greek soldiers were alway men never women or slaves. the greek soldiers had to buy there own aromor and weapons so the more wealthy the person the better the armor and weqpons. the full suit of armor can wiegh up to 60 pounds and just the shield alone can wiegh over 30 pounds. when a son went out to war their mother would say come back with your shield or on it meaning come back with your shield in hand or on it dead.


Armor The greeks always wore armor in battle. What some soldiers wore was a helmet with nose protection, others wore a helmet that didn't have nose protection called a attic hemet. They also wore breast plates for protecting thier chest, they also greaves that are more commonly known as shin gaurds. They carried a sheild in one hand to protect themselves from arrows.


hand held weapons when in battle the greeks brought a short sword called a xiphos as teir secondary weapon and as their primary they normally had a spear called a doru. in Greece their spears were long and had different heads.


balistics Fires lots of giant arrows. The balista was like a giant crossbow and was considerd one of the stongest weapons in all of greece.

Catipults The catipult was made by archimedes. it was designed to fire hevey objects such as rocks at enemy armies.


naval warfare The first battle ships of the Greeks were called pentekontors. They were long and meant to go fast. Pentekontors had 25 oar men on each side. After that they made new boats called triremes. These boats had 75 oarsmen on each side and went even faster. These boats could get up to 14 knots in good weather and they were very important because Greece is surrounded by water.
