We are once again thrilled to have the opportunity to present you the latest and greatest trends, ideas and the means to access the best local professionals in the business of staging outrageous weddings and events. 2011 in Central Oregon was a year of modest economic growth. Consequently, businesses of all types are working overtime to access responsible clients for their services. While we have lost some professionals to life changes, we have also gained many new and extremely talented companies that are forging forward with renewed vision and optimism. With over two thousand weddings in Central Oregon each year, the need for a sound resource for clients to connect with industry professionals becomes increasingly necessary. Start a wedding planning notebook to include your ideas, guest lists and thoughts for the day. Determine the type of wedding; formal or informal, indoor or outdoor, religious or civil ceremony. Choose a few dates that fit with personal and family schedules, work requirements, and honeymoon desires. Establish a budget and determine who is responsible for which expenses. Include ceremony, reception, and honeymoon. Consider hiring a wedding consultant/coordinator to make your dreams come true.

Choose your wedding attendants and request the honor of including them. Visit with the clergy and review any church/synagogue requirements. Determine your ceremony and reception location and finalize date with deposits. Meet with florists to help determine color theme considering flower availability and floral design, secure chosen florist with deposit. Select your wedding gown. Set appointments to meet with event professionals such as caterer, cake designer, photographer, videographer, musicians and disc jockeys. Secure your choices with a deposit. Select Bridesmaids gowns and have fitted. Contract with remaining professionals you have chosen and send deposits. Review all contracts and compare with your original budget, adjust if necessary. Compile names and addresses for your guest list. Notify any out-of-town travelers of the date and send package of travel information which can be obtained from the Chamber of Commerce and/or Visitors Bureau. Order invitations and thank-you notes. Reserve any needed rental equipment such as chairs, linens, tents or decorations.

Consult with hair stylist for final decisions including accessories and veil.

The unique blending of “best friends” and diverse personalities helped make this wedding powerful. Creative personal details made this celebration a stand out! From the bright green argyle socks worn by the groom and groomsmen as well as the Guinness Groom’s Cake, to the vibrant purple bridesmaid dresses and creative floral accents designed by Flowers By Deanna, the amalgamation of color and creativity all came together to create a dynamic festive atmosphere. With Five Pine Lodge as the stage, the natural setting came to life with the soothing sounds of Bill Keale. Following the ceremony, the reception menu featured northwest inspired cuisine by Thyme at Five Pine. After dinner, guests rallied on the dance floor till the sun set, leaving all exhausted and joyful!

On a beautiful sunny August day, Black Butte Ranch was host to a lively and colorful celebration. The infusion of fuchsia and black throughout the wedding created a powerful visual statement. As a destination wedding, they chose the Central Oregon area for its beauty and abundance of sunshine. With the Cascade Mountain Range as their backdrop, the lake side wedding was nestled under the natural birch trees that provided an abundance of necessary shade during the ceremony. The resort provided an elaborate buffet dinner, complete with the groom’s favorite entrÊe, Prime Rib. Foregoing the traditional cake, the bride and groom opted for a festive display of various candies and sugared delights. The lively crowd danced the night away to the live sounds of Swing Line Cubs. Truly an inspirational wedding filled with an abundance of love and laughter.

The ultimate family affair! Every family member played a role in pulling the elements together to make this wedding a spectacular event. With the Metolius River as their backdrop, the stage was set with and alter which was constructed by the bride’s father. The vibrant bridesmaid dresses provide by Cordially Invited Bridal added a pop of vivid color to an already brilliant day. With decorations provided by O’Brien Rentals the stage was set for a beautiful ceremony in the pines. The fun ensued when the bridal party took to the bikes for a celebratory ride! Special details included vintage antiques, a photo wall, a kids play table, and a specially crafted “Wedding Batch Beer” brewed by the bride’s stepfather. BRAVO FAMILY!

It’s no surprise that the first thing a newly engaged bride thinks of looking for is the perfect wedding dress. It’s a unique female “right of passage.” I believe the thoughts start gelling immediately after her first exposure to the “Cinderella Story.” From that moment on, the dreams of a horse drawn carriage, long flowing, shimmering, white dress and fairy tale prince charming begin. Don’t lie! You’ve had those dreams! As we grow older, the dreams persist. However, the details of the entire event become more mature and realistic. They reach their pinnacle right at the moment that perfect guy “pops the question.” OH BOY! Now the fun begins! Now it’s time to get your posse together and start the quest to create the look and find the dress to match the dream. Where do you begin? The first thing to do is to define your personal wedding palette! Colors. Textures. Styles. Personal Quirks! One of the best places to begin this search is with available media. Magazines, movies, web searches as well as real life fairy tales can help you to better define what your looking for. Like many of us, public weddings like last year’s royal wedding can stoke the personal juices and help get you inspired.

Does an “All White Wedding” sound right? How about incorporating a “wild color” or antique heirloom into the mix? No matter what the choices, they should reflect every aspect of your personality. Whether princess or diva, it’s the details that make the difference. Choosing unique accessories that complement your core attire is what makes the entire ensemble “yours.” Don’t be afraid to push the envelope. Make it memorable! The obvious easiest way to jump start an ensemble is with color. If your personality says, “bold and brash,” look for HOT colors like fuchsia, turquoise or lime green. If your style is more subtle and serene, consider SOFT pastels like sage, lilac or peach. Color accents can be incorporated into your dress as well as the entire wedding party ensemble. This splash of color can be a vest, tie or boutonniere for the men or the overall dress color for the bridesmaids. In the past few years, shoes in bold colors for both the men and women have become quite popular. If you really want to make a statement, put your groomsmen in “orange tennis shoes”! However, don’t forget the “sunglasses” for the rest of your guests. Brides can be daring as well. Recent fashion trends are incorporating colored accents into many wedding gowns. Colored or intricate embroidered trim details and waist bands can be a powerful embellishment that unifies the entire wedding party look. Don’t be shy! Have some Fun! As for accessories... Nostalgia is in! Consider an heirloom piece of jewelry, a vintage broach, pair of cuff links or special photos and family mementos incorporated into your bouquet. Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder? If you asked a hundred different people what their definition of “beauty” was, you would probably get a hundred different answers. From simplistic and innocent to sensual and exotic, the adjectives to define the perfect characteristics of beauty would be broad and diverse. There are many kinds of beauty. In every case, “genuine beauty” emanates from inside the individual and manifests itself through a combination of physical attributes, personal confidence and internal spirit. However, beauty is not only in the eye of the beholder. It is also in the heart of the individual. Confidence is a major factor. Many women often do not feel exceptionally attractive. Trust me, from a man’s point of view, women are “rarely” unattractive. Nevertheless, it’s important that we acknowledge this factor, because it contributes profoundly to a women’s desire to accentuate her physical appearance. This simple factor created a worldwide industry that has been alive and well on this planet for millennia. The Health and Beauty Services Industry. Does copious hours of phone calls and personal interviews with event professionals sound like FUN to you? If not, then maybe it’s time to consider hiring a professional. The decision to hire a wedding coordinator can be extremely simple once you consider the benefits. Do you have a full time job? How much time a week in the next six months do you have to dedicate to all the DETAILS? Where do you begin? How do you find the professionals you need? All these questions are not only relevant, but also genuine! If you found that the answer to any of the above questions tapped your schedule or stress level to the MAX, it might be time to consider searching for a professional Coordinator. As the “bride to be” your time is best utilized dealing with your gown, your color selections, your wedding party and your guest list. No need to excuse or explain non-traditional wedding plans. They have never been more in style. Moreover, guests are loving it! The rise in vintage or rustic inspired weddings mirrors a growing interest for all things nostalgic. This trend is all about embracing simplicity and bringing new life into old things. From vintage furniture and décor to the wedding attire for the bride and groom there are endless options to acquire that vintage look. Reusing old items are great for the environment and are a chance to use special items from loved ones. Grandma’s prized collection of perfume bottles, salt and pepper shakers, gilded bottles, cameras, books, mason jars, candlesticks, and vintage wedding pictures can add a beautiful and unique design to your centerpieces…..a sentimental touch that only the bride and groom can own. Using rustic benches and antique chairs for the seating of the guests makes for a very comfortable and homey feel. Chandeliers of scrolled iron or rustic plank with mason jars can add that “wow” factor to the overall look in the room and create romantic lighting. For the young at heart, bowls of colored taffies, hard candies, tootsie pops or sugar coated jellied delights. To add a special temptation, consider adding paper bags and scoopers for your guests to “fill at will”. This should drive the kids CRAZY! Not to mention every dentist in the room. What about highlighting a favorite family desert tradition such as tiramisu, or cheesecakes with an array of toppings. For the health nuts in the crowd, how about tempting them with white and dark chocolate covered strawberries. No matter what direction you take, the area is sure to be the focal point of the reception food court. Have some fun with it and it can become a reception detail that is nothing short of MAGICAL!

No matter what the event, the inclusion of alcoholic beverages always adds a new dimension of excitement to the festivities. While no one knows exactly when alcohol was first used, it was presumably the result of a fortuitous accident that occurred at least tens of thousands of years ago. The discovery of late Stone Age beer jugs established the fact that fermented beverages existed at least as early as the 10,000 B.C. Presently, spirits have become a mainstay in the social culture of entertainment. From the traditional champagne toast to exotic concoctions designed to support a chosen theme, alcoholic beverages can be a positive contribution to any social gathering. However, before you purchase a case of Jose Quervo and break out the old college blender to showcase your personal talents of “mixology”, you might want to consult a local professional regarding state liquor laws and proper distribution requirements. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission requires that you have a license to serve any alcoholic beverages to the public. If you decide to do the work yourself, you can purchase a day license for your event from the OLCC. However, anyone who serves alcoholic beverages at your event, whether beer, wine or champagne, must have in their possession an OLCC server permit. Server permits are issued after completing a short course on Oregon state liquor laws and serving requirements. The permit can then be issued after passing a written test. NO ONE is legally allowed to serve alcoholic beverages without the permit. One way to usurp the entire issue is to have your venue, caterer or an outside beverage service provide and serve your liquor. These professionals carry the state license required, as well as the professional servers necessary to meet all the state requirements. They can save you tons of headaches as well as possible fines. No matter which way you choose to go, always remember to “Drink and Serve Responsibly”!

However, there are many more ways he or she can contribute to the overall success of your event. Do you envision an evening of high energy and dancing? Wild line dancing and laughter? Do you have anyone who is responsible for keeping things moving and making sure all the aspects of your day come off on schedule? Who is responsible for music content and song selection? No matter what type of event you are planning, from the simplest cocktail party to the rowdiest wedding reception, live entertainment always adds excitement and pizzazz to the mix. Agents have access to thousands of entertainment acts in a broad spectrum of genres.
