Prayers - Morning

All: (From Psalm 51)

Open my lips, O Lord, and my mouth shall proclaim your praise.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from your presence and take not your holy Spirit from me.

Give me the joy of your saving help again and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

A Reading

Monday - Mark 1:16-20

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into

the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me, ” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for

people. ” At once they left their nets and followed him.

When he had gone a little farther, he saw James

(Continued on next page.)

son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called

them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Wednesday - Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

A period of silence may follow.

Prayers may be offered for ourselves and others.

All:

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,

thy kingdom come,

thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

(Continued on the next page.)

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Leader: Lord God, almighty and everlasting Father, you have brought us in safety to this new day: Preserve us with your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin, nor be overcome by adversity; and in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Night Prayers

from A New Zealand Prayer Book

Leader: Dear God,

thank you for all that is good,

for our creation and for our humanity,

for the stewardship you have given us of this

planet earth,

for the gifts of life and of one another,

for your love which is unbounded and eternal.

O thou, most holy and beloved,

my Companion, my Guide upon the way,

my bright evening star.

We repent the wrongs we have done:

Silence.

Leader: We have wounded your love.

People: O God, heal us.

Leader: We stumble in the darkness.

People: Light of the world transfigure us.

Leader: We forget that we are your home.

People: Spirit of God, dwell in us.

Leader:

Eternal Spirit, living God, in whom we live and move and have our being, all that we are, have been, and shall be is known to you, to the very secret of our hearts and all that rises to trouble us.

Living flame burn into us, cleansing wind, blow through us, fountain of water, well up within us, that we may love and praise in deed and in truth.

Leader:

Eternal Spirit, flow through our being and open our lips,

People: that our mouths may proclaim your praise.

Leader: Let us worship the God of love.

People: Alleluia, alleluia.

All: Psalm 121

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains, but where shall I find help?

From you alone, O God, does my help come, creator of the ever changing hills.

You will not let me stumble on the rough pathways, you care for me and watch over me without ceasing.

I am sure that the Guardian of my people neither slumbers nor sleeps.

The God of all nations keeps watch, like a shadow spread over me.

So the sun will not strike me by day, nor the moon by night.

You will defend me in the presence of evil, you will guard my life.

You will defend my going out and my coming in, this night and always.

Reading

Sunday - 2 Timothy 1:7

God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Monday - Jeremiah 14:9

You Lord are in the midst of us, and we are called by your name. Leave us not.

Tuesday - Luke 6:27–38

Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate

you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those

who abuse you. Do good and lend, expecting

nothing in return; for God is kind to the ungrateful

and the selfish.

(Continued on next page.)

Be merciful as your father is merciful. Judge not and you will not be judged. Condemn not and you

will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven.

Give and it will be given to you; for the measure you give will be the measure you receive.

All:

God be in my head, and in my understanding;

God be in my eyes, and in my looking;

God be in my mouth, and in my speaking;

God be in my heart, and in my thinking;

God be at my end, and at my departing.

Leader: Into your hands, O God,

I commend my spirit,

People: for you have redeemed me,

O God of truth and love.

Leader: Keep me, O God, as the apple of an eye;

People: hide me under the shadow of your wings.

Leader: Praise be to God,

I have lived to see this day.

People: God’s promise is fulfilled, and my duty done.

All:

At last you have given me peace, for I have seen with my own eyes

the salvation you have prepared for all nations –

a light to the world in its darkness, and the glory of your people Israel.

Glory be to God, sustaining, redeeming, sanctifying, as in the beginning, so now, and for ever. Amen.

All:

Eternal Spirit,

Earth-maker, Pain-bearer, Life-giver,

Source of all that is and that shall be,

Father and Mother of us all,

Loving God, in whom is heaven:

The hallowing of your name

echo through the universe!

The way of your justice

be followed by the peoples of the world!

Your heavenly will be done by all created beings!

Your commonwealth of peace and freedom sustain our hope and come on earth.

With the bread we need for today, feed us.

In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us.

In times of temptation and test, strengthen us.

From trials too great to endure, spare us.

From the grip of all that is evil, free us.

For you reign in the glory of the power that is love, now and for ever. Amen.

Leader: I will lie down in peace and take my rest,

People: for it is in God alone that I dwell unafraid.

Leader: Let us bless the Earth-maker, the Pain-

bearer, the Life-giver,

People: let us praise and exalt God above all for ever.

Leader: May God’s name be praised beyond the furthest star,

People: glorified and exalted above all for ever.

All: Be present, Spirit of God, within us, your dwelling place and home, that this house may be one where all darkness is penetrated by your light, all troubles calmed by your peace, all evil redeemed by your love, all pain transformed in your suffering, and all dying glorified in your risen life.

Amen.

People: The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia.

All:

Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy

Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord.

Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.

receive our prayer.

For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,

you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Presider: The Lord be with you.

People: And also with you.

Presider: Let us pray.

O God, you prepared your disciples for the coming of the Spirit through the teaching of your Son Jesus Christ: Make the hearts and minds of your servants ready to receive the blessing of the Holy Spirit, that they may be filled with the strength of his presence; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Psalm 116: 1-4, 12-19

1 I love the Lord, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy.

2 Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live.

3 The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave came over me; I was overcome by distress and sorrow.

4 Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Lord, save me!”

12 What shall I return to the Lord for all his goodness to me?

13 I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord.

14 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.

15 Precious in the sight of the Lord

is the death of his faithful servants.

16 Truly I am your servant, Lord; I serve you just as my mother did; you have freed me from my chains.

17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord.

18 I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people,

19 in the courts of the house of the Lord— in your midst, Jerusalem.

Praise the Lord.[a]

Celebrant: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Luke.

People: Glory to you, Lord Christ.

The Road to Emmaus - Luke 24:13-35

Now on that same day two of them were going to a

village called Emmaus, about seven miles from

Jerusalem, and talking with each other about all

these things that had happened. While they were

talking and discussing, Jesus himself came near

and went with them, but their eyes were kept from

recognizing him. And he said to them, “What are

you discussing with each other while you walk

along?” They stood still, looking sad. Then one of

them, whose name was Cleopas, answered him,

“Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem who does

not know the things that have taken place there in

these days?” He asked them, “What things?” They replied, “The things about Jesus of Nazareth, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, and how our chief priests and leaders handed him over to be condemned to death and crucified him. But we had hoped that he was the one to redeem Israel. Yes, and besides all this, it is now the third day since these things took place. Moreover, some women of our group astounded us. They were at the tomb early this morning, and when they did not find his body there they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive. Some of those who were with us went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see him. ” Then he said to them,

“Oh, how foolish you are and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared! Was it not necessary that the Messiah should suffer these things and then enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them the things about himself in all the scriptures.

As they came near the village to which they were going, he walked ahead as if he were going on. But they urged him strongly, saying, “Stay with us, because it is almost evening and the day is now nearly over.” So he went in to stay with them. When

he was at the table with them, he took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then

their eyes were opened, and they recognized him, and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?” That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem, and they found the eleven and their companions gathered

together. They were saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and he has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road and how he had been made known to them in the breaking of the bread.

Presider: The Gospel of the Lord

People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Presider: Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.

All:

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against you

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.

For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Presider: Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

All stand.

Presider: The peace of the Lord be always with you.

People: And also with you.

Presider: Let us with gladness present the offerings and oblations of our life and labor to God.

All stand

Presider: The Lord be with you

People: And also with you.

Presider: Lift up your hearts

People: We lift them to the Lord.

Presider: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

People: It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Presider:

We praise you and we bless you, holy and gracious God, source of life abundant. From before time you made ready the creation. Your Spirit moved over the deep and brought all things into being:sun, moon, and stars; earth, winds, and waters; and every living thing. You made us in your image, and taught us to walk in your ways. But we rebelled against you, and wandered far away; and yet, as a mother cares for her children, you would not forget us.

Time and again you called us to live in the fullness of your love. And so this day we join with Saints and Angels in the chorus of praise that rings through eternity, lifting our voices to magnify you as we say:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Presider:

Glory and honor and praise to you, holy and living

God. To deliver us from the power of sin and death and to reveal the riches of your grace, you looked

with favor upon Mary, your willing servant, that she might conceive and bear a son, Jesus the holy child of God.

Living among us, Jesus loved us. He broke bread with outcasts and sinners, healed the sick, and proclaimed good news to the poor. He yearned to draw all the world to himself yet we were heedless of his call to walk in love. Then, the time came for him to complete upon the cross the sacrifice of his life, and to be glorified by you.

On the night before he died for us, Jesus was at table with his friends. He took bread, gave thanks to you, broke it, and gave it to them, and said:

“Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. ”

As supper was ending, Jesus took the cup of wine.

Again, he gave thanks to you, gave it to them, and said: “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me. ”

Now gathered at your table, O God of all creation, and remembering Christ, crucified and risen, who was and is and is to come, we offer to you our gifts of bread and wine, and ourselves, a living sacrifice.

Pour out your Spirit upon these gifts that they may

be the Body and Blood of Christ. Breathe your Spirit

over the whole earth and make us your new creation,

the Body of Christ given for the world you have made.

In the fullness of time bring us, with all your saints, from every tribe and language and people and nation, to feast at the banquet prepared from the foundation of the world.

Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, to you be honor, glory, and praise, for ever and ever. Amen.

And now, as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say,

All:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Presider: We break this bread to share in the

Body of Christ.

People: We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread.

The People come forward to receive Communion If you do not wish to receive Communion, you can cross your arms in front of your chest and receive a blessing

All:

God of abundance, you have fed us with the bread of life and cup of salvation; you have united us with Christ and one another; And you have made us one with all your people in heaven and on earth. Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit, that we

may proclaim your redeeming love to the world and continue for ever in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen.

Presider:

The Wisdom of God, the Love of God, and the

Grace of God strengthen you to be Christ’s hand and heart in this world, in the name of the Holy

Trinity. Amen.

Presider: Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

People: Thanks be to God.
