Use design to eliminate waste, over-production or excessive consumption. Create and produce a design solution that persuades people to consume less, reduce waste and to be more efficient with the planet’s resources. Directing the brief at printers and graphic designers, and encouraging them to have a more sustainable practice through inspirational quotes. A series of calendars intended to be sent out to design and print studios in light of the upcoming new year. All print processes and materials are considered in terms of sustainability, using recycled and re-usable paper stocks and left over or waste inks. Various stocks are used throughout the calendar to emphasise the point of producing sustainable design, re-used newspaper being the main stock of choice. Seeded stock adds an element of fun to the product and acts as encouragement to once again recycle by planting the paper and growing flowers.

Create and produce a design solution that persuades people to consume less, reduce waste and to be more efficient with the planet’s resources. Perforation towards the top of the page allows the user to tear away each month as it passes. This also makes it possible to plant the seeded stocks, or keep each page as a poster or individual print. Each calendar is Japanese stab bound to add to the hand crafted style of the design.

Each calendar will be packaged and sent to different design and print studios that are relevant. The Beautiful Meme and Generation Press have been chosen both to continue an existing dialogue and because of their approach to graphic design and print.

Each mail-out is packaged in left over newspaper and contains a signed letter printed onto seeded paper, a personal business card and a hand crafted calendar.
