animals did during the first three years, and how I personally felt about it all; an “insider’s perspective”, if you will. (Note that we are not actually some shady organisation, despite my way of wording it. Really.) Now, I am almost done with my fourth year of doing Bilingual Education, and I thought I should write an article about what it is like doing TTO in the upper levels since we happen to be the very first generation doing this at our school. We are basically willing test subjects, wanting to be experimented upon. In a positive way. I swear. All silliness aside; dear readers, let me tell you about all about TTO 4. I am assuming that by now, people would know what TTO is and does, but I will be so kind as to provide some more insight into this unique path we have chosen to take. Bilingual Education is basically just what it says; we get taught in both English and Dutch. The first few years, most subjects are given in English and we are taught the language in a very natural way. We listen and read, we speak and write.
It is honestly the only way languages should be taught to people, and also the reason why it is as successful as it is, as evidenced by the impressive fact that we all passed the FCE last year. Students that have been doing TTO for just a year or two have a great English vocabulary and are able to effectively communicate with people in countries thousands of miles away. And when it comes to discussing and debating about more complicated affairs that concern the wider world, we’re basically pros. The way it all works is very different from say, French or German classes. I have quite some criticism on the way languages are taught at high schools all around the world, and frankly, I could probably write an essay about that topic alone: There is an actual reason why most pupils will struggle to speak any foreign language even after several years of this artificial way of being taught a language. I do not like all those lists of words or sentences that students have to memorise. It does not feel right to learn a language like that. Language, to me, feels so much more fluid than that, it is something you have to experience. And this is exactly why I find bilingual education brilliant. But that is just my take on it all, of course.

- 13 -
If there is one thing I am convinced of, though, it is that since its’ introduction in 2012, I have come to realise that it is truly fruitful and rewarding to go the extra mile and choose this kind of education, as you will end up with a lot of valuable experiences and a better understanding of international issues and the world around you. It makes me proud, honestly, when people at our age can discuss serious and important things with pupils our age from other countries. Despite what the media says, I reckon we are not a generation to be made fun of at all. This year proved to be no different in that great aspect, despite the fact that it was a remarkably different year when compared to what we were used to. There are two very noticeable differences. For starters, a lot more subjects that were previously given in English, are now taught in Dutch. I cannot say that I did not find it weird to hear teachers suddenly speak Dutch to me, my ears being used to the English language at this point. Yes, it was weird. Yes, we had to get used to it. No, it is definitely not impossible or disastrous. Sure, it might be slightly challenging in the beginning as we needed to re-learn some phrases and important words. But the thing about us who decide to choose TTO is that we can do it. We are typically those kinds of people that are fascinated by challenges; we actively seek out things that are more difficult. We are a pretty determined and strong-willed bunch, really. And trust me, if you managed to learn to talk about politics in English, your not-so-native tongue, you sure as heck can get through the first few months of getting used to Dutch. So do not worry. Keep in mind that my experiences with language will obviously differ greatly from other students’, because I take the less word-heavy science classes, instead of things like geography or history. But I have not really heard of any people in my class having difficulties with the language change after the first few months had passed. I honestly believe anyone can do anything if they really try. Still, I personally would have loved to have all those subjects in English, in all honesty. But because of the national testing system and such things, this is impossible right now. I hope that this will be changed into something that works even better, for future generations.
Besides the language switch, there is another thing that might strike you as weird. The thing is that bilingual classes tend to be close, but slightly isolated from the regular Dutch pupils. This is because we always did (and sometimes still do) special TTO activities, whilst the Dutch students do something. This means that we are not as close to them, although I would not consider this such a great issue. You will have to share classes with the regular pupils and will get used to working with them soon enough. (That is, if they have gotten past their bitter jealousy of not doing half the fun stuff we do.)Those two things are probably the two most drastic changes, but it really is not such a big deal. Enough about all that- what TTO-related things did we actually do this year? One of the most important things we did this year is taking the IGSCE History Exam. Oh boy. Leading up to the test, we had history lessons once a week to prepare us for this fear-inducing exam. I had often seen British teenagers moan about the GSCEs on social media like Twitter, and I was slightly stressed. The thing is, we happened to be unlucky and had two of the three test ‘papers’ in the first also-feared SE week. But alas, I passed the test and got the highly valued certificate. Speaking of history, I really enjoyed the way it was taught to us bilingual students. In the second and third years, we focused on the 20th century, and I truly appreciate having learnt about Europe’s contemporary history. It is only by learning from the mistakes of past leaders and influential people and studying successful individuals that we can begin to understand political and international relationships. Learning about Europe’s history, especially about its’ past with problematic leaders and dictators certainly adds another ‘layer’ of knowledge. I also remember often discussing not only things of the past, but things that were happening now. It allowed us to form our own opinions about issues, and draw parallels by comparing the current state of affairs to what we had learnt about the past. I think that not many people realise when something big or important happens, but the fact remains that what happens now will one day also be taught to kids in history classes.

Which is why I think learning about the (contemporary) history of Europe gives you yet another perspective, and continues to sharpen the image of the world we have, revealing even more details hidden in the grand picture. We start noticing even more and understanding even more, having been provided with historical context. So here’s a shout to our class’ great history teacher: Mr Zijlstra, your lessons were always incredibly impressive and thought-provoking, so thank you very much! As for new subjects, we have started doing something called pre-IB (International Baccalaureate) with Ms Romano. We bilingual students take part in an IB-programme, the English Language and Literature programme, in which we focus on topics like how language is used in mass media and literary analyses. For IB we will have to read several well-known classics and we have already started learning how to analyse texts ourselves. For this, things like understanding the social and cultural context of the time and place the book was written in is a very important thing, as we will need to question how this book treats concepts and how the author portrays marginalised or oppressed groups like people of colour or women. One thing I really liked doing was watching Michael Moore’s Bowling for Columbine as it was about American society and the controversial gun debate, both being topics that have piqued my interest for quite some while now, being involved in US-centric online communities. Anyhow, it looks like a very promising, but definitely challenging programme. Last school year we learnt all about literary devices and the such, so I am excited to be thoroughly analysing these famous works of literature and see exactly how the author used metaphors and symbolism to make their text interesting and meaningful. Maybe I can even improve my own writing skills as well. V4AT also started doing Global Perspectives. It is a very special subject that only bilingual students do (and as bilingual students, we do not have to do a profielwerkstuk!), and we typically learn very helpful skills like handling information, finding all types of sources, breaking down larger problems and issues and looking at topics with different perspectives in mind, Mr Lipsch helping us with it all. We basically learn how to deal with our rapidly fast-changing world and to actively think about
solutions for very real problems. It is truly a very TTO-y subject, as we talk about things like globalisation and all the pros and cons of it. I would not really be the right person to talk about GP either, though, as whilst we have been dealing with essay writing and sources, we have not done half the things HAVO 4 have done for GP. Next year, I will probably be able to tell more about our progress concerning this exclusive subject. In addition to all those things, we have also done the following TTO-related activities: We once again joined the incredibly interesting TIME project, this time discussing very important and actual topics such as the conflict in Syria, the refugee crisis of Europe and the terror risk from groups like the IS. The fact that we can all discuss things like these in a language that some of us might not have spoken at all just four years ago continues to amaze me, and proves what I said about TTO being good at debating. I also love the idea of being involved in larger things, as we are the ones who are going to have to deal with bigger issues later on, and will have to learn good discussion skills. I think it is one of the best things about TTO- we are involved in this world, we are actively thinking citizens of not only Europe, but the whole wide world. It is definitely a positive thing to be aware of and face reality and problems head-on. As preparation for the TIME project, we also had a guest speaker come to our school. He told us his story of how he fled from Afghanistan, a country worn out by war. This man named Walidjan Mohammadi gave us the personal insight to the refugee crisis. He talked about the hardships of fleeing, and how the battle is not really over, even when you have arrived in a safer country. Mohammadi told us just how much you have to strive to shape your future when having fled your county, your culture and language having been left behind. Hearing about this man’s experiences probably made many of us realise how cold most people react to hearing about other people suffering, since they feel ‘far away’ and ‘detached’. For some, refugees are just statistics. This man served as a reminder that really should not be needed: all those numbers are real humans, too. And we should not forget that.
SEVENTH ISSUE
- 15 -
On a lighter note, we also had another very different guest visit our school to give a talk about his job. This man, Jos Hupperetz, worked for the EU. The EU is a really important thing to us bilingual students, with EIO and all. As I have actually already written about this talk, I will not bother going into much more detail, but I will just repeat the conclusion of the article I wrote at that time: I found it to be an extremely engaging lesson, and I personally think it helped us broaden our horizons even further, getting an even clearer picture of the world around us. On top of that, we practiced working together and communicating with each other, being able to defend our own standpoints whilst still being open-minded and listening to others. We learnt being open to suggestions and trying to come to agreements that are satisfactory for all parties involved. All in all, it was insightful and utmost enjoyable. It definitely was. For the National Language Day, some other students and I were asked to go give a special TTO lesson (in English) at a primary school for a day, as this has almost become tradition to us TTO classes. Naturally, I agreed to give a lesson since I had decided to be a tutor this year anyway, and I figured it would be fun to try and tell these kids how great the bilingual programme is. I was joined by the lovely Esra from H4AT and I think we did pretty well. We actually got compliments from the teacher at that primary school, so I was pleased.
And last but not least, a group of enthusiastic students (myself included) organised this year’s Halloween party! It was a bunch of fun, getting to plan and buy everything. We were doing a game inside and outside, and with about ten students we were in charge of organising the inside part of the game. I remember drawing how I wanted all the six classrooms to look, and being very pleasantly surprised when our team managed to bring the drawings to life. It was a really great party. This would about sum it all up. All in all, TTO is still in its’ baby years, having just gotten the Junior Certificate. And whilst we might have been looked at in a weird way in the first year when people heard us speak English, it seems that the school is now starting to get comfortable with the bilingual course. And when next year my fellow students from H4AT will graduate as first bilingual students from this school to do so, I will definitely be extremely proud of them. It is really amusing to see my younger brother deal with all the stuff we had to deal with when we had just started out as first years. It sure brings back some fond memories, after all. We are probably the most fortunate guinea pigs of them all. Anyway, I want to thank everyone from the bilingual department (especially our kind mentor, Ms Romano) for yet another cool year. Here’s to another two great years!
We were also visited by the great Di Li, a Vietnamese author that came to talk about literature and gave her opinions on the way literature classes are in Vietnam. We had read an excerpt from her book before her visit, and discussed some things that seemed peculiar to us because of the cultural differences. Di Li was really nice, and I definitely enjoyed meeting someone from the other side of the globe.

Living on the Edge Psychology of Extreme Sports
By Ivy, V3at
You’ve probably seen the term ‘extreme sports on television’, in a magazine or heard about it on the news. The term is becoming more and more common because Extreme sports are gaining popularity. But first, what exactly are extreme sports? Extreme sports represent examples of acts that go against our human instincts, which are especially designed to protect us from danger. In this article I will look at what drives extreme sport athletes towards high risk of invalidity or early death.
‘‘Extreme sports’ are those that have a high level of perceived risk, not necessarily a high level of actual risk.’’ The definition of extreme sports is not very clear, but in general, extreme sports are sports that are associated with a thrill that is felt by the paricipant. Extreme sports are adrenaline-packed, dangerous and shock full of stunts. Extreme sports are nontraditional sports. They have been associated with anti-establishment and rejecting authority; recently, however, the anti-establishment is no longer required and respect for authority is completely acceptable.
SEVENTH ISSUE
- 18 -
“I really don't like the term 'extreme sports.' I prefer to use the term 'adventure sports,' because every time I do my sports I’m going on a cool adventure.” But what drives extreme sporters to live on the edge and practise these risky sports? The main reason why people practise extreme sports is the satisfaction they get out of challenging themselves. Many people might think that money, fame and an inflated ego is what drives extreme sporters. But the truth is that neither money, fame or an inflated ego can compare with the rush of adrenaline and the feeling of happiness while succeeding in in practising an extreme sport. Besides being challenged physically, extreme sports are also very mentally demanding, in other words they are able to withstand the pain and/or suffering and perform no matter how brutal the circumstances are.
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going” At the moment, Base-jumping alone causes 25 deaths per year. But my question is: Is the drive to constantly want to perform caused by marketing, tv and us? We have all watched the x-games once or we’ve seen an advert on tv by red-bull. Most people consider it as ‘impressive’ or ‘insane’ but they keep on watching the ‘insane’ extreme sports and the athletes will get sponsored once they get famous. Sponsors want their athletes to perform constantly – even when they are insured- they have to keep on training and keep on pushing their selves to the limit. Not only the limit of what their bodies can handle but also what their minds can handle. When they can’t perform, sponsors will stop supporting their athletes and they’ll have to go back to their ‘boring’ life. Always trying to push your own boundaries may feel good but after some time it will cost you your body and it may even cost your mind.
I would like to end the article with the BMX legend Dave Mirra, who struggled with deep depression. Dave Mirra was struggling with emotionally issues for years before he committed suicide at the age of 41. He was considered a BMX legend and one of the most decorated BMX riders of all time, but he told the magazine that his competitive background had been a part of his problems, as it put a large amount of pressure on him. I believe that we put too much pressure on extreme sport athletes without even knowing. You may think you are just yelling to support your favourite athlete but because of your yelling the athlete will put a huge amount of pressure on him/her self, it may even make them feel insecure. But it is the psychology of extreme sports.
‘’I do get sad. I get sad for stupid things, like reading the news about things that go on in the world, I don’t like hearing about pain and suffering, especially, like, kids and poor people. That makes me sad. I think I feel things deeply.”

Bryan Smeets: The Living Legend By Job, Youri & Luc, V3at
They did and they began to play better. Bryan got some concurrency for his place in the squad and he lost it a few times but in the end of the season he began to play again and scored very important goals. They were even more important for other teams than for De Graafschap.
MATCH DAY
Although he is not mentioned as much as Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, Bryan Smeets is a local hero to the fans of De Graafschap. PSV fans might also be quite pleased by the performances of the Limburgian midfielder. He had a big influence on the championship title in the Netherlands.
HISTORY Bryan Smeets is currently playing for De Graafschap in Doetinchem. He was born in Maastricht, that is also where he started to play football. He started his career at RKVVL Polaris, after that he went to Leonidas and Jekerdal both clubs are in Maasticht. Bryan wasn’t just a normal player everyone saw that he was talented, so did MVV Maastricht. MVV asked Bryan if he wanted to join some training sessions, to see if he was good enough to get into the youth academy of MVV. Indeed little Bryan was good enough and he joined MVV. He continued playing and became even better and better. He was one of the best players of the academy and that soon lead to him playing for the first team of MVV in the Jupiler League. He was a good player and the fans liked him because Bryan was a player from the own academy. He played a lot of games, and he was even selected for the Dutch squad for under 17. In the summer of 2015 Bryan got promoted from the Jupiler League to the Eredivisie, De Graafschap. De Graafschap didn’t have the best start in the season but Bryan was always in the first squad. The coach of De Graafschap always said the boys have to learn some things and have to improve.
On 8 May 2016 the match between De Graafschap and Ajax was on the program. This match was very important for the champions’ title within the Eredivisie. Ajax needed to win the match as PSV already had al lead in their match against PEC Zwolle. Ajax started off well by scoring the 1-0, this goal was provided by Younes after a fantastic rush past the defence of De Graafschap. The match remained in the advantage of Ajax until minute 55 when the midfielder of De Graafschap (Bryan Smeets) made a fantastic run past the defence of Ajax and put in the equalizer for De Graafschap. It remained 1-1 until the end of the match, ruining the championship for Ajax as PSV won their match against PEC Zwolle. After the match the Limburgian midfielder was very simplistic about his goal against Ajax. “I did what I had to do, I feel great about scoring this goal and it is of course a special one as we were able to knock Ajax of the first spot with this goal.” Later on this week, Bryan will be playing his old club; MVV. “I look forward to play against my old team; it still remains special to play against the club you grew up with.” We asked him if he would celebrate if he scored against MVV. He said the following: “If I score, of course I will celebrate when I score. A lot of players wouldn’t do that out of respect, but I think differently about that.”
BAD INFLUENCE
His goal also had a negative influence on his personal live. After his match against Ajax the midfielder of De Graafschap received several death threats and hate letters from Ajax fans as they were furious about the goal of Smeets as it had ruined their championship plans. Bryan Smeets had an interview on his program together with the interviewers from L1. This meeting between the “Legend” and the reporters was cancelled on the request of Bryan Smeets himself. He did this to protect himself as well as his family.
SEVENTH ISSUE
- 20 -
He cancelled the meeting because he was afraid that actually something might happen while he would be on his way to L1. As seen, Bryan Smeets took these threats very seriously and would not appear in front of the camera or reporters to talk about his ‘un-human’ treatment after the game by the Ajax fans. He only announced that in his opinion, this treatment did not belong in the beautiful game of football as well as outside the pitch.
TRANSFER SCHEME
De Graafschap already declared at the beginning of the season that they would not invest much in new players in the summer period. After Smeets’ goal against Ajax there have been some rumours that he might leave De Graafschap during the summer break. Although he has still a long lasting contract at the De Graafschap, other bigger clubs within the Eredivisie showed great interest in the strong midfielder. Clubs as Heerenveen and Fc Groningen would be willing to contract the strong midfielder as the right price for him could be met with his employer. Bryan Smeets also had his say about the rumours. He said that he was planning on staying at De Graafschap. But he said that he could also leave if the interest and opportunities at the new club were high. De Graafschap became 17th in the Eredivisie (highest level in the Netherlands) after the draw against Ajax which was seen as a victory. De Graafschap could not enjoy this result very long because the 17th place, means Playoffs. In the play-offs are three rounds of two matches, every round is a return between the same teams. Included in the play-offs are some teams from the secondary league of the Netherlands (the Jupiler League) who did a great job in the last season and the number 17 and 18 of the Eredivisie. The concerning Eredivisie teams need to start in the second round. When MVV won the first round, Bryan Smeets with de Graafschap, knew what he had to do against his previous club.
QUALIFICATION
On 13 May, Bryan Smeets, “the living legend”, did it again. The first confrontation between de Graafschap and MVV was to be played in Maastricht. MVV was playing a very good match, and dominated de Graafschap on all fronts, but suddenly no one of the MVV defenders was able to avoid their old teammate from scoring the 0-1 ten minutes before the end. The match ended in 01 and MVV knew that it was going to be difficult in Doetinchem. When Bryan was still playing for MVV he had a very good relation with the supporters, he was born in Maastricht and knew everyone. Now he scored the winning goal for de Graafschap, his reputation in Maastricht went from HERO to ZERO.In an interview after the match, Bryan was angry about the fact that some of the MVV fans hated him now. He said “MVV is in my heart, in Maastricht my career started. First I could not break, and now I am simply their enemy. I am also just doing my job just as anyone else.” In the return in Doetinchem, Bryan Smeets again played an important role. He gave an assist, leading to the 1-1 for de Graafschap. In the end Bryan with his team won the match with 2-1, and a small party could be held. This result meant that de Superboeren came one step closer towards another year Eredivisie.

Six Must Play Vacation Games By Calvin, Daniel & Patrick, V3AT
At the beginning, building up an army is difficult as you have to evolve several times, but if you have grown the larvae, you can multiply really fast. Finally, there is the Protoss. The Protoss is the most technological developed race there is. Their weapons are very strong and last the longest. Everything can be built very fast, so you can produce a lot in a short time.
Finally, you can enjoy your well-deserved summer vacation, the best time of the whole school year. You will have more than 6 weeks to relax and do things you like. But, what if you have nothing you like to do anymore? Well, we have the solution. Here are 6 games you can play in your summer vacation and after. Enjoy!
Starcraft
Starcraft is a strategic real-time game in which can you play on different planets in the Starcraft universe with different races. To win the game you have to build up a base and an army and try to destroy your enemy’s base. You can choose between three races; the Terran, Zerg and Protoss race. The Terrans are a future version of humans who live are exiled in outer space and are conquering the universe. Their buildings and structures are very adaptive to the environment. Because of this, they can, unlike other races build anywhere on the planet. If you have to move because you are attacked, you can just lift your whole base and find a safer place. I think Terran is an easy way to start playing Starcraft because you can easily make troops and build up your army. The Zerg race works completely different. They don’t build any structures, but can evolve to anything you want by hyper-evolution. You start with a base and three larvae.
If you want to play Protoss, you have to keep in mind that all these technological advances cost a lot, so don’t play in quantity, but in quality. Starcraft can be bought on the official site. You can choose between 3 parts: Wings of Liberty, Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. Prices differ as the three parts were released at another time.
Shellshock live
Shellshock is 2D multiplayer shooting game in which you play real time with your friends. You play it in your browser, so there is very less memory needed to save the game. The goal is to shoot your opponent’s tank that is in front of you. The more friends are playing with, the more difficult it will be as you will have more opponents. As you are gaining XP, you can buy new and better weapons. Over 200 weapons can be upgraded to powerful ones. Shellshock has 100 levels, so probably you this will fill up a whole summer vacation without boredom. Many people have recommended it to me and that’s why I’ve bought this game. Shellshock can be played on almost every computer, which is an advantage for the ones who don’t have a game computer but still want to play a game. I really recommend this game because you can play with your friends and it’s only 80 MB. If you have a Steam account, you can buy Shellshock with a discount of 35%, so it’s only €4, 50!

Company of Heroes 2
Overwatch
Company of Heroes 2 is an online World War 2 strategy game. You have the option to play from 1V1 up to 4V4. This game forces you to manage your troops on the field. Company is a very skill based game as there are lots of things to take account of and you need to be very strategic in order to win. This game is all out World War II warfare with tanks planes and infantry at your command. This game is about outplaying your opponent and it is very satisfying when a battle goes your way or if you win the match altogether.
Overwatch is a fast paced game that is a mix between a first person shooter and a moba made by Blizzard and is their first first-person shooter. It has already sold 11 million copies in its first week. Blizzard will keep adding content for a very long time, all for free. This new content will include new characters and maps and a new competitive game mode. This game costs 40 euros on the official blizzard website. There are lots of different characters called heroes with unique abilities.
You’ve got 5 factions. The Soviets, the Wehrmacht which is the German army in the eastern front the Oberkommando West. Then there are also the British and the U.S. The game uses mechanics such as retreating. You need your troops to stay alive and when things get messy you can retreat. Cover is also a very important part of the game. This will block damage and increase the unit’s effectiveness. Territory is a big part of the game. Territory gives you resources enabling you to send more units in the battlefield. This is very different from other strategy games as this gives you a real feeling of a frontline. And is more strategic than any other game I know. It is very much fun to play on your own but of course a lot more fun to play with your friends. I recommend this game to anyone who likes strategy games because in my opinion it is one of the best ones.
You’ve got offensive, defensive, tank and support heroes, which all have 3 regular abilities excluding perks. And all have one ultimate ability which can heavily support you and your team mates or deal massive amounts of damage if used properly. All kinds of heroes and their abilities are necessary to be able to win. There are also heroes which counter other heroes therefore making it a good strategy to switch heroes. Overwatch features 3 game modes. One where the attackers have to attack two places while the defenders are defending them. Within the time limit. Another one is with a payload which moves when you stand on it. This has to be taken to the enemy base in order to win also within the time limit. When you are running out of time while you are standing on the objective, overtime is initiated. Overtime will last as long as you keep standing on the objective. These game modes can get really intense with insane comebacks because of the overtime. I recommend this game for both competitive and casual gamers as you don’t need to be good at this game in order to have fun. You’ve got 21 different characters at the moment with all complete unique abilities and play styles. There is a bit for everyone in this game.

Total War Warhammer
Pokémon Sun and Moon
Total War Warhammer, one of the most anticipated strategy games of the year created by Creative Assembly was released 24-05-2016. Like all Total War games it exists out of a huge turnbased campaign and stunning real-time battles. In this Total War title you get to conquer the Old World, filled with bloodthirsty ogres, undead vampires, dreadful chaos warriors and much more.
Finally, after years Pokémon will be releasing a new pair of games: Pokémon Sun and Moon. Fans from all over the world are getting hyped as these new titles are approaching. These new games will be released on 18-11-2016 with new Pokémon, a new region to explore and a new adventure.
Total War Warhammer is like all Total War games PC exclusive. Much has changed since the last Total War game (Total War Attila). The new magic system, huge monstrous creatures and air units make Total War Warhammer unique and way more advanced than previous titles. Another feature that makes this game stand out is the legendary lords of each faction, all with their own quest battles and more. At the moment there is one DLC: the Chaos Warriors race pack. If you pre ordered the game or bought it within the first week of release, you got it for free. Over time more DLC’s will be created which will most likely contain a bigger map and more races to play as.
Like most pairs of Pokémon games, they will most likely be parallel, each with exclusive Pokémon/items etc. but both with the same story line. Most Pokémon games come in pairs, so it would make sense if this will be the same. Fans are expecting much for these games not only because they will introduce a complete new generation of Pokémon, but also because this year Pokémon has existed for 20 years. There have been many special events this year, but these new titles could make it complete. I have been playing Pokémon longer than I can even remember and even now it is still one of my favourite game franchises of all time. I am certainly looking forward to the release of these Pokémon games. Hopefully it will be a success.
Personally I really love this game! I’ve been waiting for this for a long time. If you like strategy games, I would without doubt recommend it.

Together the main goal is to survive the ever-increasing zombie outbreaks. The producers of state of decay 1 and 2 worked together on the second edition of the game with Microsoft studios, and told at the E3 presentation that they were thrilled about their new game. The developers worked hard on developing the game and were relieved when they were finally be able to talk about it, as they said ‘’it was hard for us not to tell our fans about the development of a state of decay 2, since we are so directly connected with them’’. The game has an even bigger map then state of decay 1 and has a much better quality and a unique storyline. You can proceed with the choices you made in state of decay 1. If you like an open game with co-op you might like this game and pre-order it.
FORZA HORIZON 3 Forza Horizon 3 was also officially announced at the E3 conference of Xbox. An intro for the game had already leaked to a Chinese website prior to the event, but until the official announcement nobody knew for sure whether this was fake or not. Thousands of fans started screaming when it became clear that Forza Horizon 3 now officially has been announced and will come out on the twenty-seventh of September 2016. The base game will include more than 350 cars with a lot of variety, from supercars to normal street cars to beachbuggies. It has something for everybody, it takes place in the beautiful country Australia with its huge amounts of roads, the deep jungles and even the amazing beaches. The map is said to be twice as big as the map of Forza Horizon 2. You will be able to see all of it in full HD or even 4K. Forza Horizon 3 is also the first game in the series to also come to pc with the so called: ‘play anywhere’ feature. Buy it once and you will be able to not only play it on Xbox but also on pc. Microsoft and Turn 10 (the developers of the game) have also announced that the complete campaign of Forza Horizon 3 will be playable with 3 other friends. A demo of the game was also playable at E3, many who played the demo said it was great. If you are the type of gamer that likes arcade racers with a great open map and with fantastic graphics, then you might like to keep an eye on Forza Horizon 3.

XBOX S/ SCORPION
Something that was also very surprising, is that Microsoft announced two new gaming consoles. The Xbox one S and the Scorpio. The Xbox one S is 40% smaller than the normal Xbox one and even has the power brick stored inside of it. It will be able to show ultra HD videos, for example on Netflix, and I twill have HDR (High Dynamic Range), which basically means that the console will be able to bring more colours to your screen, which are more accurate. Think of all the times you were watching a movie with a very dark scene, with HDR the colour banding you see in scenes like that is virtually gone. This console will release really soon starting at $299. The Scorpio on the other hand will beat every single console on the market including the Xbox one S.
This amazing console will not only be able to play videos on 4k, I twill even play games on 4k. This monstrosity of a console will have eight CPU cores, 320 GB/s memory bandwidth and a stunning six teraflops of GPU power. Microsoft really went allout with this console and gave it as much as possible. This console will release next year in the holidays. The price is currently unknown. Not to forget, Microsoft also announced a new feature called ‘play anywhere’. This means that you will be able to play any game you buy for either Xbox one, Xbox one S, Scorpio or windows 10 on any of the platforms, which include this feature. You will even still be able to use all your Xbox one accessories. The Xbox live gold system will also be cross-play. The dashboards of the Xbox One and Scorpio are also very likely to be the same as the Xbox one.

Wulingyuan Scenic Area: Zhangjiajie, China
a series of terraced basins. At the end of the 2nd century B.C. the dynasty of the Attalids, the kings of Pergamon, established the thermal spa of Hierapolis. The ruins of the baths, temples and other Greek monuments can be seen at the site.
Socotra, Yemen
‘Scenic’ might be an understatement in this case. This enormous attraction contains thousands of sandstone pillars, nature's version of skyscrapers with several pillars stretching even taller than the Empire State Building's midpoint. This spectacular area stretches over more than 26,000 hectares in China's Hunan Province. Its site dominates more than 3,000 narrow sandstone pillars and peaks, with many over 200 meters high. Between the peaks lie ravines and gorges with streams, pools and waterfalls, some 40 caves, and two large natural bridges. In addition to the striking beauty of the landscape, the region is also noted for the fact that it is home to a number of threatened plant and animal species.
Pamukkale: Denizli, Turkey
Socotra kind of looks like it was transported to Earth from a distant planet. The UFO-like dragon's blood trees are the island's most notable feature. Isolated Socotra, 220 miles from mainland Yemen, is home to a display of strange plants and animals uniquely adapted to the hot, harsh, windswept island. Socotra island is one of few places in the world where people live in harmony with nature, so rarely found in our modernized world. Tourism on Socotra is still developing. Tours are arranged on Socotra Archipelago in cooperation with the local socotrian guides having many years' experience with tourists from various countries. They are highly professional and can show you the most attractive places of the island, tell about its nature, language and culture, as well as organize diving, trekking or other special programs.
Arashiyama: Kyoto, Japan Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in south western Turkey. The city contains hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. It is located in Turkey's Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley, which has a temperate climate for most of the year. The stacked pools in Pamukkale are usually surrounded by snow and frozen waterfalls, but the blue waters are hot and open to bathers. You'll never be satisfied with your hotel's infinity pool again. For the people who want to visit a historial as well as a beautiful place, is the Turkish Pamukkale a great option. The Pamukkale, deriving from springs in a cliff almost 200 m high overlooking the plain, calcite-laden waters have created a Cotton Palace, an unreal landscape, made up of mineral forests, petrified waterfalls and
The serene beauty of the bamboo forest in the Arashiyama district is a wonderful site to behold. No wonder it's one of Pinterest's most beloved places. Arashiyama is the second-most important sightseeing district in Kyoto. It’s filled with temples and shrines, but the star attraction is the famed Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. Arashiyama is in the far west of Kyoto, tucked along the base of the Arashiyama Mountains (meaning “Storm Mountains”).

The vibrant villages of Italy’s Cinque Terre
Set amid some of the most dramatic coastal scenery on the planet. Five very beautiful, vividly colored villages located on cliffs overlooking the sea. Walking trails passing through the landscape with beautiful nature and breath-taking scenery. Plenty of small beaches that fit every taste, including wild and secluded ones. Along a beautifully isolated sixmile stretch of the most seductive corner of the northern Italian coast lies the Cinque Terre (CHINK-weh TAY-reh) — five (cinque) small towns gently and steadily carving a good life out of difficult terrain. Each village fills a ravine with a lazy hive of human activity — tough-skinned locals and sunburned travellers enjoying the area's unique mix of Italian culture and nature. With a traffic-free charm — a happy result of their natural isolation — these towns are the rugged alternative to the glitzy Riviera resorts nearby. There's not a Fiat or museum in sight — just sun, sea, sand (well, pebbles), wine, and pure, unadulterated Italy. Enjoy the villages, swimming, hiking, and evening romance of one of God's great gifts to tourism. While the Cinque Terre is now discovered (and can be unpleasantly crowded midday, when tourist boats and cruise-ship excursions drop by), tourists look at their happiest when they visit this charming town.
Grand Prismatic Spring: Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
As its name suggests, the largest hot spring in the United States – and the third largest in the world – is essentially a rainbow ring of vibrant colours.
Grand Prismatic Spring, located in Midway Geyser Basin, makes the earliest described thermal feature in Yellowstone that is definitely identifiable. It measures approximately 112.8 m in diameter and is over 37 m deep. The vivid colours in the spring are the result of pigmented archaea that grow around the edges of the mineral-rich water. The archaea produce colours ranging from green to red; the amount of colour depends on the temperature of the water which favours one archaea over another. In the summer, the spring tends to be orange and red, whereas in the winter it is usually dark green. The centre of the pool is sterile due to extreme heat. The deep blue colour of the water in the centre of the pool results from the scattering of blue light by particles suspended in the water. That is of course all very interesting, but another reason why we put this spot on the list is because of the appearance. The bright blue lake surrounded by, what looks like a, rainbow. Definitely worth a visit!
Cave in Algarve, Portugal
This cave is considered to be one of the most romantic places. The beautiful cave can only be reached by water, but that definitely does not take away its beauty. The cave is located on the Algarve beach, which is very popular and there is lots to do like dolphin spotting, laying sandy beaches, visiting Roman ruins and nature reserves. This is surely a must-go place! Algar de Benagil is one of the most widespread locals when the subject is the Algarve beaches, including the international press. To make it more adventurous, you can rent a kayak instead of going by boat. We think that this romantic and beautiful is an excellent way to enclose this list. You have now reached the end of this article. We hope you enjoyed reading and exploring about these places as much as we did writing this, and maybe influenced your travel bucket list a bit. So if you ever get the chance to visit these beautiful places, we would love to hear your story.

If the Shoe Fits By Kayleigh, Floor & Anne C, V3at
Shoes. Everyone wears them. Shoes can make you different or unique. Shoes can define you or set a statement. There are a wide variety of different types of shoes. Most types of shoes are designed for specific activities. High-heeled footwear, for example, is worn by women for formal occasions. Pointe shoes are designed for ballet dancing. So shoes can mean a lot to many people and that’s why we wrote this article.
THE HISTORY OF SHOES The first drawing of humans with shoes is found in a Spanish cave and is 15000 years old. The people only wear animal skins/furs wrapped around their feet, which were in that time seen as proper shoes. Evidence of people wearing shoes a long time ago is also found. A body of a well preserved ice man wore leather food coverings stuffed with straw, who was nearly 5000 year old! So this indicates that people wore already shoes a long time ago, but not as much as we wear right now. Though in fact we still wear sandals, which is the oldest shoe ever known to us. Actually a lot of shoes we wear today can be tracked to another era. In the 1990s for example people wore a lot of platform soles, but they were already handed down to us from 16th century chopines. Back then they were needed to keep the feet off the dirty ground, but today they are worn because people like them. The idea remained the same and only the shape was slightly different.
The Japanese for example balanced on getas (=high soled wooden shoes), while the Venetians were wearing the chopine. This is quite weird when you consider that the Japanese had no contact with the Venetians. Even in Europe you could see in the 1990s that they copied the Chinese practise of foot binding. Some men and women in Europe in the past bound their feet together and transformed them into too-tight shoes. Even American women wore shoes that were too small, which is shown by a survey in the early 1990s. The similarities are apparent for both in the West and other parts of the world. However, our shoe styles are now adaptions of the styles of the past.
SHOE FACTS -
Men were the first to wear heels. Jimmy Choo made his first footwear at the age of eleven. The first boots were designed in 1840 for queen Victoria. Imelda Marcos, the First lady of the Philippines had 1056 pair of shoes! Celine Dion owns over 3000 pair of shoes and admitted that even when a pair is not her size, she will buy it if she loves it. The most expensive shoes ever were sold for $600,000 at an auction in 2000. They were worn by Judy Garland on the wizard of oz. The world’s largest shoes can each fit 30 people inside!! They measure 17 feet long and 8 feet wide and were on display at the Markina Shoe Museum in the Philippines.

In 1988 the company was sold for $74.4 million to a banking firm called McCown De Leeuw & Co. 7) Under Armour

Under Armour was founded by Kevin Plank in 1996. The business started in his grandmother’s basement in Washington D.C. Under Armour first only made sport clothes, which were invented when Plank wanted to develop a T-shirt that stayed dry during practice. As a result he made a T-shirt using moisture-wrecking synthetic fibre. Though when he first developed this T-shirt after graduating from the University of Maryland he gave it to his teammates and friends. After that he developed his T-shirt more (so it would stay cool, dry and light) and Reebok, Nike and Adidas soon followed and did the same. Plank wanted to use the British spelling (instead of the American spelling) of armour, because this was the only tollfree vanity number available. Under Armour became popular when people noticed that Jeff George ( a quarterback)was wearing an Under Armour T-shirt. However, the 1st time something was really sold at a large scale was to Georgia Tech (an equipment manager) who wanted to buy 10 Tshirts. In 2006 Under Armour began to develop shoes. It also gave some sponsorships to various famous athletes, like Dwayne Johnson.

10) New Balance
Puma SE, also known as PUMA, was founded in Herzogenaurach in Germany by the borther of Adolf Dassler, Rudolph Dassler. After Rudolph left school he joined his father at the shoe factory. He returned to Herzogenaurach in 1924 to join his younger brother Adolf, who founded his own shoe factory. Together they founded the Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik in 1924, the relationship between the 2 brothers got worse, until they decided to separate in 1948. So Puma went on as an individual company. When they separated Adolph started Adidas, his nickname “Adi” and the first 3 letters of his surname. Rudolph did the same, “Ru” from his name Rudolph and “Da” from his surname, Ruda. Later on he decided to change the name to Puma. Just like Adidas and Nike Puma is a sponsor of sporting events, they sponsor numerous footballers and national football teams. It also sponsors al lot of other sports, for instance cricket, rugby and golf.
New Balance Athletic Shoe, better known as New Balance, is an American shoe manufacture in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. In 1906, William J. Riley, a British emigrant, founded the New Balance Arch Support Company, manufacturing arch supports and other accessories designed to improve shoe fit in the Boston area. His first product, a flexible arch support, was designed with three support points to provide greater balance and comfort in the shoe. Some believe that the name “New Balance” was inspired by his chickens in his yard. He observed them and demonstrated the way his arch supports worked by keeping a chicken foot on his office desk. He explained to customers that the chicken's three-clawed foot resulted in perfect balance. Riley hired Arthur Hall in 1927 to be a salesman. In 1934 Hall became a business partner and found his niche by marketing to people whose jobs required them to spend a lot of time standing. In 1956 Hall sold the business to his daughter Eleanor and her husband Paul Kidd. They continued to sell mainly arch supports until 1960. That’s when they designed and manufactured the "Trackster", the world's first running shoe made with a ripple sole. It was also the first running shoe to come in varying widths. New Balance is one of several shoe companies that makes some of their products in the United States. Green America states in the New Balance Responsible Shopper company information page that around one quarter of NB's shoes are made in the United States. They have 2 factories in Massachusetts and 3 in Main. Again this brand also sponsors a lot of sports teams and sportsmen. For instance the athlete Stephanie Twell. They are also a partner of the Melbourne FC (Australian football). Other sports are basketball, cricket and tennis.
9) DC
DC shoes was originally based in CA, in Carlsbad and founded in June 1994 (by Block and Way), but now it’s based in Huntington Beach in California. After that DC Shoes moved to Quicksilver’s headquarters in Hungtinton Beach. The brand also got a new logo. In 2011 and advertisements were released online. The shoes also entered the women’s market in August 2012, which consisted not only of footwear, but also of accessories, apparel and soft goods. Promotion continued with skaters making signature models.

Rating: 4 • PT – Silent Hills: This is the scariest game we know. It looks very real. This game scared us so much, we had jumped. This game is very complicated, though. It has very specific instructions which you won't figure out unless you have them. We suggest you watch 'teens react to P.T. Silent Hills' from Fine Bros Entertainment on YouTube before playing this game. Rating: 5 Amusement time: 15 min – 45 min 5. The impossible quiz:
1. Free online games: You can surf the internet to find fun online games. There are a lot of sites that can help you to find them. We have already selected a few games to give you some ideas. 3. Things To Do With Another Person
1. Childhood quest: Go through your house and try to find things from your past. You might find something funny, interesting or, most likely, embarrassing. You can find, for instance, old webcam videos, a diary or toys. Amusement time: 30 min – 1 hour

We have already selected two examples for you: dress up as a scary character and hide in a corner, then, jump out when your victim walks into the room. (You do not even need to dress up for this, it is just more fun. Tip: horror movie characters are a great example to make yourself look like.) place a creepy object (a doll for instance) inside a room. When your victim leaves the room, place it somewhere else so it seems like the house is haunted. It helps to tell them a story about it first or to do this late at night. Warning, this one might not work out that well, your victim might not notice the object moving or knows it is you who is moving it. Amusement time: 10 min – 60 min

Build a treehouse: This may sound lame or childish, but it actually is not. It is recommended to find a quiet place in the forest to do this. It will be nice to do alone, but it will be a lot more fun to build it with another person. Tip: You can use a supportive, horizontal branch as a base for the treehouse and place little branches, that you can find in the forest, against it. Amusement time: 30 min- 2 hours 5. Make a scrapbook: A scrapbook is a very nice item for which you do not need to have or buy many things. You make a scrapbook with little things you have laying around. It is a great idea to write a memory on each page and then decorate it with things you can find around. Amusement time: 15 min – 45 min
3. Speech Jammer: ‘Speech Jammer’ is an app you can get on your mobile phone or tablet. Tip: It could be nice to record yourself to see what you have said earlier and made the other person laugh. Amusement time: 10 min – 20 min 4. Chemistry experiments: This is a great concept to do with another person. You can look on Youtube for ideas. We have already selected one idea: Make a lava lamp- all you need is: water, oil, food coloring (optional), salt and a cup.Add water to the cup. It needs to be about 80% full of water. Add a drop of food dye if you want your lava lamp to have a fun color. Add some oil on top, about 10% of the cup so the cup is not filled up all the way to the top. Look from the side as you pour the salt on top. It will sink down and go up again, just like a lava lamp. Amusement time: 30 min – 1 hour 5. Challenges: There is a great variety of different challenges. You can find many on YouTube if you want to search for yourself, but we have already picked two out for you to make it easier. •
