The theme for this volume is “Out of the Darkness.” It’s about those dark and heavy weights we carry. They represent our struggles with pain, loneliness, fear, self-loathing, and so many other things that we beat ourselves up with every single day. As always, each image was selected because it elicits some form of emotion or triggers a memory. My hope is that you take a moment to “read” the story in each page. There is nothing to fear in the darker side of our emotions. That is where growth and strength are cultivated. Speaking of memories, I recently said my goodbyes to my birth mother. We were never close and, actually, hadn’t spoken in about 17 years. When I learned of her passing, however, I was struck with an overwhelming amount of emotion. Something I had sworn I would never feel. It made me realize that no matter how much we tell ourselves that things won’t affect us, they totally do - whether we like it or not. So a word of advice - don’t let petty shit or past hurt lead to regrets later when there is no “later”. Going to her memorial service not only brought me and my 5 other siblings together in the same room for the first time in history, but I learned a whole lot more about the many demons she battled. I learned where her demons were born, understood her inner monologue of self hatred, and I saw her completely...for the very first time. Emotions are good. They are a means to heal and grow, and a way out of the darkness. Always remember, you are beautiful, and worthy of so much love. No bullshit. Live Fearlessly!
