8:00 ARRIVAL: Begin your day meeting your counselors and playing with your fellow campers in the Lower School Gym before all the fun begins.

Summer Experience is a six week camp held on the beautiful campus of St. Christopher’s School! Join us for one week, six weeks or anywhere in between! Each week will be exciting and different! Come join us for activities and instruction in swimming, tennis, arts and crafts, computer, playground, soccer, basketball, indoor and outdoor games, and more. We’ll play games, meet new friends, learn new skills, and play more games…and that’s just the first day! Summer Experience helps kids develop both socially and physically through organized recreation and positive encouragement. Campers gain self-confidence in a fun and caring environment that stresses self control, responsibility, teamwork, and fair play. Summer Experience “lets kids be kids,” but gives parents the all important assurance of supervision and safety.

9:05 ART: Get creative as you use your imagination to make some awesome art projects. You’ll draw, paint, sculpt, and use a variety of other media to produce your masterpieces.

2:10 SWIMMING: Nothing feels better on a summer day than taking a dip in the pool! Cool down and have fun swimming in our on-campus pool under the supervision of a certified lifeguard and your counselors. 3:00 COURT SPORTS: Learn new skills and practice playing a variety of sports. Play tennis on our outdoor courts and basketball and volleyball in the gym. Camp Offerings: June All-Star Athletes Enrollment: 4-5 year olds Dates: June 6-10 Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Cost: $175 Instructor: Jen O’Ferrall Do you have a budding all-star? Enjoy exploring a new sport each day through friendly, age appropriate, fun-filled play time. Themed crafts and literature will round out each day and allow our little athletes to strengthen both their fine and gross motor skills. Ready, set, play!

summer program is designed for beginners, novices and seasoned players. Participants will be grouped together by age and ability. If you are a beginner, you will be taught the proper fundamentals of the game with an emphasis on proper footwork and stroke production. We stress the importance of “no bad habits” so the improvement process will not be restricted. If you are a more experienced player, we identify your weaknesses and improve upon them to enable you to take your game to another level. Eight outdoor courts in our tennis facility, plus five indoor courts in Bolling Field House, make our facilities some of the best around. Come see for yourself! Our “beginners” program for kids between the ages of 5 and 8 years old is designed to introduce the fundamentals to children that have never played before. We will use undersized racquets along with other modern teaching techniques that will develop hand-eye coordination at an early age. All the great players started young! This program will last 11 /2 hours.

First Tee Golf Camp Enrollment: Rising K-2 Dates: June 6-10 Time: 9:00- 11:00 Cost: $135 Instructor: Rich Morton 1st Tee Golf provides an opportunity for students that are new to golf to build skills and learn about the game while still challenging those students who are more experienced. Students who have participated in St. Christopher’s 1st Tee Golf Program will build on the skills they have developed while students who haven’t will be able to jump into the program without a problem. The program is also designed to build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices. Students will be provided with individual instruction and also given the opportunity to use the skills in various games. Clubs will be provided. Students are asked to not bring their own clubs. Rookie Rugby Camp

Intro to Moral Philosophy

Enrollment: Rising 3-5 Dates: June 6-10 Time: 12:30- 2:30 Cost: $135 Instructor: Rich Morton We will learn the basic rules and skills used in Rugby and participate in non-contact Rugby games. Rookie Rugby helps develop passing, catching, and evasion skills necessary for most sports. There is an emphasis on having all teammates involved, developing sportsmanship and improving cardiovascular fitness through constant movement. No experience is needed. Camp will be lead by Rich Morton (Lower School Gym Teacher and Coach). Coach Morton is also a Level 100 Certified Rugby Coach and a Football Coach at St. Christopher’s.

Brixology Camp sets the foundation for our next generation of makers! Children learn about different types of engineering and then team up to construct a different engineering-themed project using LEGO® bricks. They learn about aerospace engineering while assembling a space station. They explore mechanical engineering as they build boats and vehicles. That’s not all – from carnival rides to drawing machines, mechanical animals to truss bridges, your future engineer will build upon their creativity to solve real-world design challenges, while developing their problem-solving and team-building skills. Let the tinkering begin! Campers receive daily custom Mad Science brick take home brick projects.

We will meet at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, June 7 in Chamberlayne Hall, Room 100 to address the course expectations and make certain everyone knows how to read and complete the work online. I expect the meeting to last one hour. This will be the only time we meet in person as a class. In this course, we will read and discuss the classic models for making moral decisions and examine contemporary ethical issues occurring in our society today; we will pay particular attention to bio-ethical topics. Included in our survey are Cultural Relativism, Natural Law, Divine Command, Egoism, Utilitarianism and Kantianism. Assessments will be in the form of active participation, daily tests, and three papers, due Monday June 13th, 20th, and 27th. All assignments and assessments will be done online. The last paper will be due June 28. This course is designed for students who are self-motivated and organized. The course counts as the required upper level religion course. Campers will explore our solar system and discover why Mars is the next step for human exploration. Campers will build and launch rockets; investigating what is necessary to leave earth and cross space to our neighboring planets. Robotics are fundamental to early exploration and campers will spend two days delving into advanced robotic concepts along with building an OWI All Terrain Robot to take home. They will test their skills battling robotic arms in a tournament to see how difficult it is for the rovers. Beach Prep 101 Rising 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th graders who will not take Health 9 during 9th grade year. June 13- July 5 9am-12pm daily $425 Clarke Miller - Upper School Health Teacher

Summer Health 9 covers all of the information studied in the regular semester class. We will focus on physical components of human health by studying different body systems: Digestive, Endocrine, Reproductive, Nervous, Muscular, and Skeletal. Throughout the course we will look at what behaviors and choices will help students live longer, happier lives. Students will read and examine various sources and think critically about strategies for optimal health. Students will be in class from Monday 6/13 through Friday 7/1 and take the final exam on Tuesday 7/5.

Health 10 Enrollment: Rising 10th, 11th, or 12th graders who will not take Health 10 during 10th grade year. Dates: June 13 - July 27 Time: N/A Cost: $495 Instructor: Clarke Miller - Upper School Health Teacher Summer Health 10 is a online course. Students will come to campus for one in-person meeting on June Thursday, June 9th from 9am to 12pm for an introduction to and preparation for the online material. The academic portion of the class begins on June 13th and ends on July 24th with the final exam due on Wednesday July 27th. After June 13th students will not need to be on campus to complete the coursework, but they will need a reliable connection to the Internet throughout the duration of the course. Coursework will ask students to read, write, post messages, make videos, and work with classmates online. The 10th grade curriculum focuses on social, emotional, and behavioral habits that students can use to help live longer, happier lives. Topics include: School, Friends, Parents, Self-Image, Dating & Sex, and Addictions. The summer session of Health 10 covers all of the information studied in the regular semester class.

Come work on your skills with STC coaches, players, and former STC players. Learning the game early is something that all high school coaches agree gives you a greater chance for success down the road. Our All Star Baseball Camp is open to newcomers and “veterans” alike. Whether your slugger is learning what hand to wear the glove on, or is ready for the Major Leagues already, this is the camp for him. With focused skill and technique instruction on hitting, throwing, and catching, the campers make amazing gains over the course of the week. Each day starts and ends with a baseball game against players of similar age or ability. Campers need a glove and hat; cleats and bats are optional.

Saints Lacrosse Camp

In this camp from Youth Digital, kids learn professional Java programming as they design and build their own customized Minecraft server that they can share with friends. At the end of camp, kids walk away with a playable, shareable Minecraft server that they built from scratch. They’ll also be able to access the online version of the course after camp, including video tutorials, interactive quizzes, and new challenges. Kids will learn the basics of one of the most popular coding languages in the world as they modify real Java code to build their own Minecraft server. During camp, kids will master introductory computer programming concepts including methods and parameters, if-then statements, and more. They’ll also learn to use a pro-level Java development tool to build their server. Kids create their own Minecraft® server! For this camp, every student must have a copy of Minecraft for PC or Mac (not Pocket Edition) and bring their login credentials to camp.

This course fulfills St. Christopher’s Biblical Studies requirement for 10th grade. All boys must take this course, as well as an upper level religion course in their junior or senior year, to complete their religion credit and graduate. Taking Biblical Studies over the summer will allow 10th graders some free time during the coming year. Using the gospel of Mark as a lens, this course critically examines the life of Christ. The class will meet on campus the first week, June 20-24, and will include an online component from June 27-July 8. During that time, students will not be meeting on campus but will be using the internet to engage consistently in online course components (with a break in assignments around 4th of July weekend). The class will meet on campus again for the final week, July 11-15.

Basketball Session I Enrollment: Rising 1st-6th graders Dates: June 20-24 Time: 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Cost: $195 Instructor: Hamill Jones Hamill Jones and his staff will instruct campers both individually and in group/ team settings on the importance of practicing and playing with intensity. Beginners and experienced players welcome. We’ll have games and drills designed to give the athlete an opportunity to work on individual skills while improving their ability in team play. This camp will emphasize the core positions consistently used in High School wrestling. Campers will come away from camp having learned key fundamentals, while having fun and learning to compete. Enrollment: Rising 4th - 12th graders Dates: June 20-24 Time: 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Cost: $200 Instructor: Ross Gitomer The St. Christopher’s Elite wrestling camp is for the wrestler that has at least 1 year of experience in wrestling. We will focus on the St. Christopher’s wrestling system. We will focus on the details of all three positions: top, bottom, and neutral positions, as well as transition wrestling between all three positions. Some of the key positions we will cover is the turk position, near wrist positions, building bases, and hand fighting techniques to attacks. There will be lots of technique that the kids will use in middle, high school, and college wrestling. Also, the campers will benefit from the large amount of live wrestling and competition structure.

Junior Camp Description: (Rising 1st-5th graders):Young boys love to run and jump and play. Many of them also love to roll around and tussle. If you have such a boy, we would like to help him channel these natural inclinations into a love of the game of football, and to guide him in learning the fundamentals of how to run, throw, catch, kick, block, and tackle. Staffed by St. Christopher’s coaches and players, as well as current college football stars, the camp will guide youngsters toward an understanding of the basics. Campers will gain an understanding of football rules, terminology, and basic strategy. Each day will include individual instruction as well as competitive flag football games. Athletes of all experience levels are welcome and no equipment is required other than cleats/sneakers, athletic clothes and a willingness to play hard and have fun. Senior Camp Description: (Rising 6th-8th graders): St. Christopher’s football camps have a long tradition of bringing together knowledgeable professionals, veteran players and the next generation of up-and-comers with the common goal of honoring the game by helping each other improve. The senior camp targets three essential areas: positional skills, speed/agility/strength development, and competitive sportsmanship. Individual instruction and competitive games will assist each camper in improving offensive, defensive and special teams positional skills. This class will explore the world of “What If ” through Laura Numeroff ’s books If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, If You Give Moose a Muffin, If you Give a Pig a Pancake, and If you Give a Cat a Cupcake. Students will research facts about each animal, read, sequence events, and compare and contrast elements of the story. In addition, we’ll fine tune mathematical skills as we measure and mix-up cookies, cupcakes, pancakes, and muffins. Students will use what they’ve learned to create math story problems and write their own If You Give…story. Don’t miss out on the wonderful world of “What If ”.

Mad Science and NASA have collaborated up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in the NASA Space Academy camp. This is your chance to be a rocket scientist! Explore the science involved in rocket construction as you build your own rocket. Watch an amazing rocket launch as it soars to the sky. Use teamwork to complete an important space mission and build a model space station. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in our Mad Science planetary tour. This stellar camp is your rocket to the stars as you journey through the galaxy.

Students will build their confidence in speaking and boost their knowledge of grammar skills using a method unlike any they've ever experienced before. All classes are active and communicative, incorporating games, debates, teamwork and competition. Junior Camp Description: (Rising 1st-5th graders):Young boys love to run and jump and play. Many of them also love to roll around and tussle. If you have such a boy, we would like to help him channel these natural inclinations into a love of the game of football, and to guide him in learning the fundamentals of how to run, throw, catch, kick, block, and tackle. Staffed by St. Christopher’s coaches and players, as well as current college football stars, the camp will guide youngsters toward an understanding of the basics. Campers will gain an understanding of football rules, terminology, and basic strategy. Each day will include individual instruction as well as competitive flag football games. Athletes of all experience levels are welcome and no equipment is required other than cleats/sneakers, athletic clothes and a willingness to play hard and have fun. Senior Camp Description: (Rising 6th-8th graders): St. Christopher’s football camps have a long tradition of bringing together knowledgeable professionals, veteran players and the next generation of up-and-comers with the common goal of honoring the game by helping each other improve. The senior camp targets three essential areas: positional skills, speed/agility/strength development, and competitive sportsmanship. Individual instruction and competitive games will assist each camper in improving offensive, defensive and special teams positional skills. Exposure to an adaptable fitness curriculum, woven throughout each day’s schedule, will aid each camper’s development of the balanced coordination, dynamic acceleration, explosive power and overall conditioning demanded by competitive football. Campers will work on their game with coaches and players from throughout the Richmond area, forging an authentic understanding of sportsmanship through the camp’s unique blend of competitiveness and camaraderie. GAMEBUILDER VIDEO GAME CREATION CAMPS Active Learning Services’ video game creation camps offer programs that use our custom designed curriculum that provide campers to use their creativity as they learn to program a video game using step-by-step instructions while learning about the history of game design, design concepts, game styles and more! There are no prerequisites. All video creation programs are half-day programs that can be combined with an additional Active Learning Services offering to make a full day camp.

In this program, campers will build a game described as a “platform” game like Sonic or Mario. In this program, campers will have the option of learning how to program using a Microsoft Xbox controller! Children will create their own cool custom world and navigate inside this location. Within this world, campers will create tasks that need to be completed in order to progress to the next level. Some of those tasks include escaping a sewer maze, survival mode, outwitting rivals, creating decoys and collecting bonus items all while having fun and using their creativity. The use of a Xbox controller is optional and supplied by the camper.

Here’s the chance to get together with friends to work on your tennis skills. We placed the St. Christopher’s Tennis Academy at the beginning of the summer so you can take all that you learn with you and showcase your talents throughout the summer. The summer program is designed for beginners, novices and seasoned players. Participants will be grouped together by age and ability. If you are a beginner, you will be taught the proper fundamentals of the game with an emphasis on proper footwork and stroke production. We stress the importance of “no bad habits” so the improvement process will not be restricted. If you are a more experienced player, we identify your weaknesses and improve upon them to enable you to take your game to another level. Eight outdoor courts in our tennis facility, plus five indoor courts in Bolling Field House, make our facilities some of the best around. Come see for yourself! Our “beginners” program for kids between the ages of 5 and 8 years old is designed to introduce the fundamentals to children that have never played before. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore the ocean depths like Jacques Cousteau? If so, this is the camp for you! In this introductory course, you will learn basic safety guidelines and skills, practice snorkeling techniques, become familiar with dive equipment, find out what it’s like to breath underwater, and have fun swimming in the St. Christopher’s pool. Boys will be given the opportunity to work with local PADI dive instructor Jim McNeal with The Dive Shop. He will provide a “Discovery Day” in which boys will use scuba equipment to conduct fun exercises underwater. While this is not a scuba certification course, it offers a quick and easy introduction into what it’s like to explore underwater and can be applied to a PADI certification if you seek it in the future. You must be able to swim independently and comfortably in the water without a life preserver. Although you are not required to provide or buy equipment, if you have your own set of fins, snorkel, and mask, please bring them to the camp.

Let’s give your rising Kindergartner a boost of confidence and a kickstart to reading and math right before they head back to school! We will start to think and act like Kindergarten boys and girls by participating in circle time discussions, working in small cooperative groups on early reading, writing and math skills, listening to fascinating stories, and eating snack with friends. We’ll also have fun doing art projects and playing on the big playground each morning. Let’s get our Kindergarten feet wet in a Kindergarten classroom with a Kindergarten teacher and new Kindergarten friends!

Let’s get ready for 1st grade by having fun focusing on number concepts galore. Each day we will enjoy math themed literature and hands-on activities using a variety of manipulatives to strengthen our math skills. Get ready to crunch some numbers!
