OUR SUPPORTERS

We deliver every aspect of our care outlined in this directory absolutely free of charge to all patients and their families.

We’re an independent charity. Our independence is one of our strengths but it also means we have to raise around 75% of all the money we spend through fundraising and support from our local community and corporate sponsors. We’re incredibly grateful.

Lots of people support us through our charity shops across Edinburgh and the Lothians. All our shops accept donations of goods. Some people choose to leave a gift to St Columba ’ s Hospice Care in their Will. These, like all the gifts we received, are vital to the continued delivery of our services. Other people get involved with us through fundraising. Others donate to us in memory of a loved one, take on sponsorship challenges, organise events, and take part in our events such as our annual art exhibition and Light up a Life appeal. A huge thank you to everyone who supports us. We can only care because they do.

This is your home from home, so please feel free to take photos, books or other small items with you. Each bed space has a lockable cabinet.

CAN I USE MY MOBILE?

Yes. We just ask that you keep it on silent mode so it doesn ’t disturb anyone else. If you ’d like to make a call and you don ’t have a mobile phone, just let a member of the team know.

Yes. There is complimentary wifi throughout the whole building. To use it, select SCH-Guest and enter the password 1234567890. Please shout if you have any issues.

IS THERE PARKING?

Yes. We have disabled parking bays within the grounds, at the main entrance. A larger car park for Blue Badge holders is past the front gate and down the lane. Parking cost £1 for 24hrs – this money contributes to the running of the hospice. If the car park is full, on-street parking is available in the surrounding streets.

DO YOU HAVE A FIRE ALARM?

Yes. Every Friday at 10.30am there is a fire alarm test. If you hear the alarm at any other time, please leave by your nearest exit and make your way to “Thistle” the blue cow under the Cedar Tree. Don ’t worry, we have carefully designed evacuation procedures for patients.

CAN MY PET VISIT ME?

Pets are very welcome. We believe pets can bring a great deal of comfort to patients. Please check with a nurse before you bring any animals in so we can make arrangement for anyone with allergies. Keep your dog on a lead and other pets in their carriers when moving about the building.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MEAL TIMES?

Meals will be served to you in your room. We encourage everyone to get out of bed for meal time, if they can manage. The catering team creates a daily menu that meets the needs of those staying with us, with plenty of tempting choices. Eat as much as you wish and enjoy every mouthful.
