Using negative space to create the S inside of the circle
6
Using 2 seperate elements to form an S inbetween
Creating a blocky, life like character that would react differently to each channel (e.g kick a ball for sport, paint for art)
Using the letters in a ‘brick’ formation, using the space at the end to change colour depending on what channel
7
Using the S as a infinty loop, constantly showing great show (catch phrase)
8
Also looked at the tagline ‘what’s your select?’, using it to show the different channels and different people watchingwww
This was looking into seperate icons for each channel, however felt this didn’t have a contant theme and woud be confusing for new viewers
9
Similar to the other idea, this was using simple shapes after the word select to show different channels, but again confusing
10
Going back to block idea, coming to a better final logo, and introducing green, a colour think would be good for the ident.
11
Experimenting with squares and blocks, quite similar to BBC
12
Also looked into a finger pressing the ‘select button’ but felt it was a bit boring and not a very well rounded logo
These designs are based on a heart, representing the love for the channel, the arrow showing the select aspect. Didnt really feel that it represented select as a whole Here is the start of my final idea, using the 2 block shapes to create the S. One of the blocks could change to a different colour to signify a different channel
13
Similar to the last idea, using 2 interlocking blocks to form an abstract S. This could also change colours and include the channels name in the second section. It has potential to move and become a center piece for the ident and cut aways
14
At the top, looking into the brick and block S ideas. I feel that the brick idea is very childish and doesnt look profesional. As for the block S, it is a little too simple and has been done before (BBC 2’s robots). At the bottom, another idea using negative space but with curves. Some look messy like the last 2 but has some potential
15
Going back to the previous ideas, I started to look into how they could work as motion concepts. Here is an example, using them as a pattern of moving blocks which could be simple but effective.
16
I even started to look at ways it could be used in a cut away, showing whats coming up and revealing information on the show. As the blocks are simple shapes, they will be easy to animate and work well as a ‘locking’ system.
17
Out of the last 2 images i prefered this one. I used the same style as the S to create the other letters of SELECT. I also used grey with green, which i think worked well as it stands out and sends a bold statement of new and modern.
18
With this new logo taking shape, I felt that the other one was a little rough around the edges. With these new ones, I rounded off the edges and experimented with type inside the other blocks. With these new ideas, i felt there was one aspect which was standing out and doing most of the work as the logo, the S.
19
20
With the shape made, I used different colours to represent each channel. I feel this is a subtle way to show each one and looks profesional. I also added a tall, strong text to the bottom of logo with 2 different outcomes, one with the S in the channels colour and the other with the whole word in the grey section.

Looking back at the previous designs, i felt that the tall font worked but the placement was wrong. I then looked at the placement of the words, incorperating them in and around my logo. I felt the ones were it hung off the edge didn’t work but the ones inside had potential. In the end, i chose the last one, where the white text is stong in the colour and the channel stands out from any background.

I looked at several subtle changes to make the logo different but still keep its original characteristics. For example I used a static effect however i felt it wasn’t different enough, just looked darker. I also looked at patterns, which worked as it showed the differences well. I especially liked the 2nd one, were it looks like a strip as been cut through it.

I also tested incorporating all the colours from the other colours into strips, blocks and even shattered glass, however i felt it was too busy. I also tried stripes but would be confusing and wouldn’t work on TV screen.

25
Out of my ideas, i felt the seperated line model worked well, giving it a digital effect and has enough difference from the other logos, I added the 24/7 at the top as i felt it worked well coming off the green section of the logo.
