Seatbelts, Everyone! America’s favorite bus zooms to the stage with an all-new 25th anniversary musical adventure! The Magic School Bus Live! The Climate Challenge, based on the best-selling and award-winning Scholastic book series, will be presented by Maximum Entertainment Productions in association with Bay Area Children’s Theatre and Oregon Children’s Theatre in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the beloved franchise. Scott Elmegreen’s (Colin Quinn Long Story Short; Awesome Allie, First Kid Astronaut) catchy music and lyrics & his witty book shine under the direction of Tracy Ward (Strega Nona, Hunter Gatherers) in a show that will become an instant favorite for kids and adults alike. The musical takes the audience on an exciting adventure from the arctic to the equator and examines what affects Earth’s climate every day. The Magic School Bus Live! The Climate Challenge is sure to provide audience members with a fun and educational theater experience that will have them shouting “Wahoo!” with Ms. Frizzle and the gang. This refreshing musical interpretation focuses on one of the most important environmental issues facing the Earth today: climate change. As Ms. Frizzle and her students do research for their class play on climate, they hop on the Magic School Bus to learn how recycling, alternative energy, and conservation can make a difference in the world. Jessica Payne leads the cast as the fun-loving Ms. Frizzle, with Kyle Payne, Catherine Gloria, Jaqueline Goalwin, Brian Conway, and Calia Johnson as her beloved students. Beginning in Berkeley, California, the seven month tour will include stops in more than 60 cities, including Memphis, Indianapolis, Virginia Beach, and New York. The Brad Simon Organization serves as exclusive booking agent for this all-new musical production. Based on the best-selling Scholastic book series written by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen, The Magic School Bus is an Emmy Awardwinning animated television series that is produced in more than 39 countries and 16 languages. It currently airs on the Qubo Channel in the United States. With more than 58 million books in print, the

SCOTT ELMEGREEN (Book/Music/Lyrics) is a Broadway composer, playwright, and sound designer living in New York City. His original compositions can be heard in Colin Quinn Long Story Short, directed by Jerry Seinfeld at the Helen Hayes Theatre, and recent writing credits include Awesome Allie, First Kid Astronaut (commissioned by Vital Theatre); COLLEGE The Musical (NYMF Award for Excellence in Writing; Pace New Musicals Award; Richard Rodgers Award finalist; Hippodrome State Theatre; published by Dramatic Publishing Company); Vote For Me: A Musical Debate (NYMF 2010; commissioned by Aged in Wood Productions); and Thucydides (Samuel French Off Off Broadway Festival Winner; published by Samuel French). OREGON CHILDREN’S THEATRE (Associate Producer) is Oregon’s flagship performing arts company for children and families. All of its programs, from stage to classroom, open the door to a life-long appreciation of the arts and use theater to advance growth, development and creativity in children. Each season, OCT produces five professional plays for families and school groups, reaching an audience of close to 100,000. Who makes the show happen? The Director is Tracy. Tracy is in charge of telling the actors where to go on stage and how to make their characters interesting. She is the person who makes sure everyone is doing a good job telling the story of the play. The Actors are all of the people you see on the stage. They work together as a team to rehearse the play, memorize their lines and learn their songs. All of the actors went to school to learn how to perform.

The Playwright and Composer is Scott. Scott writes all of the music for the show and all of the words that the actors speak. He also writes the lyrics, or the words that the actors sing. He also writes stage directions which help the director know what the actors should be doing while they say their lines. Scott read the Magic School Bus book very closely to find all of the most important facts and stories. The Choreographer is Nicole. Nicole creates all of the dances in the show and then teaches them to the actors. She works very closely with the Director and the Music Director to help tell the story of the play through movement. The Music Director is Sean. Sean teaches all of the music to the actors and helps them find the best way to sing the songs and the harmonies. A harmony is when two people are singing different notes at the same time and when you hear them together they sound beautiful. Sean works with the Composer to make sure he is doing the best job possible with the music! The Set Designer is Emily. Emily creates the world where the actors tell the story. She imagines and draws all of the pieces that you see on the stage. For this production Emily has an extra challenge to use as many natural or recycled materials as possible.

The Costume Designer is Ulises. Ulises imagines the clothes that the actors are wearing to help become the characters. He draws and then sews the clothing.

The Projection Designer is Lloyd. Lloyd chose all of the pictures and movies that were played during the show. Lloyd works with Scott, the Playwright and Tracy, the Director to decide which kind of picture goes where in the script. Insert 7
