Hear from Multi-National Hotel Chains employers … For me, as person who hasn’t got a degree in Hotel Management, I have found that those who do have hotel management degrees are a step ahead. There are no shortcuts on this career path. I had to work very hard at the beginning to understand how hotel operations work. It is so important to have a well-rounded understanding of the industry. It’s always best if you know what you want to do early in life – it puts you way ahead of the others. If you’re service-minded, enjoy working in a competitive and rewarding industry and you’re sure this is what you want to do; having a Hotel Management Degree absolutely gives you a competitive edge. Ms. Yuthika Charoenrungruang, Assistant Director of Marketing Communications of Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit

In order to advance in your career in the Hospitality Industry, you need to have a deep understanding of basic hotel operations, area functions and the business. Additionally, you need strong English language skills. If you have this skill set, you will be able to work in nearly any part of the world and you’ll advance quickly in your career with international hotel chains. There are more rewards than just a salary – we offer great benefits as well. The Hospitality Industry is still growing and demand for professionals is high. The trend is, and will continue to be, that many international hotel chains are expanding operations to the Asia Pacific Region. Mr. Sitthirat Hothongkam, Executive Assistant Manager and Director of Operational Excellence, Sheraton Grande Hua-Hin

If you really want to pursue a career in Hospitality Industry, it’s important to have good English. This is the first skill that you must have as a graduate. If you do not have good English communication skills, you will not be able to communicate with hotel guests, who come from many different countries, as English is the world’s most commonly spoken language. If you want to work in a five-star hotel, which I think you would want to because of the benefits, English is critical. That’s why going to an educational institution such as Stamford, where you’re going to learn English, is most certainly beneficial for your future. Mr. Tomo Kuriyama, General Manager, Sheraton Pattaya Resort

Stamford’s program has taught me to see with new eyes. To be a successful manager in the hotel industry, you’ve got to check everything - all the details. And you can’t check unless you SEE them. You’ve got to know every process so that you can show your team how to turn these processes into systems. You’ve got to know forecasting and how to communicate. Stamford gave me the hands-on experience I need to be successful in a career in Hotel Management. Huyen Minh Tran, IHM student
