“ In government, the actions of one individual can have great OVERARCHING CONCEPT : RIPPLE EFFECT
impacts on society as a whole. In the same way, the actions of the internal groups that make up NGA can have major external impacts on the governors they support and ultimately on our nation. Meeting zones serve as innovation epicenters, fostering groundbreaking conversations which then ripple out and impact the surrounding architectural elements and finishes, creating an organic flow through the space.
“
The client, National Governor’s Association, requested an open space with a strong brand identity that could act as a hub for our nation’s governors to convene and collaborate with their counterparts. My role as Lead Designer involved working closely with the client starting with Visioning/Programming and working through the CD phase, and ultimately assisting with furniture specifications. I developed a strong concept, presented the design intent to the client, made FF+E selections, and tailored construction documents to meet these requirements with the support of a small team.

approach that encourages community facilitation while improving human wellbeing and livelihood. The Council on Social Work Education’s space will embody the organization’s dedication to advancing social workers’ education by maintaining an elevated design aesthetic. The space will fuse moments of creativity and innovation with sophisticated forms of architecture and soft textured finishes. The space will be celebrated by unity, activation and opportunities for collaboration to support and advance a more empowered community.

“PEOPLE MOVERS”

For this particular client, I supported the design and production side of the project, jumping in at the SD phase and supporting through CA, all while working remotely. This was one of our first projects to be kicked-off while in this pandemic climate, and it really challenged our design team to be that much better at collaboration. In addition, this non-profit had a tight budget, so we had to be intentional with where we allocated cost. Working on a small team, I helped build a furniture package, virtually presented design intent to the client on numerous occasions, and developed cost effective, innovative solutions to deliver a high-impact space on an economic budget.

For this particular client, I supported the production side of the project in addition to being a graphic consult. I space planned a series of test fits and inputted them based on a developed concept I was given. I also got the opportunity to work with an in-house graphic designer to co-design the entry wall for the Reception area.
COMMERCIAL OFFICE 43,000 SQFT Production 2D + 3D 2551 DULLES VIEW DRIVE, HERNDON, VA
I supported the production side of this project, assisting a team of designers in manifesting the concept of “Architectural Disruption” through finish selection and construction document development. Breaking up the space’s right angles, the team interjected more angular elements that reflect KeyW’s energetic culture. Departing from the linear grid, the design team situated the café and multi-functional stair as a social hub that buzzes with visual and spatial interest, inviting people to gather. The stair not only makes a striking impression upon entry, but it draws the eye upward with a sculptural, metal screen that emphasizes the two-story volume, uniting both floors.

“ An amenity space shaped by a bold OVERARCHING CONCEPT :

gesture that drives smaller moments which energize individuals, enhance wellbeing, and encourage engagement. My role for this project was to tackle a new amenity space and provide a modern solution that would bring new tenants to the building and help with retention at the same time. I researched the newest trends in amenity design, developed those findings into concepts that would drive the design for the space, and then produced graphic aids to help explain those layouts to the client. Through this research, I developed a strong overarching concept which then guided the three sub-concepts of Wellness, Economic Driver, and Work Life Integration.

The client, Stewart Investments, had a vision for making this dated, low occupancy building into a rebranded, premiere healthcare office facility. I was brought into the project to refresh the space and make FF+E selections, starting from Visioning and carrying through to CA. I started with researching trends in the healthcare industry, and then focused in on the unutilized atrium space. I curated a spalike design that maximizes this amenity by providing a “virtual” waiting room for patients. Ample seating at different postures allows guests to come and wait and/or work while visiting their doctors.

For this Spec Suite, the driving factor for the client was the economic budget. I was tasked with providing a design driven space which could entice prospective tenants at the lowest cost possible. To do this, I focused the cost in strategic areas where I knew the moments could be most impactful. For example, the reception area and pantry are focal points meant to engage prospective clients. The client, National Community Church, proposed a unique mixed use project where they wanted to turn the old Navy Yard Car Barn into a multilevel property comprised of a new church, child daycare center, office space, restaurants, and marketplace + retail areas. My role as Lead Designer was to develop a concept that could unite the different uses of the building, but still stay true to the history of the property and the mission of NCC. This was done by the development of the “Passageway” which is a central pathway that creates moments where the various levels + zones of the building can interplay.

The various level changes in this particular building proved difficult to incorporate into a universally designed space. However, I utilized that physical characteristic to my advantage and created a more dynamic experience. The level changes are what make this “passageway” so unique, and this is just another example of how I like to turn a challenge into a design solution.

This client, For Five Coffee Roasters, is a small chain of boutique coffee shops that was looking to expand into the DMV market. They came to us with three locations in mind, starting with the first in Alexandria, VA, followed by two more in Washington, DC, and Arlington, VA. I was tasked as Lead Designer to look for ways to make each location unique while elevating the customer experience and staying true to the For Five brand. I simultaneously carried each project location from Programming and followed through to CA. I drew inspiration for each coffee house from the For Five brand along with local motifs. For example, the color palette for each location was inspired by the adjacent metro lines. A key factor to selecting the location for each spot was accessibility and being within walking distance from a metro stop, so it only seemed fit to pull in nods from that component into each space.
