St Joseph's College Arts Festival 2018

Page 1

Welcome

Our annual Arts Festival, kindly supported by EastStaging and Red Rose Chain, commences on Tuesday 19 June in venues across the College campus and at the Avenue Theatre. Starting originally in 1995, the Arts Festival was the creation of Mr Michael Davey, an inspirational English teacher and Head of Sixth Form, whose sole aim was to bring joy to his students via embracing and promoting the Arts. Throughout its long history, this commitment to arts and culture has remained constant, yet the Festival continually evolves to match the ever-growing changes to arts and culture globally. With the Festival now in its 23rd year, we are also proud to celebrate the recognition the College has received from Sport England and Arts Council England as part of the Festival. To match the magnitude of our rich history and the many successes of the Arts Festival, the theme has been carefully chosen to inspire others to participate in - and enjoy! - the various opportunities being offered. This year’s theme is Carpe Diem, a Latin aphorism, meaning "seize the day", taken from the Roman poet Horace's work Odes (23 BC). We hope that during our Arts Festival you will join us at some of our events to celebrate the wealth of artistic and cultural diversity. Alongside these events there will be many other artistic workshops and enrichment activities for the whole College to enjoy.

We look forward to welcoming you to the 2018 Arts Festival. Victoria Harvey Head of Creative & Performing Arts Front cover designed by Leo Bignell, 10KBR
