Making excellence a habit!

FS 638392 ISO 9001

Management and staff at Ty-Mawr ˆ Lime Ltd are celebrating achieving the prestigious ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems standard. Achieving the standard reinforces Ty-Mawr’s ˆ commitment to delivering the highest quality of service and continually improving business performance in a safe working environment. Ty-Mawr’s ˆ Managing Director, Joyce Gervis, commented: “We are justifiably proud to achieve ISO 9001. This is reassurance to our customers, suppliers and staff that Ty-Mawr’s ˆ quality systems have been independently assessed and have met the high standards expected. By being certified to ISO 9001, Ty-Mawr ˆ is demonstrating its commitment to maintaining the highest possible standards in all that we do.”

Jumping for Joy-ce On Friday 11th September, Ty-Mawr’s ˆ Accounts Manager, Marg Price, completed a sponsored parachute jump from 15000 feet, raising money for the cancer charity Velindre Cancer Care. Margaret explained: “I decided to do a sponsored parachute jump to support our Managing Director, Joyce, and to help her to raise money for her trek in Patagonia and support her cause in the process.” Marg added: “I’ve always wanted to give it a go and so I’ve fulfilled a life time dream, and at the same time, I’ve been able to support a great cause!” Ty-Mawr’s ˆ MD, Joyce Gervis, commented: “I was thrilled, and relieved, to get the call from Marg to say that she had landed safely after her 6 minutes falling through the air from 15,000ft! She had a minute in free-fall, then had 5 minutes to take in the view. When I spoke to her, she sounded as if she was still on Cloud Nine!”

New Year, New Website!

The ISO 9001 standard sets out the requirements of a quality management system and provides guidance and best practice for companies and organisations who want to ensure that their products and services consistently meet customer’s requirements, and that quality is consistently improved.

Winter 2015

Much work is going on behind the scenes to develop a new Ty-Mawr ˆ website and eCommerce platform. We’re on-track to launch our fully responsive, mobile-friendly, new website... with a range of terrific new features... in Q1 2016. Watch this cyberspace!!

Happy Christmas/Nadolig Llawen! Our offices will be closed from midday on the 24th December and will re-open at 8.30am on Monday 4th January. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support, encouragement, friendship and custom throughout 2015. With our sincerest best wishes for a Happy Christmas and a successful, green, New Year! Nigel, Joyce and all at Ty-Mawr ˆ Lime.

Ty-Mawr ˆ are delighted to welcome: David Chambers has joined as our UK Sales Manager for our GLAPOR RFG and Celenit Product ranges. Richard Roberts has joined Ty-Mawr ˆ as our Management Accountant. We also welcome Stephen Humphreys and Nathan Gittins to Ty-Mawr’s ˆ Technical Sales/Product Support team, and Geraint Forsyth to the Warehouse team. We’re sad to say goodbye to: Martin Tavener – Martin joined Ty-Mawr ˆ as PA to the Directors and Course Co-ordinator in August 2013; he quickly became an indispensable, infinitely flexible, knowledgeable and skilled member of the management team, not only taking the promotion and co-ordination of courses from strength to strength but organising and setting up meetings, exhibitions and shows, undertaking H&S, quality, HR, and environmental monitoring duties. He will be hugely missed by all at Ty-Mawr ˆ but we wish him and his family every best wish for Martin Tavener the future.

Innovate UK to fund a Cork-ing Project! Ty-Mawr ˆ is delighted to be a Project Partner in a consortium that has been awarded Innovate UK funding to research a new construction system. Led by MPH Architects, with Amorim UK Ltd, University College London, and the University of Bath also as Project Partners, the project aims to create a profoundly simple and sustainable alternative to the multilayered modern building envelope. The proposed solid-wall system will be made from a single bio-renewable material, and will address issues of building performance across all stages of the life of a building – from resource to design and construction, to in-use, deconstruction and re-use. It is anticipated that this innovative technology will be developed as an easy-to-assemble prefabricated dryjoint construction kit. The project will also benefit from input from ARUP, the University of Edinburgh, BREGlobal, Alliance for Sustainable Building Products and the Good Homes Alliance. Technical Director,

Nigel Gervis, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be involved in this collaboration! This project is just one of a number of projects that Innovate UK is investing in across the UK; collaborative R&D projects that could lead to better whole-life performance of buildings. The overall aim of this initiative is to maximise the longterm contribution of buildings to the economy, society and the environment. This is in line with Construction 2025, the joint strategy by government and industry for the future of UK construction, and is very much in line with Ty-Mawr’s ˆ founding principles!”

Croft Cottage stars at the h.Energy Festival In October, and as part of a countywide h.Energy Festival in Herefordshire, the owners of Croft Cottages opened the doors of their recently renovated C17th Grade II-listed agricultural dwellings, providing a live example of the opportunities to live more sustainably. Set in nearly 3 acres at the top of Fromes Hill, the cottages have been lovingly restored using Ty-Mawr’s ˆ eco-friendly materials and systems such as sublime® Limecrete Floor using GLAPOR® Recycled Foamed Glass (RFG) gravel, and our timber-frame insulation system using Homatherm Woodfibre Boards, Thermafleece® Welsh CosyWool insulation, and our Lime Hemp Plaster and Top Coat Plaster. The building is being restored with a view to making it as energy efficient as possible and has also used Ty-Mawr’s ˆ Wood Wool Boards for Internal/ External Walls and Ceilings, as well as our Homatherm EnergiePlus: Comfort plaster base boards and Homatherm UD-Q11 sarking and sheathing boards. Treledydd Fawr now open for business We are absolutely delighted to have helped to conserve one of Wales’ most important buildings, Treleddyd Fawr, near St. David’s in Pembrokeshire.

Treledydd Fawr is not a castle, nor a cathedral, but a modest Pembrokeshire Cottage; one of the last unmodernised traditional West Wales cottages of its type remaining in this area. We were extremely pleased to supply builder Phil Yates with our lime products including Limewash and Casein Natural Paint to protect this unique building. The Grade II-listed building is set to open as a one-bedroom holiday cottage, with the National Trust keen for visitors to experience a “rare slice of Welsh history”.

Eu Ecolabel:

In October it was a pleasure for us to welcome Celenit’s Sales Director, Domenico Gastaldello from Italy, to Wales and to its Production and Distribution Facility at the Brecon Enterprise Park. Celenit’s Wood Wool boards have been used in buildings for over half a century, and have become a key part of Ty-Mawr ˆ Lime’s product range. Technical Director, Nigel Gervis, commented: “For the last 15 years or so Ty-Mawr ˆ has been promoting and distributing building boards for use with our lime products and during that time, Celenit’s wood wool boards have proved to be an increasingly popular product as a lime carrier. It really is an exceptional product.” Managing Director, Joyce Gervis, added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Domenico to Brecon and to show him how we have geared up through our recent investments to grow and serve the UK market. Domenico agreed that Ty-Mawr ˆ have successfully put in place all of the ingredients to ensure the relationship goes from strength to strength.”

National Lido of Wales – Ty-Mawr ˆ involved in more ways than one!

Back in the late summer, Lido Pontypridd, the £6.3 Million National Lido of Wales, opened following a major restoration project which has used materials from Ty-Mawr ˆ including Blaenavon Aggregate and St Astier Hydraulic Lime (NHL 3.5). Ty-Mawr’s ˆ involvement extended well beyond the supplying of materials however. Volunteers involved in the restoration of the Lido benefitted from a series of Heritage Skills courses delivered by the Ty-Mawr ˆ Lime team at our Training Centre in Llangasty, as well as at Pontypridd High School. The Lido is now closed for the Winter but we wish it continued success when it reopens later in 2016.

What does it mean? The next time you are looking for a true ‘Eco’ paint, look out for the EU Ecolabel flower symbol. Earthborn was the first paint brand in the UK to be licensed to carry the EU Ecolabel. But what does it mean and why are they so proud of this achievement? Well, it provides independent, third party assurance that the product meets the highest possible environmental performance and is the only environmental product certification scheme that is accepted EU wide. Earthborn are proud that their Claypaint, Eggshell and Ecopro Emulsion, all stocked by Ty-Mawr, ˆ have met the stringent criteria to carry the EU Ecolabel flower symbol!
