As one year fades away and the next begins, another class has graduated. But will high school da ys be forgotten and left behind? The 1961 SCOTTY wa s printed in order that we ma y alwa ys be able to look back and recollect the happ y, care free, and yet busy hours we ha ve spent in S. H . S. ; to see at a glance our c lassma res, friends, and teachers, and to keep in our hearts the many fond memories of da ys gone by. We hope that each and e ver y one greatl y enjoys the book . May it alwa ys remi nd you of moments you wish to remember. Carolyn McCormick - Editor Paula Cobbs - Assistant Editor Maxine Goodman - Business Manager

What constitutes a good teacher ? - - - a per son who is a friend to each of his students not only as a member of the class, but as an individual. One who can guide his students through many problems and hard times wi th untiring patience -- - a sense of fairness and respect for the opinions of others -- - the giving of his time unselfishly regardless of the occasion. Throughout his years at Scottsville High School he has been this type of teacher to each of his students. With wisdom he has directed us when we came to a fork in the road. He has helped to mold us into far better cit izens than we were . These are some of the reasons for our great fondness of him. In recognition of fine work well done; to one whom we all ad mire and whose friendship we cherish, we proudly dedicate our 1961 SCOTTY to --MR . RICHARD W. FOWLER

?rincipafis 2/(essase

The purpose of attending school is to help us solve the personal problem of life. Our own personal problem is quite the same 路 as that of every other person. It is to make ourselves as big and fine . and useful and human as we possibly can. If this one problem could be solved, by every person, most of the world problems would be solved because everyone would be striving to the limit of his ability to improve himself in every phase of life. 路路 --T. A. Allison

OUR c~-P~

CHALLENGE The prosperity and individual freedoms we enjoy today are hard-earned gifts from our forefathers and must never be taken for granted. Each new generation must stand on its own feet and preserve these freedoms. The freedoms we enjoy through the American Way have a high price and must be earned over and over. W. Somerset Maughan expresses it this way: "If a nation values anything more than freedom, it will lose its freedom; and the irony of it is that if it is comfort or money that it values more, it will lose that, too."
