Trojan War

The Trojan War was about Greece and Troy fighting against each other in an area that is Now Turkey. The war happened 3,000 years ago. Troy was supposedly destroyed by fire around 1260-1240 bc

Causes It is suggested that something other than trading caused the Trojan War. The war was fought during the time of the wealthy and powerful king Priam of Troy. The war started when the son of Priam, Paris fell in love with a girl named Helen. Helen was the wife of Menelaus, the king of Sparta which is a part of Greece. Paris won Helen’s love and persuaded her to go to Troy with him. Because of this, Menelaus' brother Agamemnon launched an attack on Troy.

War and Aftermath

The Trojans with help from allies defended Troy and defended themselves for 10 years. The Gods and Goddesses took sides in the war. Hera, Athena and Poseidon took the side of the Greeks and Aphrodite, Apollo and Ares were with the Trojans. The Greeks eventually won thanks to the Trojan Horse trick.

The Trojan War Trick / Surprise Attack The Greeks and Athena built a huge wooden hollow horse. Warriors of Greece hid in it. The whole other part of the Greek army then sailed away to near islands. Then Trojans took the horse behind their lines of territory and offered it to Athena. That night the Greeks popped out of the Trojan horse and opened the gate for the other half of the army. Troy got destroyed and the King of Priam and his son's got killed. Menelaus took Helen back to Sparta and they lived happily.
