For over a century there has been a very special and generous philanthropic spirit which has become one of the many great traditions here at the College.
Generations of parents, Old Boys (alumni), faculty and staff, and friends of the School have provided for the many programs and facilities that will now benefit your son. Your contributions will carry this emphatic spirit of giving forward and continue to strengthen the School during your son’s time as a student and once he joins our extensive Old Boy network.
The Importance of Giving
You expect the best in education, including first-rate teachers and learning resources, vast and competitive athletic and extracurricular programs, and special attention to personal development and university admittance. As a not-for-profit institution not receiving government funding, St. Andrew’s relies on tuition fees and donations to meet these expectations. Our efforts to continuously build stronger programs are backed by a community wanting and willing to contribute, something that sets St. Andrew’s apart.
Parents: Your Role in our Community
As a parent at St. Andrew’s College, you are an essential and involved member of our community. You provide necessary financial support in the form of tuition and gifts, you give valuable time and effort volunteering and participating at many events throughout the year, and you have a hand in important decision-making and strategic planning. Our parents offer a wide array of talents and expertise, which is integral to the School’s ongoing development.
A spirit of philanthropy echoes in our school mission statement and motto, respectively:
This brochure will guide you through fundraising at St. Andrew’s College.
“Dedicated to the development of the complete man, the well-rounded citizen.”
and
“Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit ye like men, be strong. Let all your things be done with charity.”
ANNUAL GIVING
Annual Giving is the cornerstone of all fundraising programs at St. Andrew’s – the foundation upon which all other fundraising efforts are built. Gifts to the Annual Fund provide support for current year operations and add value to academic and extracurricular programs.
The SAC Parent Fund
The School asks each family to make an annual gift of $1,500 to the SAC Parent Fund. This voluntary donation is facilitated by way of the Business Office through your son’s account. Each year in the fall term, three SAC Voluntary Gift installments ($500 each) are included on your account. Like all donations, these voluntary gifts will receive a tax receipt eligible for the year in which the donation is made.
Annual Fund
All members of our community are asked to give each year, including Old Boys, faculty, staff, governors, and trustees. Donors often contribute to one or more areas of the school for which they are passionate, such as: the Arts, Cadets, Pipes & Drums, Athletics, or various endowed funds. For Parents, a list of potential areas for current year support in made available in the fall.
We are grateful to receive high rates of participation across all members of our community. Not only is this a significant measure of passion and commitment, but integral to the ongoing success and development of our school.
CAPITAL GIVING
Strengthening the Future, Preserving the Past
Capital gifts to St. Andrew’s meet campus building needs that cannot be met by tuition and annual giving. A capital campaign is an intensive fundraising effort that typically has a set goal and timeline and yields significant improvements to the School. In fact, all facilities at SAC were funded by capital gifts and the generosity of past Andreans.
Since 2002, the School has embarked on three major capital campaigns:
$60 million in capital funding since 2000

1. What is the St. Andrew’s College Foundation?
The SAC Foundation is the entity that represents and accepts all donations made to the School. Established in 1962, the Foundation is responsible for distributing gifts across various funds and the growth of the School’s Endowment Fund. A Board of Trustees governs the Foundation on a volunteer basis, and all donations directly support the School.
2. Are gifts to St. Andrew’s considered eligible for charitable tax receipts?
Yes! Gifts to St. Andrew’s College Foundation provide the same tax incentive as donations to any other registered charity in Canada. In Ontario, depending on your income tax bracket, you are eligible to receive up to 50.41% on donations over $200.
3. How else can I support SAC?
In addition to our Annual Giving program, there are other unique initiatives to which you can contribute.
Tribute Gifts: Leave your mark around campus with a tribute gift in your son’s name or in honour of someone special. These types of gifts include a named Auditorium Seat, a Tree, Bench, or Donor Recognition Board.
Planned Giving: The most popular planned gifts are bequests (leaving SAC in your will) and life insurance. These gifts provide the School with a significant donation and are designed to allow you to contribute more than you would have thought possible.
Red &
White Gala:
Each year in the spring, the School’s Parents Guild hosts a major fundraiser – the Red & White Gala. This annual event is a favourite among parents and is a way to meet other parents while raising money for St. Andrew’s and having a great time!
4. What is an Endowment Fund, and how does it differ from the Annual Fund?
The SAC Endowment Fund is a substantial fund comprised of unique individual funds established by donors that provide the School with scholarship and programmatic monies each year. The distribution to the School is offset by earned investment income and donations, which enables the overall value of the Endowment to grow, ultimately increasing the annual disbursement. The Annual Fund raises money for current year priorities that add value to our student experience and programs.
The Legacy Campaign endeavours to support and give opportunity to the young men of St. Andrew’s, both today and in the future. Growing our Endowment Fund makes an SAC education more affordable, enhances the traditions and programs that make us who we are, and provides overall long-term financial strength and security. As our endowment grows, so too does its annual disbursement to the College, making your gift to the Legacy Campaign one that truly keeps on giving.
