In-patient care

There are all sorts of misconceptions about what hospice actually is. We’re incredibly proud of our state-of-the-art hospice building, but hospice care extends far beyond four walls. In this section you’ll get an understanding of the full range of support services we offer, that help patients manage every aspect of their illness.

IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Hospice care isn’t about a hospice building, it’s about making sure everyone who needs it receives the very best care possible. Often that means us caring for people in their own communities and in their own homes.

COMMUNITY PALLIATIVE CARE

Our community hospice team – made up of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists – will help you manage your symptoms and provide you with access to the services you need to live well in your own home. We ’ll work closely with your GP to make sure you and your family have all the support you need.

HOSPICE AT HOME

Our hospice at home team may help care for you and support your family in the comfort of your own home. The team provides a responsive service to patients across Edinburgh and the Lothians, providing personal care and support for you and your family.

WELLBEING SERVICE

Our Wellbeing Service provides a range of inpatient and community-based groups and sessions to help you to improve your physical and emotional wellbeing, to learn how to self-manage your symptoms and their impact on your life, and achieve the things that are important to you. Support is offered in person and many sessions can be provided virtually (e.g. using your tablet or computer). We can support you both one to one and in a group. The service is provided from the Wellbeing Studio and Therapy rooms in the Hospice, as well as in-patient rooms and people ’ s own homes.

COMPASSIONATE NEIGHBOURS

Our Compassionate Neighbours offer one-to-one social and emotional support to people who may be experiencing loneliness and social isolation. We match people together who share similar interests with the aim of building strong, reciprocal relationships which add joy and a real sense of belonging to those we connect. Compassionate Neighbours change lives, those of our community members and their families, the Compassionate Neighbour volunteers and the communities they engage with.
