TOTAL CREDITS: 3ECTS
This hands-on unit introduces server-side scripting as a means of complementing website development and an integral component in connecting website applications or similar environments to backend systems and databases. The unit introduces the basics theory of a web scripting language and its syntax including the use of variables, string manipulation, reading and writing from and to files. It then goes into the specifics of web server scripting by introducing the use of cookies, sessions and database interactions, along with other implementations such as the use of typical frameworks such as RESTful API’s. At the end of this unit the student will have acquired the responsibility and autonomy to: — assess the specifications and determine the appropriate setup to satisfy client needs; — set up the environment and develop the system using a web-scripting language and a database environment; — secure the environment appropriately against code injection and other attacks. The assessment for this unit will be computed using the following weighting system: — 70% Assessed Coursework — 30% Examinations
