SPORT

The vision of Rugby at St Aloysius is to encourage, support and develop all player so they are engaged and inspired to excel to the best of their ability on and off the field. The player is at the centre of the coaching process and focuses on the following areas: technical and tactical skills, video analysis, physical development, mental skills, and a healthy lifestyle. We strive to create a values based environment for our players.

They will learn through exploring, trying out new approaches, problem solving and new experiences in a controlled environment that will facilitate the development of the player. They will play against other schools in matches that are fun, safe and enjoyable with lots of running, passing and tackling. With the capacity for greater understanding and technical competence, the games will develop into a more structured format to include the development of basic unit play (restarts, forwards, and backs).

The focus is to develop our pupils’ skills in a fun yet competitive environment.

S3-S4RUGBY-TRAINING

At S3-S4 we focus on skills development in a more competitive environment. Our players will have a greater capacity to focus and will improve their execution of skills and game understanding with the correct attention and application. Players are now highly competitive, but the focus at this stage is precise performance of the individual, unit, and team skills in the pursuit of achieving goals. The game is clearly structured and cohesive, with a greater emphasis on the role of the units.

S6-S6RUGBY-TRAINTOCOMPETE

Players have now committed themselves to rugby as their primary sport and are willing to invest a significant amount of time and energy to become successful. The players will continue to develop themselves as positional specialists to undertake their functional roles. Players will be given greater responsibility while also contributing more towards problem solving. The emphasis will be on developing players’ ability to ‘navigate’ rather than ‘replicate’. Games will be competitive with positional specialists clearly influencing events, mini units and units are well synchronised and team play is concentrated on reducing errors and maximising success. The focus is on achieving desired outcomes in respect to attack and defence goals (team, unit, mini unit). The culmination of the previous stages (performance, structured, fun) are all brought to bear in the pursuit of achieving ‘outcomes.’

Swimming

Swimming is a sport that demands commitment, both physically and mentally. We participate in all regional and National competitions from Glasgow Schools Swimming finals to Scottish Schools Finals.

Volleyball

Volleyball is part of our core PE curriculum and is taught through our certificated programme too. Pupils develop teamwork, cooperation and communication skills while learning to play this game. There is the opportunity to participate in after school Volleyball club to enhance skills further.
