The Caricaturization of Animals in American culture Todd Smith
We live in material culture that loves to project stereotypes of human emotion (mainly happy) onto animals. My own fascination with caricatured creatures probably began with Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. Aside from their four fingered hands and odd noses, they seemed every bit as human as the characters in the funny papers - mouse, duck and dog didn’t enter my mind. Flea markets and yard sales are probably the best source of three dimensional versions of these benign beings and over the years I have photographed a number of them. I hope you enjoy this collection. Todd Smith Asheville, NC 2013
