We are once again thrilled to have the opportunity to present you, the latest and greatest trends, ideas and the means to access the best local professionals in the business of staging outrageous weddings and events. Over the last several years we added targeted articles focusing on specific aspects of wedding and event production. In these spreads we attempt to not only offer valuable topical information, but also provide exposure to our respective advertisers. This years primary focus is on COLOR and how it impacts certain elements of event design and production. Numerous spreads have associated color pallet information to assist you in making your own design decisions. On pages 8-9 we have illustrated 16 ways to Infuse Color into Any Event. We hope that something in this feature will tap your creative juices and add pizazz to your wedding or event. Secondly, we have decided to initiate a ‘perennial feature” to Celebrations magazine. Through the lens of our advertising photographers, each year we have had front row seats to hundreds of incredible weddings. Annually, this feature spread will highlight several “real Central Oregon weddings” from the previous year. It is our goal to illustrate the extreme high calibre of professional skill and artistry that is available here on the High Desert by bringing actual events to the forefront. Respectively, we have also been privy to some amazingly exquisite bride photos. In our last feature we have created a pictorial spread highlighting some of last years’ most spectacular brides. Considering the daunting challenges we have all faced this past year, we especially want to thank all our advertisers for there continued allegiance. We believe this publication to be a testament to their talents, dreams and perseverance. We hope you value our efforts to showcase your talents, as much as we value your support.

Reality Check! An Industry Overview for 2010 It is difficult to talk about trends and the future of the wedding industry without recognizing how the recent economy has universally affected the planning process. The present state of the economy is bringing the necessity of efficient money management back into focus. Whether you are on a limited budget, or just find yourselves re-prioritizing how you spend your money, comparative price shopping will help you secure the items that are most important to you. Celebrations Wedding & Event Resource Guide is here to help you through the myriad of decisions necessary to plan the wedding of your dreams. It is our hope that some of the information we provide here in will assist you in staying on budget as well as spending wisely. Trends for 2010 consistently reflect personal expression. What makes you unique as a couple? Do you have special place, a dominant feeling, a charismatic mood, or a favorite color? These elements will mirror your decisions on venue, decorations, food and entertainment. They will essentially define the overall tone of your event. Once defined, you can begin to assess your desires against your available finances. This may mean your lavish ballroom reception has taken a back seat to a casual and festive backyard BBQ. Don’t despair! It’s far better to create an exceptional, people friendly event within a set budget, than to begin your married lives in major debt! Considering the challenges we are all facing globally, environmental responsibility, and recycling have grown in acceptance. Utilizing “green” services, ecofriendly transportation, or items from recycled products will increase your “green footprint” and reduce your disposable waste. When planning your event, consider table decorations and gifts that are reusable or eco-sensitive. Items such as seeds, live plants and candles can be utilized appropriately and assimilated into the environment. There is no question that the primary focus of any wedding is the bride and groom. Nevertheless, being civically responsible, and socially aware can make a Photo by: studio404photography.com difference in ways that contribute to us all. In recent years, many Central Oregon wedding couples have opted to have guests contribute to specific charities in leu of gifts. Others have donated leftover food to shelters and recycled wedding flowers to hospice patients. In each case the reward is in the giving....knowing we have contributed to someone else and made their day a bit brighter. Joy is a sensation that changes everything! GIVE SOMETHING BACK! Through simple acts of kindness and thoughtfulness, you have the opportunity to take the ecstasy of your special day and spread it far beyond your reach. This is your chance to make your special day both memorable and meaningful!

FRUIT ACCENTS: Fruits and vegetables are ripe with vibrant colors. Try utilizing them in table arrangements and as color accents to enhance your overall design theme. They offer a great bang for the buck and also serve as great snacks later!
STEP OUT: A popular trend in the last couple of years has been for brides to divert from the traditional white satin pumps and “step it up a notch” with bright, bold, retro colored footwear. It’s a true leap of faith.
MIXED TONES: Consider bucking the system and outfitting your bridesmaids in multiple colored dresses. The result can be very striking and quite dynamic as seen here with the incorporation of analogous jewel tones of royal blue, lime green and purple.
GO BOLD: One of the easiest ways to brighten up any wedding and create visual excitement is to select bold, vibrant fabrics for your bridesmaid dresses or groomsmen suits. Don’t be afraid to be different. BOLD IS BEAUTIFUL!
6 Photo by: Tullis Photography
Celebrations Wedding & Event Resource Guide | www.centraloregonevents.net
ACCESSORIES: Sometimes a simple contrasting element can create a dynamic statement. This technique can be very powerful and often achieved with minimal cost. Consider sashes, hats, handbags, gloves, shoes, shawls or jewelry.
12
7
GO CLASSIC: One very retro way to splash some bold color into your event is to utilize classic cars in vivid solid shades from the 50’s and 60’s. This might be the perfect way to bolster your design theme and ride in style at the same time!

BASIC BLACK: For a sophisticated look, nothing is better than the traditional black and white wedding. Though actually a non-color, black can be extremely powerful when contrasted with virtually any chosen primary or pastel color.
13
BE DIFFERENT: Sometimes it’s important to just be yourself! Step it up a bit with a dynamic pair of cowboy boots or wild shoes. Book your favorite country band for the reception and just plain... “stomp it up”!
BLOSSOMS: Consider selecting a specific type or color of floral blossom to dominate all your design elements. Bouquets, boutonnieres, cakes, ceremony arrangements, center pieces and gifts. This monochromatic look can be exceptionally elegant .
10
GO HOT: Flowers are certainly one of the most common ways to induce color! Nevertheless, try going over the top and mixing “hot” shades of pink, fusia, orange and yellow to create arrangements that will certainly stand out in the crowd.
11
GO NATURAL: Live blossoms and petals can add powerful color and texture to accent items or table settings. Here fabulous lime green flowers tied with dazzling violet and blue satin ribbons personalize the wedding party gifts.

BOLD CHINA: Today, china and charger plates can be found in a myriad of vivid colors and textures. From the classic round bone china to contemporary colored square glass, the design possibilities are infinite and can be extremely powerful.
15
FOOD: Great chefs can create delicious and striking food entrées. Sauces, vegetables and garnishes can offer a multitude of color possibilities especially on stark white china. Food can be for both the stomach and the eyes. Get creative!

KIDS OUTFITS: Children are a vital part of any wedding ceremony and receptions. Consider unique and colorful outfits that will be congruent with your design concept. It can make it fun for the kids as well as very aesthetically appealing.

GO SIMPLISTIC: One of the items taking up the most space at the ceremony will be the chairs. Consider colored chair covers or simply tying satin or chiffon cascading ribbons around the backs of the chairs. Simple, but Striking!

ARE THE CREATIVE PALLET TO PERSONALIZING YOUR EVENT
No matter what the event, from the simplest private party to the most elaborate wedding, decorations are the key ingredient in creating the desired atmosphere to capture your guests. Your first requirement is to decide on the basic tone of the event. Subtle.. Sophisticated... Boisterous... Bold... Whimsical...Passionate? In essence, what do you want to be the overwhelming experience of the event. Once this tone is decided, the next step in the process is to develop a congruent color pallet.
These combinations of shades should reflect the overall emo-
tional atmosphere and dominate the design scheme. From this point on, it’s totally up to your imagination and your budget. With the help of a talented coordinator/designer and a quality rental professional your can set the perfect stage to capture your theme and dazzle your guests!

2009 FEATURE WEDDINGS Each year for the last three years we have targeted one specific aspect of our local event industry and created a spread to highlight the local professionals in that genre. This year, we have decided to institute a perennial spread that will each year document actual weddings or celebrations that occurred in Central Oregon within the last 12 months. Considering the main focus of this year’s magazine is “color”, we have chosen four weddings with unique and distinctly different pallets. Vibrant yellow juxtaposes over pewter gray forms the basic pallet for this late July wedding. The semi formal, more casual look is exemplified by the knee length bridesmaid dresses and the jacket-less groom. Rich pewter and gray accents abound in the grooms attire, table cloths, and in the use of birch bark and limbs. A striking white on white, bride bouquet with flowing pheasant feathers further accentuates the pallet and makes for an exceptionally unique and dynamic floral presentation.

Officiants
The wedding ceremony is the ritual that initiates every marriage. You may have a beloved family pastor you have always dreamed would officiate at your wedding service. Others who have no defined religious affiliation may choose a non-denominational minister to officiate at the ceremony and institute the all important vows. Many religious denominations have set verbiage and defined ceremonies for marriage. In those cases there is not much room for creativity, One advantage to secular services is your ability to write your own vows. In either case, the presiding officiant’s main contribution will not only to be the legal witness to the action, but more importantly to impart bits of wisdom regarding the responsibilities and expectations of the respective bride and groom. His or her ability to impart information with spiritual acuity, journalistic creativity and humor will make the difference in each and every persons involvement in and memory of the ceremony. Most important, choose someone who “touches you.” That means you’re looking for a person who has an eye on life, and a passion for honesty, integrity and love. If he or she can meet those requirements, they will undoubtedly be the perfect choice for you and your new partner. May the force be with you!

Food stimulates the taste buds, but color in food excites the brain and enhances the dining experience. Individual menu choices as well as presentations can creatively enhance a design theme while adding to the overall pleasure and continuity of an event.

To satisfy the pallet, there is no doubt that taste is the primary factor. However, color in food stimulates the senses and enhances the overall dining experience. Bright red tomato bruchetta with dollops of soft goat cheese on crisp crustini looks much more appetizing than a vienna sausage on a toothpick. Your menu selections can also enhance the design concept of your event by accentuating colors complementary to your chosen scheme. This is where an experienced chef is invaluable. They have the knowledge and creative genius to bring your wildest ideas to fruition. No matter what your choices, never accept menu items without an actual tasting. Most important... trust the professionals and your reception culinary experience will be truly unforgettable!

creations. The most modern dresses are likely to have details that control the fabric and shape it to the body. Combinations of formal and casual components can make for a personal and dynamic statement. In many cases, sophisticated men’s dress suits are replacing the traditional tuxedo. Not only is it a great look, but it adds a very utilitarian piece of clothing to each man’s wardrobe. We’ve even seen wedding groomsmen with casual slacks and open collar, long sleeve shirts...not tucked in! It’s all about making a statement that reflects the personality and preferences of the respective bride and groom. Don’t be afraid to stretch the boundaries of traditional attire. It’s your wedding. ow do you describe the emotion of romance? Nothing quite feels like it. While at the same time, nothing simply defines it. It’s a sensation that is unique, simplistic and personal to all who have crossed the bridge and opened themselves up to the astounding concept of vulnerability. This precious idea is the pathway to the even greater emotional state of intimacy. Suffice it to say, weddings are the culmination of the successful interpolation of both these emotions. So much precedes this public display of affection. And so much lies ahead to be discovered. To capture the essence of this magnificent state of being requires a creative eye and a passionate heart. Coordinators CUSHION YOUR STRESS LEVEL
Excited? Overwhelmed? Don’t toss in the towel. You are experiencing normal “wedding planning anxiety”! Most average individuals have jobs, family and a busy social life. Your time is valuable and should be used sharing the moments with your future partner, instead of laboring over planning details. This is where an experienced Wedding Coordinator, like “Superman” can swoop in and save the day. As your guide and advisor, a coordinator can establish checklists and time lines designed to meet all your deadlines. They have a pulse on the latest trends and can match your vision with affordable resources. Their primary job is to work with you to create original ideas that will make your wedding day the one you’ve always dreamed of. Once you select a coordinator, establish with them your absolute priorities. Clearly define the vendors you absolutely must have, and where you are most negotiable. Has it always been your dream to “rock the night away” with a 10 piece show band... or is the thought of having a professionally produced documentary video to share with your future children a more important qualification. The right coordinator can help you make wise and efficient decisions that will ensure your fantasy wedding will become reality. Lastly, a critical reason for hiring a professional coordinator is to have someone on site the day of your wedding to orchestrate each and every aspect of the production. It’s your special day. You don’t need to be concerned with flower arrivals, band load in or catering snafu’s. Your most important job should be to be overjoyed. Savor every moment and immerse yourself in the absolute ecstasy of valued relationships with close friends and family. The coordinators job is to be the professional buffer between you and any problem that arises. So make a sound investment in a stress free wedding and leave your worries with them. All that’s left to do is smile, laugh, cry, dance and enjoy this day to the fullest! Good Luck! www.centraloregonevents.net | Celebrations Wedding & Event Resource Guide

W
hen deciding on your wedding decor, one of the first items to consider to infuse life and color are the flowers. Most traditional blossoms can be secured in virtually any month of the year. However, out of season varieties can often challenge your budget. No matter the season, with the help of a local professional you can find just about any color and texture to make your floral statement. Here are some color suggestions: Orange flowers like peach or burntorange roses, dazzling dahlias, chrysanthemum, freesias and coral-hued gerberas are perfect for a fall wedding. Blue flowers include irises, hydrangea, hyacinth and blue delphinium. Most of these can be found in hues ranging from light blues to deep rich purples to create the perfect blend of shades. Traditional red flowers are perfect for a winter wedding. Obviously, the rose dominates this category followed by amaryllis, aster, poinsettia and many Photo by: Phil Wise Photography tropical varieties. The sweetness of pink and lavender emote an old-fashioned charm. Some standard pink varieties include roses, Asiatic lilies, lilacs, pansy, tulip, bougainvillea, fusia and larkspur. Yellow flowers are sunny & bright, and add cheerful spirit to any wedding. The most popular are roses, lilies, snapdragons, tulips and daises. Brilliant sunflowers can be used in mass for a bold look, or mixed with multiple hues for a fresh summer look. The boldest trend is the return of the all white bouquet for a clean, fresh look. This can be used for a fresh snowfall wedding or as a breath of fresh air on a hot summer day. For this, calla lilies, chrysanthemums, carnations, lilies and orchids reign supreme.
Whether simplistic and sophisticated or bulbous and outrageous, nothing says style like fresh floral arrangements.

An often forgotten aspect of event planning, transportation can be a major design element of your creative scheme or merely a “cool ride.” In either case, many opportunities present themselves. If your looking for an elegant way to transport your party from place to place you might consider a coach, horse dawn carriage or stretch limousine. Nothing says class like a shiny limo. Maybe your favorite weekend activity is cruising the open road on your favorite Harley, put it to use. If a more earthy entrance is what your looking for, imagine being led into the ceremony on a gorgeous palomino. Nothing is too outrageous! Let your imagination run free. Choose something that will make a personal statement and get you where you want to go with grace and style.

All the emotions in sight & sound
VIDEOGRAPHY
By Kara McGinn Jensen, Expectations Moving Pictures You might want to throw the term “wedding video” out the window. These days most wedding videographers are breaking out of old patterns and they aren’t calling themselves videographers anymore, but filmmakers. Telling your story is what high-quality wedding filmmakers do. Flowers, food and the music are important but those things are only a small part of what your wedding is about. The real heart of your wedding is your love for each other and your story. Your wedding video deserves to be more than the typical fare, and it is possible to find a filmmaker committed to documenting your special day in a fresh, beautiful and personal manner. Great filmmakers provide a tangible bridge between the actual experience and the images that live beyond the day of the wedding. It takes a special balance of empathy and objectivity to be present in the moment, capturing the nuances that will later be edited with skill into a treasured keepsake that can be appreciated as art as much as a record of a wedding. A wedding video can and should be authentic and portray a sense of warmth that provides a window into the personalities of your wedding party, family and friends. Experienced filmmakers know how to find the depth beyond what is visible, and this is often where the most interesting stories are found. Anyone can look back at old photographs, but it is through moving images complete with sound, movement, laughter and tears that you can re-live your wedding day. With a wedding video you won’t have to rely upon your memory to recollect all the guests, the truly special moments and the happenings of an event that passes so quickly in real time. 20 years from now you and your family can view your wedding video, go back in time and experience all those wonderful emotions again in a way that is just not possible with photographs alone. A little research into the fast-changing world of wedding filmmaking will reveal the individual styles and form of artistic expression used by local filmmakers. Take your time and choose wisely, it is very important to find a good fit for this important role in your wedding. Make sure you feel absolutely comfortable with your filmmaker, and that you are impressed by the quality of the work they have done for others. Ask for personal recommendations from other bridal couples, and remember that an excellent wedding filmmaker will not only produce exceptional work, but will be a pleasure to have around on your wedding day itself, documenting every moment with insight and respect.

degree of excitement that captivates guests. Whether pop, classical, novelty or comedy, the added dimension that quality entertainment brings can catapult an event from mundane to extraordinary! Depending on the chosen theme or atmosphere you are trying to create for your reception or party, a well thought out combination of entertainment elements can dictate the desired tone. This tone becomes the road map for guest participation. The first step in the process is establishing a conscious energy timetable. What we mean by that is that... you wouldn’t want to open your event with a 20 piece high energy show band unless you plan to end the night with a concert from the “Rolling Stones”! Consequently, it’s imperative to “build” energy and direct your guests through your chosen chain of events. “Peaks and valleys” in energy flow stimulate attention and are necessary. A constant climb in energy can become daunting and exhausting, leaving your guests unsatisfied and overwhelmed. Once you define the dynamic for each segment of entertainment it’s time to start your search. With so much to choose from in the world of entertainment, consulting a professional entertainment agent to assist in selecting the right artists for your celebration can save you tons of time and headaches. Their acute knowledge of available artists coupled with their industry savvy and experience is worth the small price for their service. Moreover, they are skilled at the art of matching artists with

atmosphere. If you are looking for background entertainment that is subtle and sophisticated, Classical music might be your best choice. Is your cocktail hour going to be casual and contemporary? If so, light instrumental Jazz might fill the
Energy is the main ingredient... bill. What about the raucous reception? Are you wanting to dance till you drop? A flamboyant Show Band could be your best bet. In each and every case, finding the perfect match is the key. Remember, every successful act is a combination of talent and personality. Make sure that your needs match their abilities. Are they flexible? Are they seasoned professionals? Does their appearance match your style and aesthetic needs? Can their music bridge age gaps? Don’t be afraid to ask questions. That’s one of the benefits of utilizing an agent. They should be able to have all the answers as well as a roster capable of meeting any client requirements. Moving your reception from average to extraordinary is totally dependant on your ability to create sufficient energy to motivate people to engage and interact. edding receptions are “celebrations” designed to involve all your guests. Hiring a disc jockey as your entertainer/master of Photo by: Kimberly Kay Photography ceremonies, can make your celebration, a “rocking success!” With a vast amount of music in their database, DJ’s have the ability to personalize the content to meet all your needs and satisfy even the oldest guest. When selecting the perfect DJ, here are a few items to consider: ATTIRE: Most DJ’s will come dressed appropriately. However, if you have any specific expectations that might enhance your theme or design concept, make them perfectly clear up front. EQUIPMENT: All should be clean and presentable. Ask to see the equipment or photos of the gear that will be used at your event. Will backup gear be available? INSURANCE: Make sure they have coverage. Many facilities require that your vendors carry liability insurance up to 1 million dollars. Photo by: Stott Shots Photography CONSULTATION: Schedule a time to meet your DJ to evaluate their personality and discuss event details. Ask for references! MUSIC SELECTION: Song lists should be available for you to plan your music in advance. Make sure you utilize the “Do Not Play” list to eliminate songs you don’t want to hear. ITINERARY: Make sure the DJ is privy to the entire schedule of events. Especially, if he is acting as Master of Ceremonies. Changes will require flexibility and often humor. INTERACTION: Do you want your DJ to be charismatic and interactive, or are you looking for a live jukebox. If you want him to orchestrate necessary elements like First Dance, Champagne Celebrations Wedding & Event Resource Guide | www.centraloregonevents.net Toast and Garter Toss, make your desires clear.
