Every year, there are a few matings that are a little more anticipated than others. This year we couldn’t have been more excited to get this mating on the ground. Two proven animals combined to exceed our expectations here. This heifer is a true standout in terms of sheer quality. Talk about one that is so true in terms of body capacity and length of spine, while still being exceptionally sound and functional on all angles of her mobility--not to mention the amount of true muscle she expresses. To say that we are excited about this female is an understatement. She’s truly destined for a bright future.

These four females are all descendants of our 2201 “Lut” donor, produced in her very first year of IVF production. Talk about high caliber females and you’re talking about these ladies! The donor dam of these females has flat out been getting it done here at Udell Cattle. She has not only produced four extremely high-quality females, but also three bulls of equal quality, one of which we will be exhibiting this fall. If you’re serious about winning majors and making high quality cattle then be sure to look these four up October 13th in Sioux City, Iowa.

This female has been gaining a lot of steam this fall, and with good reason. She is so extremely good looking, big swoopy rib caged and is exceptionally sound. Oh, and not to mention, she’s got the big shag! We could talk a long time on these Angus females, but we would rather you come and take a look for yourself. We think you’ll be impressed.

I’m not going to lie the picture and video of this heifer don’t do her any justice at all, and that’s nobody’s fault but her own. We truly believed/believe that this could be the best heifer we raised this year, but do to an after weaning illness she went backwards some in terms of body condition. With that being said, she’s on the mend and we are pumped up about this April Refresh prospect. Even being sick and skinny, everyone that has gone through this group of cattle has picked her out of the crowd. Her mother, our up and coming 4172 donor sired by Blue Chip, was a many time champion for Maddy, including winning the Iowa Beef Expo Supreme Female. This female has the look, body shape, and structural correctness to give any aged Angus female a run for their money.

Lot 7 is a long spined, big ribbed female that we believe is going to make an extremely high quality bred. She reads so true in terms of capacity and movement its hard to find something not to like about her. This female’s phenotypically awesome, but in terms of proven genetics and future dollar generators, we feel she is second to none.

This heifer is in the running for Miss Congeniality, only to be rivaled by lot 30. Bret and I both agreed when we were videoing this heifer that a little kid needs to be showing this calf. Not because she lacks quality, because we think this one is right up there in terms of being a nationally competitive female, but because its cattle like this that are just a joy to be around day in and day out. Her genetics speak for themselves as she carries two of the breed’s hottest pedigrees--Insight and Style x Cabin Creek Sandy. Plus, phenotypically she has all the bases covered to compete at any show.

For as much true power and capacity she possesses, she’s still so great in her joints and angles and gets out and moves with complete ease. We’ve gone back and forth since this spring on which one was our favorite, but I guess we’ll let somebody a little smarter decide for us. All three are extremely high quality heifers that we have no doubt will get better and better each and every day of their life. We sold a full sib to these heifers to the Jauer girls last year that made the top five numerous times and was a class winner at the Iowa State Fair 4-H show. Never the less, she’s backed by one of our greatest looking future donor prospects, 2614, who is a Lutton that was selected from Cunninghams. This little girl is going to be a big time bred! However, in the grand scheme of things that really doesn’t matter, because the only place you couldn’t win was Junior Nationals, and we, without a doubt, believe she’ll be hanging some banners. Really, I think in the last couple of years Red Thunder has written her own footnotes. Her first calf was a many time winner sired by Northern Improvement. Her second mating to Style 9303 produced champions for Vickland/RJ, Green Oaks/Collins/Durham, Skiles/Jeffs, Guyer, Walker/Steck/Paulsen, Powell/ Morey, CEG/Perryman, Rea/Paulsen, and the Jauer’s. We’ve been fortunate enough to be along for the ride with these great customers and couldn’t be prouder or more humbled with the success stories they’ve brought to our program and we can’t wait to make more. With that being said, we know these two females aren’t sired by Style 9303, but rather a bull a you can obviously tell we’re very confident in (Watchout 482). There really isn’t much I need to say other than many have said that these two females could be Red Thunder’s best two yet. She herself was no stranger to the banner hanging club, winning countless jackpot shows and most notably being Reserve AOB at the NAILE a fall ago. This female is built quite a bit like her sister, only maybe this one has a little more frame size and growth, which I don’t believe is a bad thing. She too is just a little shy of being a high % Chi, but if history repeats its self, I would doubt that it will matter much when you’re winning as much as her sister did.

If a girl built like this showed up to the play ground back in the day I would’ve conceded and accepted defeat before embarrassing myself. What I’m trying to say is, when you get a female built with this kind of groundwork and foot and bone, while still having the smoothest of joints and the structural correctness… she’s a freak. Honestly, I mean that in every good way possible. With as much power and dimension this animal possesses, she’s still so good looking and correct from every angle she gives you. Good Old Fat Amy has done it again. This Pilgrim three-quarter blood female is what we are shooting for when raising these three-quarter blood heifers. First and foremost the structural integrity this female possesses is what we strive to produce in every one of our Simmental heifers. This blazed faced female is a smooth made, long necked, big bodied prospect with worlds of potential, not only in the show ring, but more importantly in production. This heifer will make extremely high quality percentage and purebreds progeny.

This cool headed, Broker daughter is another one that I think will be a perfect fit for any show/production scenario you position her. We can’t say enough good things about heifers that look like this and that are backed with proven pedigrees. Raising bulls or heifers can be an easy task, if you fill your cowherd with females like this one.
