March 15 6:00 PM Abbey Dinner with Communion

March 19 4th Sunday in Lent

What a gift to host Bishop Kevin Strickland and Assistant to the Bishop Allison Britton Lizdas for a Service of Renewal of Ordination Vows on Sunday, March 5!

Allison preached a powerful sermon about how Jesus sees us, frees us from those things that bind us; he lifts our drooping heads and accompanies us in new directions. Bishop Kevin provided sensitive pastoral care to rostered leaders and their families.

Nancy Klein Maland and Mari Firle Brooks hosted a beautiful reception, and tummies and souls were filled.

All in all, the day was a beautiful gift!

March 8, 15, 22, and 29

6:00 to 7:00 PM | Sparks Fellowship Hall

Our 1st Abbey Dinner last Wednesday was a lovely evening, with over 60 in attendance. Please plan to join us this Wednesday, March 8!

Do we have to be silent like monks? Definitely not!

Kids are encouraged to participate, but we’ll have helpers on hand, should or vice versa!

First, we’re borrowing from Southside Abbey in Chattanooga, a worship expression founded by Tyson House alumnus, the Rev. Dr. Bob Leopold. Second, our denominational founders, Martin and Katie Luther, lived in an abandoned monastery, and they hosted many dinner conversations, some of which were published as Luther’s Table Talk.

Third and most important, this meal is modeled on the first Communion, when Jesus blessed bread, saying, “This is my body, given for you." Then, after they had eaten, he blessed wine, “my blood, poured out for you, for the forgiveness of sin,” and led them out into the world.
