C O U N T R Y M U S I C is not what it used to be. While the message and essence of country music remains timeless, how it spreads that message to the world continues to change. This genre of music has organically adapted over the years to match a sound resembling that of pop, alternative, and rock, layering several musical genres to produce this new sound of country. This space reinforces the continuing change in country music as it moves forward in time, merging into other styles of music and morphing into something that reflects a new environment along the musical timeline. This can be seen throughout the space by how the spaces are layered, both between floors and along the same axes, in addition to an edgy, contrasting color scheme, and a layout that encourages movement.
“S H O T G U N� is more than just a commonly used motif in a country song. It represents the initiative we encourage our artists to have when taking risks with their music and spreading their message to the world; trust yourself, pull the trigger, and break musical boundaries.

I N S P I R E D by the ever
changing genre that is country music, the ceiling feature on the first floor resonates throughout the space, emphasizing this idea of growth and transition. By incorporating this custom piece of art and lighting in the space, it aids in this coming together of the old country and the new generation of music, creating contemporary country. The structure not only influences the circulation on the first floor, but it determines the path of travel on the second. In the Kitchen and Entry elevations (previous page, bottom right), the wavy wood structure from the first floor seems to push through the floorboards, tying the two levels together as one. The reveals in the floor allow light to soar upward, aiding in the illusion. This layering of different mediums on various axes represents country music of today, and the direction Shotgun Studios plans to take the industry.
S C O N C E S light up the conference
room walls, while recessed cans help with the rest of the room. In keeping with this flexible floor plan that encourages movement, wall-mounted sconces allow for a more flexible orientation of the room, and do not instill the same restrictions to furniture arrangements that occur when accent pendants or chandeliers are strategically used. This use of lighting adds to the decor of the space, while allowing the orientation of the table to adjust as needed. The type of glass used on the walls of the room also helps with this easy transition. While the glass appears opaque in this perspective, the application of Smart Glass (by Glass Apps) allows the glass to change back to clear with the flip of a switch. This way, the space can function as both an open, casual area becoming one with the kitchen, or a private conversation location with walls up and lights out.
