This Sunday is The Presentation of Our Lord which is referred to in some corners of the church as Candlemas because of an ancient tradition of blessing all the candles to be used in the church in the coming year at the mass celebrated on that day. It was a way of underscoring the truth of Simeon’s confession that this baby Jesus was “a light for revelation to the Gentiles” and a light for glory to Israel.

St. John’s will be blessing the candles to be used in worship, and if you and your family would like to participate, please bring candles from home and place them on the Baptismal Font to be blessed.

Leadership Retreat Postposed!

Details about the reschedule event to come soon!

W.I.N.E. Meeting

Thursday, February 9 at 6:30 PM

Women Invested in Narrative Exploration will gather to explore the book of Ruth. Special thanks to our facilitator, Lee Ley!

We ask you read the book of Ruth ahead of the meeting. While not required, it will help if everyone can familiarize themselves to add to our discussion.

B.E.E.R. MEETING

Tuesday, February 28 at 6:00 PM Brothers Engaged in Enriching Relationships will meet at Schulz Brau Brewery (126 Bernard Ave.) After a couple months “break,” there will undoubtedly be some new stories and adventures to share.

If you’re not into beer, you are still very welcome as Schulz Brau has a variety of food and drinks on their menu. For any newcomers, their first beverage will be covered!

Contact Garry Menendez menendez@utk.edu or Jordan Baker jentolyn@gmail.com if you have any questions. Hope to see you there!

Parent’s Night on Saturday, February 4, from 4-8 pm

We are so excited about this next Parent's Night Out/Kid's Night In!

We have some great activities planned, including a craft table/quiet space, dinner and a movie, and then some great live Disney Karaoke, with Pastor John as your accompanist. We hope to put together a little show for the parents, so if you're able, come to the "showcase" at 8:00, have a glass of wine with friends, and listen (or get up on stage with your kids)! We'll have a few songbooks on hand; feel free to bring your own music if you have it!

Because this has turned into such a faithful event, and because we want to feed the teens who are volunteering their time, we're asking that parents contribute $10 per kid to cover food, snacks, etc. If that feels too steep, just let Misty Anderson know.

Sign up with the QR code, and let us know about any special needs or allergies. Please drop off your little person at 4:00 at the SJLC portico entrance and pick them up at 8:00, but again, we'd love it if you could come for the 15 minute Disney Karaoke Showcase, to start shortly after 8 in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring any special food they might need, a blanket, a stuffed animal friend, and a pillow (just in case we get sleepy!)
