FINES

SCDL does not charge to check out library materials. Due date receipts are given at every checkout. However, if items are not returned or renewed by the due date, overdue fines will accrue. The fine for all materials, unless specifically noted, is 10¢/day/item. Fines for videos, DVDs, SearchOhio and ILL material are 50¢/day/item. Patrons may not check out or renew items if fines, fees or overdue materials exceed $5.00. • 1st Overdue Notice by phone, email or text one (1) week after an item is due. • 2nd Overdue Notice is sent three (3) weeks after the due date. • Four (4) weeks overdue, a bill will be mailed. Customers who have more than $25 in fines or overdue materials may be sent to the library's collection agency once the items reach 2 months overdue. Fines may be paid online or in person. All SCDL locations accept cash, personal checks and major credit cards. Restrictions may apply.

ow healthy is your brain? I tested mine recently and learned that there are simple ways to exercise my mind and improve my brain health. Learning new things is a great way to stay healthy. This summer at Stark County District Library your library card can be used to access a world of books and lifelong learning opportunities. Regardless of your age or bank account, you can use that little card to foster a love for reading and learning that will exercise your mind and enrich your life. The 2013 Summer Reading Challenge theme is Exercise Your TENA WILSON Mind. What great incentive to keep your mind in shape. Kids up Executive Director, to high school seniors can pledge to read this summer and win Stark County prizes as they track their success. Caregivers can pledge to read District Library to their little ones. In these pages you will see numerous opportunities for personal growth. Why not take a class or join a book group? If you are responsible for little minds, sign the children up for Summer Reading Challenge and watch them grow. There is no greater gift that you can give a child than the love of reading. New FOL Board Members FOL elects new board members at annual meeting in January. Left to right: Carol Boydston, Kathleen Kling, Gerald Kramer, Gary Maurer, and Sherry Seybert.

FOL supported the Tri-County Academic Challenge League Tournament that took place January 30 at Sandy Valley High School, with contestants from 12 high schools. FOL’s chairman Roberta McGovern presented medals to the winners. We also underwrote the activity with a generous check to help with food expenses.

We're borrowing SEO’s (Serving Every Ohioan) Mobile Technology Training Center from June 12 through June 17. This lab is a 35 foot bus equipped with 10 networked PC’s, plus a printer and projector. The bus will be parked in North Branch’s extension parking lot and we’ll offer training classes on board all week. We don’t want to rack up any fines, so we have to return it on time. Make sure you sign up for classes early – see page 9 for class information and times – and don’t miss out on this opportunity.
