T.O.M. Teams Triumph Again! TeamGV are small but mighty - watch us roar - Green Valley have done it again! This year’s Secondary Arts team and Primary Social Science team won their challenges and are invited to the finals in Australia. Fantastic creative thinking, problem solving and collaboration - huge congratulations to each team - all the hard work has paid off. The good news continues as our Secondary STEM team were awarded honours and our sister school, Sathorn in Bangkok, won both Primary Language and Literature and Primary Arts categories. Congratulations to all the teams who competed!

Vocabulary Parade– educational and creative On Friday March 29 the whole St Andrews community celebrated together with our annual Vocabulary Parade. Students, teachers and Parents all dressed up in a way that represented a word. Secondary students took their word from the tier 2 vocabulary lists that they have been studying this year. As you can see from the photos below, the day was both educational and creative!

New Fitness Area Our student council this year decided to create an outdoor fitness area, using funds raised through various student council activities including Halloween and the Prom. Volunteers gave up a Saturday morning to lay the concrete bases needed for the 5 machines that have been ordered and at the same time learnt about the process of concreting. They realised it is not just about pouring the concrete but more about the preparation of the area to make it ready for the pouring, which required a lot of hard work! It certainly made them appreciate the ancillary staff at St Andrews who regularly carry out jobs like this. Khun Manit, other ground staff and Mr. Scott were there to give advice and commented that the students had done a good job. The equipment has now arrived and been installed ready to be used by parents and students. We look forward to seeing all the very supportive parents who come along to watch their children swim in the mornings watch while working out at the same time.

Secondary Prom 2019 'A Night in Paris' It was a night to remember at this years Secondary Prom with all the glamour of 'A Night in Paris'. The boys were looking very dapper in their tuxedos and the girls were sporting some very sophisticated ensembles!

South East Asian Robotics Competition Alexander, Antony, Justin, Alex and Ben participated in a Robotics competition at Charter International School in Bangkok with 20 other schools from all over South East Asia Congratulations to the GoGo RoboRat team who came 6th overall in . This is the 2nd year Green Valley have entered the competition and we’re going from strength to strength!

Lamda Results– outstanding again! Congratulations to all of our secondary students but particularly to Noah Greener & Laetitia Obry both scoring outrageously well with 92%. Well done too to Jake Heron in Yr 10 who is our youngest ever student to gain the Gold Medal (Pass with Distinction). A BIG THANK You to Mr. Heron for helping our students to succeed and to all the parents who helped with line learning. Lastly to all the students who took the exam – WELL DONE!

Learner Profile Award Congratulations to Florence in Year 8, a recent winner of the Learner Profile Award. Our Learner Profile Attribute focus was 'Principled.' Florence was nominated by Ms Castle, her Art teacher, for her thoughtful suggestion of a charity to support, her concern for the environment, and for being supportive and inclusive towards her fellow students. Well done, Florence, and thank you Ms Castle for the nomination. Congratulations to Ice on being our most recent winner of the Learner Profile Award! Ice was nominated by Khun Rut for outstanding open-mindedness in Thai, where he listens carefully to feedback from other students and reflects on it to improve his academic performance. This was a very popular win - lots of support from the other students! Well done, Ice

Learner Profile Award was given for outstanding "Communication" and both of our winners were in Year 8. Pierre was nominated by Mrs Gilbert because he is open to new ideas, collaborates well and he communicates with good humour with peers and teachers alike. Ginevra was nominated by Ms Thiery for consistently trying hard to use French in class and for making thoughtful comparisons with other languages. Congratulations to you both and thank you to Mrs Gilbert and Ms Thiery for the nominations. This

Year 9 Trip to Khao Yai National Park Year 9 had a great trip to Khao Yai National Park from March 5 - 8. The students slept in tents, wrote their own menus, did their own shopping and cooked their own food. They also did 2 days trekking in the rainforest and spent a few minutes in the visitors centre learning about the history of the park.

IB Art Exhibition– a diverse range of artwork The Year 13 IB Visual Arts students Pup, Lexi, Simi, Baitong and Giesela recently held the 2019 IB Art Exhibition. Those who attended enjoyed a diverse and fabulous range of artwork. We entered the space to see Giesela’s beautiful and commanding depictions of bodies in movement. Baitong’s playful exploration via painting and animations were delightful. Similan’s investigations of faces and bodies, both complete and shattered gave us much to consider. Lexi dominated her space with large photo digital work and an intricate 3D piece inspired by places both near and cosmically far. Finally, Pup intrigued us with large photo digital work presented as a unique installation. Her exhibition also featured paintings, photo digital and film work all connected seamlessly to her themes of love and life. The students spoke with such confidence to their audience. Excellent artwork by an excellent group of young artists. Well done!

Nursing Home Visit Secondary students recently visited Garunyawet Nursing Home in Pattaya as part of the schools charity projects. Students went to give out snacks (donated by Khun Seesa-ang and Khun Penny) and performed a number of songs to provide entertainment for the patients including dancing, singing and playing instruments with our students. Good friendships were made and the students are keen to visit again. Morgane said “It was so emotional and wonderful to make a bond with the people there – it was great to have fun with them” Fabby added “I was a little nervous at first, but the patients were so welcoming – it was very easy for us to join in and dance with them – I can’t wait to go back”.

Hand to Hand Foundation Recently we had a really worthwhile visit to Hand to Hand Foundation. Kyle, Job, Flo, Axelle and Hannah visited to play and do craft activities with the children. A great time was had by all. We also delivered lots of UHT milk for snack times, using money raised by Year 12 CAS students and supplies donated by our school community.

FOBISIA Drama Festival Ten of our Year 7 - 10 students recently joined Mr Heron and Mrs Standen on our annual trip to the FOBISIA Drama Festival. This year the festival took place in Penang, Malaysia over 4 days and 3 nights. Our students had a wonderful time but were kep very busy with evening workshops taking place until as late as 10pm in the evening. Looking ahead, the organisers of the FOBISIA drama are now considering running 2 festivals, one for students in years 7 -and 8 and another for year 9 and 10 students.

Fantastic Fifa Wins Again! Fifa from Year 9 does it again in his first Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) victory! In the final round of the Hong Kong Junior Classic at Clearwater Bay, he took home the Boy’s Division trophy after draining a 15-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole. Fifa said “It felt amazing to make the putt on 18 to win. Winning this tournament makes me feel confident for my upcoming competitions. Thanks to my parents for bringing me here and for always supporting me, the JGTA for hosting this tournament, and Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club and its’ members for letting us play their beautiful golf course. Winning this tournament will make my Junior Order of Merit ranking move up to earn more AJGA PBE stars and I am really looking forward to playing in the AJGA this summer."

GV Students Shine at MUN Early in March, twelve students from Green Valley took part in the second Model United Nations (MUN) conference at GIS, with four of them enjoying their first experience of an MUN event. With over 60 delegates from schools as far as Bangkok and Hua Hin, our students debated topics about current world issues. Two of our students even chaired their own committees. We did exceptionally well in a highly competitive environment, passing all resolutions and even scooping several awards - but special mention must go to Flo in year 8, who won ‘Best Delegate’ at her first ever conference!

Little Lunchtime Music Concert A big thank you to all our amazing performers who entertained us all at the Little Lunchtime Concert! Singers, dancers, rock, reggae, classical and much more - a great showcase for our musical talent at St Andrews Green Valley. Thank you to all the parents and staff who came to support the event and the parent support group for the delicious snacks.

Unplugged - reduce your screen time! In Business Management students have been looking at social marketing, and how campaigns can be designed and produced to influence social behviour and make changes for the better. The Year 12 students were tasked with creating their own social marketing campaigns, with Annelies, Feem and Toosje producing this particularly impressive video. Please spend 3 minutes taking a look. https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=HtKYjh2ja-o&fbclid=IwAR2Hta1CGqWLVSIxsDHnIWQR8q-r0KiMv4J7DHhBBoJhYCpsCfCMdewNK4

Dutch OOGPUNT Educational Video A couple of weeks ago our Dutch speaking students took part in an educational project of OOGPUNT, a Dutch organisation that develops projects where language meets art. The students of Year 1 up to Year 13 worked together and made their own music video about education in their ‘home far away from home’. It was an extremely positive experience for the students and we are all looking forward to seeing the results of their efforts soon. Unfortunately, we still have to wait a bit longer due to editing, but below you can already see a few images that we have received from OOGPUNT. A big thank you to Patrick and Yvette for all their hard work and congratulations to the students of our Dutch stream!

Year 11 Drama Performs J.A.M. The Year 11 IGCSE Drama group recently performed a provocative and highly charged devised piece J.A.M. (Just Another Massacre) to a group of Year 9 – 13 students. The play examines the reasons for and the aftermath of a school shooting with some members of the audience actually taking part in the action.

Phuket 3 on 3 Basketball The boys A played well to make the semi final, ultimately coming 3rd overall. 3v3 is such an exciting format and the 2 days had some amazing games. Both girls teams were great and standout performances from Eva and Sofia gave them some superb wins. Unfortunately both teams missed out on progressing to the final stages but they've picked up so much in terms of game experience.

Secondary Sports Day It was a scorching day out on the field but that didn't stop students from giving their all, with records tumbling in track and field events all day. Congratulations to Samui for another hard fought overall victory!

U13 FOBISIA Games Success! Our boys and girls teams once again did fantastically well in the U13 FOBISIA games in Phuket. Students compete in 3 days of exhausting competition in the disciplines of swimming, athletics, football and basketball. Our results were once again fantastic: 2nd in Swimming; 3rd in Athletics; 2nd in girls football; 1st in girls basketball; 2nd in boys football and 2nd in boys basketball. Thanks to our coaches Mr Standen, Ms Bird and Mr Seargent as well as our very supportive parents who were there to cheer our teams on.

ESAC Dance Competition @ GV Green Valley hosted our first secondary dance competition with dancers from all over the Eastern Seaboard coming to compete. After an evening of tough competition Green Valley finished 3rd in the group dance and first (Laetitia Y8) and third (Lydia Y9) in the solo category!

ESAC Cross Country @ ISE On Monday March 25 our Panthers cross country team was in action at ISE for the ESAC Cross Country race. As usual we were at the head of the pack with Cherry, Willem and Anut (Y6) all finishing first in their respective age categories!
