visited a play by Darlington Michaels about nyaope.
Darlington Michaels better known as Pappa – G aka Georgie Zamdela in the tv soapie Isidingo, won the hearts of local residents of Vosloorus on Saturday (the 3rd of September) afternoon. Although it was he’s cast who brought the true picture and story to life, Darlington is the mastermind, the brains, behind the picture. The corrupt hoodlum character portrayed by Georgie Zamdela is actually the complete opposite of the man who plays it except for the colourful snazzy attire and gold rings on most fingers. In fact Darlington explains to me that he has always wanted to write he’s own plays that show real situations on what goes on in the townships in real life. He shares on how he was actually one of the first actors to be on Gibson Kent’s crew. He also shares on how he joined the stage production those years to learn more on how to direct and made it his personal mission. Darlington has written 9 plays and takes great pride on the first plays that he wrote “Ababhemi” (glue sniffers) that won him a merit award in Grahamstown. The crews call him thimmer as he has developed a slight friendship with the young energy filled performers. Darlington has not only create job opportunities but he is also educating the youth and parents, on the use of drugs and sexual behavours that is taking place right under their nose threw he’s play. This play in particular “ Who’s to blame?” is a perfect and the most clear way that shows the problems that school children face in our black communities. The angle of which Darlington chose couldn’t
have been more real. The show tells of how a group of students who are friends are each portrayed and how some are subject and victims of drug selling. One boy in the play named Bongani, school team soccer player (striker) is promised by he’s coach a dream come true if only he can be he’s mule and sell he’s stock. The boy later gets shot over an argument about those drugs landing him on a wheel chair crippled for life. The play also lets us in on the gossip of the group of students who meet regularly at lunch to dish up juicy news on their fellow school mate who has sexual intercourse with a maths teachers. As if that’s not enough of exciting info, the story also views the angle from a street hawker, a lady who has been a victim of nyope violence. This lady who sells sweets and cigarettes and secretly alcohol to a local Zulu man who lives in the hostel, does a good job at ease dropping and getting all the gossip from the group of friends un noticed.

STAROOT JOURNAL KASIE BIZ PROFILE INDONESIA - SOUTH AFRICA BUSINESS GETHERING.
The 30th of September 2015 will forever be a day to remember in the history of NAFCOC. I walked into the Parktonian hotel in Parktown, and felt as if I was in some part of Indonesia, as we were welcomed by Indonesian ladies at the entrance who were selling beautiful Indonesian textiles and bags. The set up was remarkable and impressive at the door I couldn’t wait to enter the main hall. Two big Indonesian umbrellas at each side of the large projector decorated the room and gave it the real Indonesian feel. A thought through conference set up with layers form Indonesia on each table. This Fancy but simple seminar started of with a bang when it was announced that, the Government of Indonesia was giving all south Africans a 30 days free visa to the country, that was not all, the two countries signed a MOU and it was the highlight of this event. The crowd clapped and cheered with smiles up to their cheeks as the welcomed the free gift and historical moment in the making. With that in mind, even I don’t want to be left behind Indonesia Is surely my next stop.

The HOD of NAFCOC Indonesia pleaded with everyone from the two countries in the room saying that we need to visit each other, and that we need to host more of these seminars, we also need to learn each other’s economies and must work together to create more jobs and opportunities.
The South African NAFCOC team was introduce before President Lawrence Mabundla gave a brief scope of where South Africa is standing currently since in relations with Indonesia. He out lined that there are currently 1 million Indonesians in SA and that the language even sounds and is more or like the same with the Afrikaans language. He added that there were 70 business people that were taken to Indonesia in last years by the chamber, and that the chamber hopes to double that number in the coming year. The corporate banks in Indonesia are the size of Absa bank, he exclaimed. He further explained the importance of having smme’s and that the chamber learnt the skill of establishing a ministry of smme’s from Indonesia.
At the back of the conference room, were a few tables of businesses that had their products on display . Kalbe is a pharmaceutical company that displayed health food especially for diabetic people. Achib Culting (women in manufacturing and reselling) was also there with a table filled with carved statues and hand made hand bags from African materials.
