MULTIVIEW DRAWING 2
1
“M ultiview drawing” helps us to under-
stand the differences of the elevations by looking at the objects of various solid geometries. In order to play with various scences, object number 1 and 2 have visual tricks in specific side. In object 1, it is seem as square from front and back, and in object 2, it appears as a rectangle shape from top view.

By learning “Make 2D,” we are able to use “Hatch” which is really useful for layout. Lineweight is used to emphasize the depths of various objects in order to allow the audience to understand the presentation without confusion.

Adding lineweight and hatching on curve objects is a challenge, ince two of the objects have extreme curves going on.
3
Hatching can be improved in futrue by carefully looking at the 3D objects to create the depth of solid objects, and 1 to 2 lighter or darker colours could be applied to make it more clear. Lineweight, which is one of the most important feature in representing the layout of the objects, can be refined as well. Different lineweight can imply differences of the height and the depth of the objects. More colour can sometimes become more confused to read.

PLANAR OBJECTS AND FOLDING
“P lanar objects and folding” is the exercise that has to create a
poly-surface either by folding a polygonal shape or using four sided polygons. In this project, the object is created by folding methods. Commands; move, rotate, mirror and split are used a lot. In the end of the project, we are able to create a physical model by using “Unrollsrf ” to get a layout.

Although it is fun to play these commands, it requires attention to avoid the overlapping of the surfaces. If I were repeat this exercise, I would like to try the other method which is creating poly-surface with polygons. Since I used the folding method, I did not get a chance to use “orient that much.

BOOLEAN 1
Object created by drawing a polygon and extruded into a solid object
“B oolean” is an exercise that allow us to
carve the part of the object in order to create non right corner object. Similar to the previous project, we are able to make a physical object after unrolling. I would consider boolean other surfaces as well since the back side has a big plane surface. It would be much more interesting to have connecting holes inside. A big challenge might be making the physical model. One side have to keep open until all the cutout parts are done.

GRAFTING
I n “Grafting”, a curve surface has to be drawn between two given surfaces with tangencies. This exercise hepls us to un-
derstand tangency and quadrant. By using three points curves, we are able to draw a tangency curve. When we get enough isocurves, a curve surface can be got by “networksrf.”

Since I got isocurves not only from quadrants and did not look for two sides, it was messed up with networksrf after drawing all the isocurves for the middle one. However, it is an advantage of having copies of every process so that whenever there is a mistake just have to go back rather than start all over again. In the future project, I would be more careful of choosing the isocurves and consider both u and v cross sections.

MASHRABIYA
“M ashrabiya is a shading architectural works came from Middle East. In this exercise, a 2D Mashrabiya pattern is transformed into 3D solid object by using different tools such as loft, sweep, extrude, trim, cap and so forth.

Except the final iteration, others were created by using loft and sweep. Since the first iteration has more levels, it is hard to used loft without overlapping. Therefore, I reduced the layer. But it still had the same issue. Even though there is no issue of overlapping, the twists are messed up with combination of loft and sweep. In the final iteration, about 90 percent of the twist were created by corner points, only the part converting from edge to curve were used by loft. Exploring more command will help in future projects. I will also try filpping the pattern. However, it won’t ensure that I will have the same pattern from front and back elevations.

ANAMORPHIC PROJECTION
“A namorphic projection” is a vision trick which requires viewers to look from specific view. In this exercise, “camera” is the key command to achieve the same view for objects and projection.
In this project, we had two options of projecting the objects which are front and back on the wall. The one that I did was projecting on the wall. It requires adequate use of lines, intersection and boolean. I had hard time making the shading and materials looks as similar as possible. In order to make the projection looks similar to the objects, materials can be changed.

SOLIDS
“S olids, this project allow us to used the different commands that we have learned to create the polysurface object. Each of us assigned to create the individual chess piece of a set. I was assigned to draw a bishop.

The concept was clear. The abstract shape of bishop was developed from the basic symbol step of the bishop. Then by using twist, boolean, extrude and bend, forming the curvy abstract form of the bishop. Although the negative space has made as the symbol of the original bishop shape, it is not clear enough. If I redrew it, I would make it more recognizable. Plus, I also should have saved all the steps of the changes so that I can show the process more understandable.

CURTAIN WALL HOUSE RENOVATION
“C urtain wall house renovation” is the project which requires to apply the command that had been taught to renovate the existing house in Japan.

Landing of the stairs

I had taken out the original staircase and transfomred it by surrounding the two side of the building. In the renovation design, I kept the whole structures in angles. Lacking use of curves and command such as network srf would be my both weakness and opportunites. Keeping the form as similar as the origin is the risk of developing the ideas and limiting the potentials.
