Six degr ees of f r eedom, Hand t r ack ing, Body t r ack ing, and mor e when you put t he high-t ech immer sive Vir t ual Realit y goggles on. I n our own words, Virtual Reality is a type of immersive platform in the form of goggles that looks like a toaster, that you put on your face and it shows two pictures in two lenses that line up with your eyes, and tracks your movement and translates it into the simulated virtual world. I n the movie ?Ready Player One?, the character Wade Watts or ?Parzival?, his virtual reality name, has a bunch of haptic gear. Haptic gear for Virtual Reality right now is gloves that you slide on your hands, to simulate touch in the Virtual world. Currently, there is a company called Plexus that makes them for $249 USD. But, if you already spent lots of money on a VR headset, and don?t want to spend over 200 dollars on Haptic Gloves, there is an alternative. The Oculus Quest just got an update that makes the headset able to TRACK YOUR HANDS. No controllers, no nothing. The Oculus Quest uses the external cameras to track the movements of your fingers and hands. Hand tracking will start off small, but get bigger and bigger until you can just throw away your controllers. But of course, some people may still prefer the traditional controllers. Virtual Reality isn?t just about games, either. There are a few apps you can get for free, that let you watch your favorite YouTube videos, NETFLI X shows, and so much more, in a virtual theater! Virtual Reality is evolving at astounding rates, and in a few years, everything in this article will be true, and so much more. All we have to do is dream.

Su st ain able Ar ch it ect u r e By: Ebo Rice Wh at does it en t ail? Modern, urban architecture, although it may seem non-environmentally friendly because of the amount of glass, steel, and concrete used to make it. This new era of architecture might be a key part of the puzzle of beating overusing water, climate change, and unhealthy or unsafe building regulations, construction or materials.
Su bu r ban Ar ch it ect u r e Suburban architecture very different in the United States than most places in the world. Suburban architecture is taking steps backwards from where we need to go. Suburban architecture includes ?McMansions? which are splices of various architectural styles primarily from Europe. Also, ?McMansions? are almost completely made out of wood. Though very cheap, it is unsafe for fires and other disasters. Urban modern architecture is slowly leaning towards safer and healthier buildings. Urban modern architects are designing buildings to be made with safe materials and supplies with designs for strength and durability.
Th e Righ t Dir ect ion Modern Urban architecture is moving towards self-sustainability. Self-sustaining entails that the building will be able to produce its own energy with very little human maintenance. The materials are mostly reusable. Also, some very ambitious architects are designing self sustaining towns/ cities inside of one building. This means it will be able to produce its own energy, food, and be able to recycle its own waste and water. These are very ambitious and bold ideas but may be just what we need to save fresh water. Fresh water is taken for granted all over the world. Farmers specifically use far too much water irrigating their crops.
Un lik ely M at er ial Architecture Firms in Canada are designing and creating skyscrapers made completely of wood. This may seem bad, but the wood is as strong as steel, cheaper, and very fire resistant. Also, this makes buildings far more easy to construct due to the maneuverability of wood.
Ben ef it s of M oder n , Ur ban Ar ch it ect u r e Modern, urban architecture could also mean a whole new way of living for citizens. Cities would be more human based, rather than revolving around cars. That means less carbon emissions, better air quality, and better living conditions. The architecture would push people to be more social because they would walk and ride bikes everywhere. This would also make people healthier because of more exercise. Public Transportation would also become better because people would rely more on that than any other means of transportation. With a natural look due to the exterior gardens to lower carbon emissions of the building. The citizens will live a healthier life.
Ur ban f ar m in g Some people are taking the initiative to design and create a fully functional vertical farming module. Kimbal Musk, yes Elon has a brother, has designed an urban farm that is self contained. Meaning, it recycles its water, produces its own energy using solar panels, and requires very little human interaction. Also, this all fits in a shipping container. It uses vertically moving water streams to continuously water the crops. Since plants only use the red and blue color spectrum, the lights on the interior only use that type of light. Also, since these are so compact and efficient, they can be placed practically anywhere and produce food. This company is called Square Roots and is a startup manages by Kimbal Musk. The modules are also computer aided. This means that a computer can scan and control the entire machine. Square Roots will be able to produce fresh crops right inside of a densely populated city.

Wh er e Do We Get Ou r Pow er ? by John Wishnack As a Richmond native, I can take pride in leaving a relatively small carbon-footprint, in terms of energy consumption. As a whole, Richmond (not including the surrounding counties) contracts Dominion Energy for electricity, who provides 8% clean energy to the city. Of this clean energy roughly 67% is nuclear, 16% hydroelectric, 3% solar, and less than 1% is independent wind and solar. The rest of the power comes from a coal-powered plant which is called the Bellemeade Power Station. Just over an hours drive away from downtown, the North Anna Nuclear Generating Station is busy providing most of our power, reliably, safely and sustainably.. The plant is one of the best in the country, certainly the hardiest. In 2011, North Anna was put to the test. The power station was built on Lake Anna, and completed in 1980. It just so happens that it was also built right over a seismic fault. On August 13th, 2011, a magnitude earthquake struck Virginia, and could reportedly be felt as far as Boston(unconfirmed accounts say Northern Maine). The Nuclear Facility was put on "Alert", stage two out of four for warnings. All safety procedures went exactly as planned; the direct power loop was immediately replaced by battery generators . and although reactor two shut down, one of the emergency reactors took it's place.

Now , you ?r e pr obably st ill w on der in g w h at exact ly Red Tide is. Red Tide is a w at er discolor at ion cau sed by a bloom of t oxic dinoflagellates. Pollution of fertilizers and other unnatural toxins contribute to this ¨ Red Water¨ . Dinoflagellate Is a single-celled organism that accumulates in shellfish or other fish. When consumed they cause disease throughout the body. For the past two weeks, there has been reports of the amount of red tide growing and reaching Sarasota county. Red Tide is still going and is getting worse. Fish and Wildlife officials have confirmed high levels of red tide in Sarasota county. The longest recorded bloom of Red Tide ever was 30 months long!
What is causing Red Tide? It is a phenomenon caused by algal blooms but also has other factors. The algae becomes so numerous that it releases toxins and depletes oxygen killing fish and other animals. It also is caused by warm ocean surface temperatures, low salinity, high nutrient content, calm seas, and rainy days immediately followed by sunny days. The algae spreads through ships, winds, and currents.
How can people stop Red Tide? 1. We can pick up our pets waste 2. Wash your car over the grass, gravel, or other surfaces that can absorb the water and soap. 3. Don?t Use chemical fertilizers 4. Use compost and natural mulch
https 5. Plant native climate-appropriate plants. 6. Go organic
What types of species are directly affected by Red Tide? All species of fish are affected by red tide. Regardless of age or type. The gills of the fish stop functioning so they can?t breathe. They also die from exposer to large amounts of toxins. The most common being

t h e R i se o r t h e Fa l l COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAM S ON THE RISE AND THE FALL
RISE
FALL
While Baylor has always been a good top 25 team they have really taken over college basketball this year. They took the number one rank for week 12.
Last year Richmond Basketball had a losing record of 13-20. They really turned around this year and currently have a good, winning record of 16-6 through the first 22.
Going into this year everyone thought SDSU was going to be good, but this good. SDSU started 26-0, undefeated and 4th in the rankings.
In the SEC it's always hard to compete against Kentucky but this year Auburn beat them. Auburn made the Final Four last year but then, splish, splish splish. Kyle Guy of UVA made three free throws for the win
UNC, a blue blood school, basketball powerhouse, where MJwent. Yet, none of that will help them this year. through their first 28 games they were 11-17, 4-12 in the ACC. With losses to Wofford and Pitt.
Last year UCF had a good year, being ranked and making the tournament. Losing to Duke by one in the second round. This year UCF is 12-10 through the first 22 and not in title contention for the American.
Last year Tennessee was one of the premier teams. This year not so much, barely in the contention for an SEC title and unranked.
Last year the Hokies were a good team, being ranked and almost upsetting Duke in the Sweet Sixteen. But this year is a little different. They even got murdered by UVA by 26 points.

Th e Begi n n i n g of t h e Th r ee-Poi n t Li n e The three-point line was a big transition for the NBA. The three-point line was created to make it harder for sharpshooters in the league. The line originally came from the ABA league who implemented the line in 1967. The ABA first season was in 1967. Soon after he created the three-point line, the NBA adopted the line in the 1970/1980 season. At the start, coaches and players disliked the new rule. With the three-point line, the tactics and strategies of the game completely changed. The three-point line was 23 feet and 9 inches away from the hoop. The three-point line helped develop and made sharpshooters faster and better at shooting. Some were so fast at shooting that a player from the New York Knicks named Trent Tucker shot the ball that was inbounded to him in a whopping .1 seconds. After this game-changing play, the NBA made a rule known as the Trent Tucker rule that made it so that the ball could not be shot in under .3 seconds.
Rev ol u t i on of t h e Th r ee-Poi n t Li n e
At the time the three-point line was created the crowd would jump if a three-point shot was taken. At the time taking a three-point shot was like taking a shot a Harlem Globetraughter would take. With the three-point line, the tactics and strategies of the game completely changed. Now in modern basketball, a three-point shot is made more often then when it was introduced.
Pl ay er af f ect ed by t h e Th r ee-Poi n t Li n e The three-point line helped players improve their skills. Great players in the 70s like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar never shot from the three-point line for almost half of his career and had a 5.5 percent chance of making a three-point shot. Now, great players like Stephen Curry has a 60.7 percent chance from the three-point line. There is a 55 percent difference between both of those players. That is a big change in only 50 years.
Th e f i r st Pl ay er s t o sh oot f r om t h e Th r ee-poi n t l i n e After the very negative comments about the new rule, that same season the three-point shot was taken. The very first player to make the three-point shot was Chris Ford and he played for the Boston Celtics. At the end of the 1979/1980 season, Chris Ford had the highest three-point percentage in the league. At the start of the rule, the best three-point shooters in the league were players who originally played in the ABA so they had practice shooting from the line. Even though those players only took three three-point shots a game. Larry Bird did not need any introduction to the rule. He made an average of three three-point shots a game and is one of the best three-point shooters ever. Larry Bird also won the MVP award multiple times. Just for comparison in the NBA 2017/2018 season, Stephen Curry takes an average of ten three-point shots a game.

Th e PS5 St or y by Wyn n Hladk y Page design by Riley War e Opening It is true. Sony is making another PlayStation. They have confirmed it themselves. Following the pattern the new console will be called the PS5. The PS5 is coming out during the Holiday of 2020, so don?t ask to get a PS4 this year for Christmas. Specs The PS5 is going to continue to use discs but it has also been confirmed that it will have reverse compatibilit y like the other PlayStation consoles. This is kind of shocking because it will support ray tracing for games that need it. Ray tracing is where the system is able to display liquids and light incredibly realistically. It will also have 8K graphics and a very powerful processor. Pricing Sony is keeping the price hidden for now, but it is most likely going to be 450 to 500 dollars on release. I know, that is a prett y big price tag for middle school kid. You might just have to ask for it for Christmas or your birthday. VR There is very little information on the compatibilit y with VR, but it is confirmed that it will be able to work with VR games. The Controller The controller is going to be different from its predecessors. It is going to have the classic x, o, square, and triangle buttons, but the difference is that there is going to be a small screen in the middle. For the most part it is unknown what this screen will do and we'll just have to wait and see.

General info. Celeste was released back in 2018 and was one of the games that helped to start the rising popularit y of indie games. Celeste is a modern 2d 8-bit single-player platformer released by Matt Makes Games. The game itself was only made by about 6 people. The main one, of course, being Matt, Matt Thorson. Celeste is considered by many to be a difficult game. I don?t fully agree with this because like most games I think if you put in some time and effort the game is not too hard. It is fairly rare that a very good and original platformer is released, so Celeste is a breath of fresh air. The game has been nominated for 30 awards. However, out of those 30 it has won 10 awards, including the Audience Award, Best Independent Game, and Best Action Game of the Year.
Gameplay The game is extremely fun, it has lots of difficult platforming sections and extremely smooth movement. The combination of the t wo is what makes it so good. The main goal is for the main character Madeline to climb Celeste Mountain. In Celeste, there are eight chapters. But in addition, they added a ninth free DLC chapter titled Farewell. The ninth chapter added over 100 levels. Celeste even has an assist mode if you are having trouble. I suggest you don?t use it because it takes away a lot of the game?s experience.

HO NK! An Untitled Game Review Untitled Goose Game is a hit indie game that came out of nowhere and rose to the top by storm. It was created by House House, a little known australian company that had no other major success before. Initially released for Windows and Nintendo Switch, it blew up, selling 100,000 copies in its first two weeks on the Switch alone. Because of its ludicrous success, both Xbox PS4 have confirmed it will be joining their roster of games. But, why did this happen? How could a team 4 game developers and one music specialist make a bestselling switch game? The answer is simple. Untitled Goose Game is a silly, fun game in which you play as a goose and harass townsfolk by stealing objects, honking at them, and completing various other objectives as shown in the game. Untitled Goose Game?s gameplay is not exactly extreme in a coding sense. Simple cartoon characters and minimal controls make up most of the gameplay. This is where we start to see the reason for its popularity. The majority of people that have bought Untitled Goose Game weren?t looking for a competitive grindy game but instead were looking to just sit back and enjoy a stupid indie game. Overall Untitled Goose Game isn?t a game that can be mastered or explored but it simply doesn?t need to be and fully accomplishes being the type of game it is.
