Design Trends Must include features for your new home
1 subway tiles Why you need it: The great thing about Subway tiles is they can either be your star or supporting act depending on the grout. Use them as a feature in your bathroom or kitchen with black grout, or let them create a beautiful backdrop for other major accents by using white grout. It’s a classic look for any home and is simple to pair with any interior style. Hexagon and pentagon shapes are also making an appearance in classic bathroom tiling patterns plus large and small furnishings throughout the rest of the home. Look out for chairs, coffee tables and fabric patterns featuring these geometric shapes.
WHAT’S OLD IS NEW AGAIN We’re seeing a major resurgence of vintage ideas in designs for modern homes. Here are just a handful of our favourite trends.
statement lighting Why you need it: Give overhead lighting a miss, and instead chose statement pendants to base your interior styling around. Without the harsh ceiling lighting, you’ll not only create more space but you’ll be able to section off corners of the room. Make sure you plan your entire interior style before you chose the lights - impulse purchases aren’t helpful to anyone!

3 vintage bathrooms Why you need it: Vintage tubs are making a major comeback. Though the claw foot bath doesn’t have the modern luxurious attachments (like jets) it does come with plenty of old-style glamour to make up for it. Along with the baths, comes traditional hexagon tiling patterns in black and white, vintage sinks and splashbacks. This style is supposed to be quite classic and minimalist, without any bells and whistles, but if you execute it right it packs a serious design punch.

patterned wallpaper Why you need it: If you are over the all -white-walls look, invest in a statement wallpaper to add a pop of colour and a hint of your personality. Perfect for the bedroom or living space, choose a wall you would like to make the feature of the room and a colour that works with the other elements in the room. Wallpaper is a great alternative to painting as it is easy to pull down and re-paper when you are ready for a change.
STYLE SCOUTING
pastel
UPDATE YOUR LIVING SPACES BY INTEGRATING THESE EASY TO EXECUTE TRENDS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERIOR FURNISHINGS.
The first thought that comes to mind when you hear ‘pastel interior’ is most likely ‘too feminine’, but when paired with dark timber and metallics you’ve got a winning look for your family home. It’s important to choose your positioning wisely; for subtlety, incorporate mints, baby pinks and yellows by way of your small decor items; for impact, try an edgy wallpaper design that can easily be changed up in a few years when you want to try something new. You could even re-upholster one of your old fabric chairs with a pastel print to create a customised statement piece for your living room.
INCORPORATE COPPER IN PERMANENT FIXTURES IN ADDTION TO DECOR
COPPER
Copper and gold will pair perfectly with the rich, varnished timber and vintage prints in your antique furniture. Try incorporating geometric pieces for a modern twist. Metallic tones are also a nice addition to a neutral colour palette of whites and timber. Scatter copper pieces around the home but use restraint - less is more!

SCANDINAVIAN Simplicity is key in this trend. If you have white walls, unvarnished timber and large windows, allowing for light-filled rooms, you’re already halfway there. From here you can add small pops of earthy colours like ochre and olive, along with cool greys, and layer textures like leather, faux fur, linen, cotton or hemp. Consider incorporating sheepskin or cowhide, oversized woven cushions and wooden ladders, and keep table top decor to a minimum.
marble While it’s very on-trend, marble is a classic choice for interiors. It has long been used in kitchens and bathrooms, but we’re now seeing an emergence of the beautiful stone throughout the rest of the home. Using luxury materials to make grand statements (like entire walls laden with marble), means you have little more to do when it comes to decorating – it’s an art piece in itself. It fits in seamlessly with a modern design or you can use it as a way to update seventies hand-medowns. Inject marble elements like clocks, coasters, chopping boards, plates, bowls and cutlery or use it for your splashback. It’s important to note marble shows signs of aging over time, but that also means added character.
