KAYLA AND MATT In front of a stellar groups of friends and family, on a brilliant afternoon in mid August, Kayla and Matt professed their love and became man and wife. The outdoor ceremony at Brasada Ranch, perched on the bluff overlooking the breathtaking view of the Cascade range to the west, reflected the spirit and freshness of both the bride and groom. Dominating the color scheme was the crisp, pastel yellow of the bridesmaid dresses. Corresponding bouquets of white, pink and bold yellow complemented the simplicity of the apparel. The placid white on white table settings came alive with floral arrangements that mirrored the bouquets. After dinner, the enthusiastic guests were encouraged to make their own selections at the ever popular “cupcake tree.

MICKELLE AND AARON On the seventh day of the seventh month Mickelle and Aaron exchanged their wedding vows of love and fidelity beside the lake at The Broken Top Club in Bend, Oregon. The rising heat mirrored the intensity of the jubilation of all in attendance. The brides vintage, lace adorned gown reflected the simplistic elegance of the affair. Bright pink peonies in cobalt blue glass vases adorned each table setting, while bouquets mixed with pink peonies, white roses accented by fire yellow roses set the tone against the jeweled royal blue bridesmaids dresses. The outdoor patio table setting complemented the casual elegance of the entrie affair. The pure white wedding cake was decorated with tiered bands of icing mirroring the detail on the brides dress.

NAOMI AND CHAD On an amazing day in early September, Naomi and Chad pledged their love for each other amid the dazzling, high desert landscape of Pronghorn Golf Club. The earthy atmosphere of the location was brought to life with a bold infusion of pink complemented by hot powerful shades of purple and orange. Strings of hand made colored origami cranes, made by the family of the bride, hung from the simplistic wooden wedding arch. Bridesmaids were radiant in their fresh pink gowns. The bridal procession was set in motion by the appearance of the ever so precious flower girl, dressed to the hilt in her pink and white tutu. The decorations and unique favors were enhanced with careful details banded in hot pinks and orange to further fortifying the color scheme.

BEAUTY Written by: Angela Runk, Owner/Stylist, Artisry by Angela
Without a doubt, one of the most memorable events in every woman’s life is her wedding day. Consequently, expectations are high. Brides want to look and feel amazing. This is the perfect time for a little “pampering.” A professional bridal makeup artist or hairstylist has the knowledge and talent to add visual dazzle and elegance to the look of the entire bridal party. What’s even better is that they can provide this service in a stress free and fun atmosphere. To accomplish their goal, they should be fully aware of the specific needs, requirements and expectations of their bride. Bridal hair and

makeup should be simple and elegant.. It should not compete with the bride’s dress. Makeup should reflect the same simplicity while being fresh and non-austere. It should complement her hairstyle and be subtle, soft and flawless. It is important to set up a consultation with your stylist at least a few weeks prior to your event. This consultation should outline all the details of your look. Keep in mind, personality can make all the difference when stress gets high. Make your choice wisely, and I’m confident that every photo of your special day will reflect the perfect, “glow of elegance”.

GO CLASSIC: One very retro way to personalize and add a touch of style to your event is to utilize classic cars from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. This might be the perfect way to bolster your design theme and ride in style at the same time!

P E R S O N A L I Z AT I O N : Nothing says thank you better than something monogrammed. However, that used to mean apparel. Try your own favorite microbrew with a personalized wall bottle opener. There’s no doubt it will get used!

BE DIFFERENT: Sometimes it’s important to give a gift that will make a lasting mark. How about a monogrammed steak brander. This might also come in handy in case your partner is the wondering type!
3
SPECIAL FRIENDS: It seems as though at least 75% of Central Oregonians have furry friends. Don’t leave out your genuine, “best friend.” Make sure to plan enough bows, flowers and ribbons to decorate Fido’s personal wedding collar.

GO HOT: One of the hottest trends this past year was matching foot wear. Even in winter it can be very cool to deck out your wedding party in matching colored, swede boots. FAR OUT!
GO SWEET: One of the most popular attractions at receptions has been the “candy table.” It’s a special occasion. Give everyone a chance to overindulge. Does anyone remember these rolled pages of “sweet sugar dots”? YUM!

KIDS OUTFITS: Children are a vital part of any wedding ceremony and receptions. Consider unique and colorful outfits that will be congruent with your design concept. It can make it fun for the kids as well as very aesthetically appealing.
8
VINTAGE: The latest trend in wedding decor is easily enhanced through the utilization of “old world china.” Whether ornately detailed white on white or flowered and hand painted styles, all create a refreshing, down home feel.
9
LIVE CENTERPIECES: This one not only provided some great visual stimuli on the tables, but also served as a unique gift for guests. Live Fish! It also helped all those parents in attendance who’s kids have been begging for a pet.

HUMOR: It never hurts to go for the “last laugh.” Wedding favors can not only be functional, but can also provide comic relief as well as some pretty outrageous “photo ops.”

VIDEOGRAPHY
IMMORTALIZE THOSE MAGIC MOMENTS
All visual images are singular memories in time that coincide harmoniously with specific objects, actions, people or emotions. Collectively, those visual snippets form the scrapbook of our memories. They evoke emotions within us that help us to define our experiences. Moreover, with the passing of time, they also assist us in bringing the past into the present. So why is that so important? Precisely, because those images often provide the answers to poignant questions or the missing link that connects old experiences with inquisitive new hearts and minds. So what does this information have to do with your wedding or event? Specifically, there is no better way to document the experience of your day than through videography. While still photography isolates each moment in time in two dimensions, videography adds the dimensions of sound and motion. That means you can hear grandma’s laughter as she sways, ever so fluidly, to the sultry melody of the “macarena”. You can also hear and see personal testimonials created live and on the spot for you both. It’s a magical gift that isolates time in a capsule that is readily available at your fingertips to view and relive at your beckoned call. Moreover, it’s a fabulous gift to friends and family to honor them for their presence at your event or those who may not have been able to share the moment with you. Most important for future reference, you will also have visual proof that you have danced with your wife! At least once!

“Personal Expression”
11
is the hottest dynamic in wedding
Apparel
2
Something has erupted in the wedding apparel business. Though the traditional black & white look is still very much in vogue; a new generation of brides and grooms have burst onto the nuptial scene with a much different twist on attire. “Personal Expression” is the name of the game. That means... making a statement is the number one goal. It’s pretty exciting to see some of the incredible details that have come to us via our fabulous 2013 photographers. Let’s take a look at both sides of the isle. FOR BRIDES.... Nothing could ever deter the importance of the bridal gown. It’s vision is emblazoned in every woman’s mind from the time she first hears the “Cinderella story.” From that moment on, the dream magnifies exponentially right up to the day she sets out to search for her gown. Every wedding gown is a direct reflection of a brides personal dream. Every detail from bodice to drape and lace to beads is a mirror of her personality and self image. However, there is still much room for personal expression. One of the easiest ways is through foot wear. That’s right... every woman’s favorite excuse for excessive spending. Color, sequins, rhinestones, feathers, jewels, textures..... nothing is too over the top. In some cases it’s more the specific style than the details. How about, matching colored flip-flops, boots or sandals. Be daring and step outside the box! Weddings are designed to be once in a lifetime. Consequently, make it a day worth remembering! 3

FOR GROOMS.... the choices are little less aesthetic in nature. Guys tend to be less interested in style and more interested in “statement.” The traditional choice of tuxedo with select colored tie, vest, or cummerbund still leads the pack in apparel choices. However, in recent year’s we have noticed an increase in grooms choosing a standard tailored suit that complements the wedding color scheme. The good news is, this look can be dressed UP for more sophisticated events, and DOWN for those that are more casual. Whether you choose a tux or suit, the “personal statement” comes in the details. This is your wedding day and a time to step that look up a notch. One of the latest rages is outrageous matching “argyle sox.” Great Scott! If your theme is more “vintage,” consider unique matching suspenders, hats or profound cuff links. Last year’s big trend was, “crazy” foot wear. How about matching boots, flip-flops, sneakers or deck shoes. Pastel plaid vests or ties are visually exciting and can freshen up a casual summer event. While rich, jewel tone plaids with black make a powerful statement for a winter or holiday celebration. I know guys... way too many choices. No matter how you get there... make it FUN!

MAKING YOUR VISION A REALITY One of the first decisions every new engaged bride faces is defining a color scheme for her celebration. Color brings life and dictates emotion. Just about every other detail in the overall visual experience of your event revolves around it. Ironically, the lack of color can be equally stimulating to the eye. Monochromatic tones like black and gray generally impart a more formal or traditional ambience. In total contrast, the tonal simplicity of all white conveys an air of sophistication and elegance. Once the dominant emotion of the overall celebration is conveyed, it’s quite easy to create visual excitement by augmenting the scheme with any rich color. With the white of the bridal gown being the nucleus for every wedding scheme, the obvious first choice for implementing the complementary colors in the scheme falls first to the bridesmaid dresses. Here’s where the fun starts. There is no limitation to the palette of colors, styles or textures that are available to you. This is where creativity and personal expression take the stage. Keep in mind... there are NO RULES! Whatever feels good to you is absolutely perfect! Once you decide on the primary palette, implementing them into select aspects of your design experience will be equally enjoyable. Bouquets are prime targets for colorful expression. You can find floral blossoms in just about any color in the spectrum. Don’t limit yourself to only fresh flowers. Artificial stems, beads, jewelry and pertinent novelty items make great additions to arrangements. The sky is the limit and the combinations are infinite. Colored tablecloths or napkins can add life to the dining atmosphere. Unique customized elements can infuse color into your table decorations and double as favors for your guests to enjoy. Getting the right blend of colors and elements might take some time. It never hurts to get some professional help from industry consultants. They make a living creating unique schemes and can save you tons of time. They can also make the process much easier and enjoyable for you by working with trusted vendors and introducing you to seasoned professionals. No matter what your choices, concentrate on what feels good to you. This is your day. Make it special!

Flowers Searching for the perfect floral complement to produce the arrangements that coincide with the vision in your head can be a difficult endeavor. The first problem is in successfully communicating the concept to the professional. Colors, textures, theme, style, personal details and time of year will all be factors necessary to consider in creating the appropriate design palette for the bouquets and arrangements. If budget is a major consideration, keep in mind that utilizing local flowers will be much cheaper than having to ship stems from afar. That also means your color palette might be a bit limited. Sunflowers or bright blue iris’s might be a bit hard to come by in Central Oregon in January or February. The best way to shorten the process and reduce your stress level is to utilize the services of a local floral professional. They

have the industry knowledge that can save you hours of time and frustration. Moreover, they are masters at the art of juxtaposing colors, shapes and textures into magical arrangements of aromatic and visual beauty. Before deciding on the perfect florist for you, interview several to see which one not only can provide you with the product you are looking for, but also feels best to work with. Carefully review their promotional photos. Ask a lot of questions and most important, don’t evade the issue of price! Once you have found a comfortable match, secure them with a deposit and prepare for the fun to begin. 1. 2. 3. 4.

PHOTOGRAPHY From the beginning of time, man has made valiant attempts to document his existence through the use of visual images. Whether in etchings on cave walls, papyrus drawings or lavish murals in the pyramids and temples of the ancients, homo sapiens have always found a way to creatively express their humanity and illustrate their life experiences for future generations to share. With the passing of time, each new advancement provided us with images that were more definitive and realistic. In the early 1800’s a French scholar first found a way to capture images by projecting light onto a chemically treated metal plate. This wonder was the first recorded “Photograph”. Today’s camera’s are greatly improved from the giant “Box Cameras” of the early 1900’s. Not to mention, digital technology has virtually replaced the chemical film aspect of development and production. Nevertheless, most of us still remember the early days of total, “black & white” photography. Successful professionals of that period were masters of contrast and light. Images were masterful compilations of gradients of black, white and shades of grey. Simplistic and elegant. The process from start to finish was time consuming and laborious. Not to mention, much of the creative effects were achieved through the development process Today, much of that creative process is accomplished on the fly in a millisecond, by making specific selections electronically. Even basic composition can be electronically manipulated with the stroke of a key. Nevertheless, the genius still remains within the eye of the professional photographer. Don’t think for a minute that technology has made it a “slam dunk” for anyone with a camera phone to produce artistic masterpieces. Technology is moving so fast that today’s professional photographers are in a constant educational evolution. Moreover, today’s professionals have an even larger palette of creative tools from which to pick and choose to arrive at their finished products. More tools... more opportunity for creative expression... more unique and amazing photographs.

Locations
are the cornerstone of every event.
Central Oregon offers a myriad of diverse and awesome site opportunities.
Considering there are over 2000 weddings staged in Central Oregon each year, one of the most critical decisions to make in planning your event is to select a location. There is no doubt that we on the high desert are blessed with a landscape that is abounding in magical sites. Not to mention the wealth of dynamic resorts, golf facilities, classic hotels, conventions facilities and private homes. The choices are quite daunting. However, the prime locations are all in high demand, especially during the summer months. This means, the early bird gets the LOCATION! As soon as you have decided on a date, begin interviewing perspective locations. There is much to choose from and a personal visit is the absolute best way to get a feel for the property. It also gives you the opportunity to meet directly with the folks in charge and get a feel for how you might work together. Planning a wedding is a long and complicated process. Knowing that your location is secure will give you the peace of mind to tackle the balance of issues that are sure to come up. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Disc Jockey’s Master of Ceremonies / Event Director... When it comes to creating a party, there’s no one better for the job than a talented DJ. The true professionals are master’s at finding and selecting music that will connect with their audience and get them up on their feet and on the dance floor. Creating energy is their primary forte. In addition, the most successful DJ’s are also masters of timing, coordination and event sequence management. Every event, whether a wedding reception or a corporate banquet, is a compilation of singular happenings, amalgamated together to produce a memorable moment in time. It’s the absence of “dead air” that makes the difference. The best of the best not only play the perfect song at the absolute perfect time, but they also control the pace and flow of the entire evening. They know exactly when to fill voids in energy as well as when to temper insanity. It’s not exactly something cousin Fred can do with his home stereo and an ipod! It requires year’s of on the job knowledge and experience. So if you’re looking for the perfect catalyst to take your event from average to outrageous... consider a professional DJ. However, always do your homework. Check references and ask a lot of questions. Once you find the perfect professional just prepare to.... ROCK THE NIGHT AWAY!

Live Entertainment Stepping your event up a notch! Written by: Michael John, National Entertainer, Central Oregon Director, Stargroup Entertainment & Events
If your searching for a way to elevate your private party, wedding ceremony or reception up a few notches, live entertainment might be just what you are looking for. To add a spark of sophistication to your ceremony consider a string quartet, flutist or classical pianist. The simplistic elegance of classical music can be the perfect complement to a formal or casual affair. Moreover, if your looking to really dazzle your guests, add a professional vocalist to mix. The vibrance and romance of live vocals can be a real show stopper. Especially, when she delivers a most sensitive rendition of “Daddy’s Little Girl,” during the ceremony. That one always gets me! So the stress of making it to the church on time and through the ceremony without collapsing is over. It’s time to let your hair down. After all the pomp and circumstance, food, cake, champagne and wine, there is no better way to put the “icing on the cake” than to rock the night away to the energy of a live band. No matter what your choice in music, this is an opportunity to bring all the guests present together in a wild display of enthusiasm and joy. It’s a know fact that the only time some folks make it to the dance floor is at weddings. For some guys... it’s the ONLY time they make it to the dance floor....PERIOD! That’s right girls, this may be your one opportunity to get him out there on both slow... and fast songs and have it documented. It’s important to mention that not everyone is a die hard fan of “GANGSTER RAP”. If you want your guests to stay and participate it’s imperative that the entertainment you provide is acceptable and enjoyable across age barriers. No matter what choices you end up with, always require promotional information, audio and references from the act well in advance. Professional booking agents are a prime resource for this information. They can also save oodles of time and money. Though most groups now a days have websites that you can view, video can be very manipulated. Consequently, if at all possible, try to catch the act in a live setting before you make a decision. The last thing you want to happen is to find out the day of your reception that the showband you thought you booked changed 6 out of the 8 individuals in the band and are now focusing on “Japanese geisha swing music!” Most of all, make the day your own and....... HAVE FUN!

Decorations
COLOR....The single most definitive factor in decor.
It’s difficult to settle on one specific aspect of decorating that is dominant for 2013. Vintage still ranks high on the trends list. Rustic details of wood, leather and depression glass combined with tasteful country china and simplistic table settings take us back to a simpler time and create a warm, inviting and down home atmosphere. While simplicity is key aspect for Vintage themes, let us not overlook the dynamic effect color can have on a decor. Whether in chairs, linens, centerpieces, floral arrangements, novelty items or lighting effects, color can provide the “WOW that can be the deciding

factor between blasé and flamboyant! The real trick lies in the chosen color scheme and the adaptation of the colors. Soft pastels of gray, violet or sea foam green with white can produce an upscale yet not ostentatious atmosphere. Contrasting deeper shades of purple, turquoise, orange or red can add power and “punch” to the visual ensemble. Monochromatic palettes can produce a dynamic effect. Black & White being the most popular. Consider adding a dominant colored geometric or graphic image like polka dots or butterflies to add an element of pizazz! In every case, always assess your chosen location and how it might clash with or complement your scheme. Decisions! Decisions! Decisions! How do you come up with the perfect decor scheme for your event or reception? Don’t dismay! It’s common to be a bit overwhelmed. If you find yourself struggling with aesthetic decisions, local event rental companies can be a fabulous resource for products, color selections, furniture, lighting, china, glassware, stem ware, vases and overall design. They make their living creating exciting and appealing spaces. They also have a wealth of experience in what works and doesn’t work. Their knowledge is paramount in making the vision of your event a reality. In short, they

What’s the CAKESbest dessert to CUPCAKESsatisfy your guests? There is no question that “dessert” is a major aspect of every wedding reception. Many a marriage started on shaky ground after the traditional cutting of the cake ended up in the more sensational, ‘wearing of the cake.” It’s the absolute ‘FIRST” public trust challenge faced by each and every new married couple. Will he or she attempt to finger paint luscious, moist angel food cake and sweet succulent icing all over the beautiful countenance of their respective partner? Nevertheless, there are more challenging questions to ask. What’s the best dessert to complement your chosen entree? Do you want a traditional wedding cake or something more personalized? Do you want both a brides’ cake and a grooms’ cake? Will the chosen cake satisfy the sweet craving of all your guests? Is the cake going to be an entertainment element in the overall event time line or just dessert? Well now that you’re totally overwhelmed with questions that never crossed your mind, let’s first analyze your overall wedding concept. Is this event going to be sophisticated and formal or spontaneous and casual? If sophistication and elegance is what you are hoping to achieve, a traditional tiered ornately decorated cake might be what your are looking for. On the other hand, if the “chicken dance” and “mosh pits” are more your style, you might be happier with a work of culinary art that reflects your mutual spontaneity and love for life. In either case, the most important aspect is finding the common ground between, your individual personalities and your wedding theme. Once you define what’s important to your both, the choices get a bit easier. However, only just a bit! Today’s bakers are nothing short of culinary artists. They are a compilation of the sculptural proficiency of Raphael and the artistic prowess of Da Vinci. They have the ability to create virtually anything you can imagine! I know that sounds a little over the top, but it is actually very true! Once you decide on theme, program importance and emotional impact the next big decision is to con-

sider your guests desires. Is it going to be a small, intimate and primarily adult soirée, or a full family blow out with oodles of kids, dogs and the entire barnyard. If the later is closer to your hopes for your special day, considering offering a full spread of sweet treats that will appeal to all ages might be a great idea. Cupcake trees are all the rage and offer excitement and spontaneous sampling to “sweet-tooths” of all ages. There is a certain childlike “magic” in the decision of selecting your own personal dessert treat. They also provide a broad range of opportunities for personalization, which can further enhance your chosen theme or style. Moreover, many of us no matter what our age, require a minimal amount of sweet bits just to get us through the day. A few junior mints, hershey kisses or m&m’s just makes life a bit more enjoyable. Not to mention filling that all important urge for “something sweet, NOW!” To satisfy those poor souls who suffer from this childish, yet wonderful malady, you might consider a table dedicated to succulent sweet morsels that can be pilfered on the fly. M&M’s, rock candy, mints, truffles, chocolates, hard candy, taffy, fudge, brownies,.... anything that feels good and makes the experience of the reception more personal, enjoyable and magically special for you and your guests. The most important aspect of the selection process is to make every choice your own! These are memories that will last a lifetime. Each smile produced represents a memory gift that you give to each person in attendance. So be creative and have some fun with it. Good luck and remember, marrying a dentist might not be a bad idea either!

Catering
Reduce your personal stress level. Hire a professional.
No matter what the event, there is always some complement of food that is offered. From a simple cocktail party, to a lavish dinner soirée, food is the unifying element around which people gather and communicate. Unfortunately, getting from the idea to the finished product can be difficult. Not only is it difficult to create an appropriate menu to match your gathering, it is also extremely daunting to prepare and present the finished product cooked to perfection and on time. This is where the knowledge and experience of a professional catering company becomes invaluable. I realize you are an accomplished cook with a better than average palette, but have you ever prepared “Beef Wellington” for 200 guests? They have! Based on your budget and your culinary needs, they can offer a range of menu options for you to choose from. They have the ways and means to ensure that every item selected is delivered to your table on time and cooked to perfection. When choosing a caterer, remember to always set up personal interviews and always request a TASTING. Once you make your decision, get all the details and time line in writing along with a signed contract. Now, just sit back and be dazzled! 1

When it comes to special occasions, weddings rank high on the list. The ritual, the pageantry and the romance all combine together to create a gathering that touches the hearts of all ages and demands participation. If you’ve ever been involved in planning a wedding or any event, you know well that due to the immense amount of decisions that need to be made, stress levels often get quite high. What’s even worse is that the levels of anxiety seem to peak precisely on “game day,” or in your case..... your wedding day! The day of your celebration should be not only enjoyable, but also, “magical.” You’ve been dreaming of this day since you first saw the horse drawn carriage casually trundle down the cobblestone street carrying the radiant Cinderella and her Prince. Now, here you are with your own Prince in the midst of making your own fantasy a reality! There is no question that personalized transportation is a luxury. That’s what makes it so special. The visual impact of a stretch limousine, antique roadster or old world trolley is only one part of the magic. Though comfort is a prime factor in deciding on hiring transportation,

convenience is even more essential. Imagine having your own private coach at your beckoned call. That means being shuttled in comfort and style to every aspect of your special celebration. To and from the rehearsal and dinner... the late night martini bar... the wedding morning hair and nail appointments, and of course the church and reception. What’s even better is that you can provide that same service for those in your wedding party and even special relatives or guests. Amazingly enough, personalized transportation is available locally for as many as 30 people at a time. That’s a party in itself. ROAD TRIP! With time line being a vital factor on the wedding day, having a professional driver ensures the schedule will be met efficiently. Eliminating this factor alone from your “day of” itinerary will greatly ease your stress level while providing an added sense of “panache” to your celebration. Don’t be afraid to propose something “over the top.” These professionals are in the business of making memories. If it’s covered by their insurance... they will probably find a way to make it happen. Most of all... It’s your day! Make it “MAGIC”!
