Mission The Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation is dedicated to enhancing health services for children by raising money to support the Stollery Children’s Hospital and programs that promote health, prevent disease and treat illness. Funding provided by the Foundation supports health services for children though education, special services and acquisition of equipment.

All children have dreams. Dreams of becoming someone important…someone special. Dreams of one day becoming a doctor, or a nurse, a pilot or a firefighter. Dreams filled with health and happiness. But not all children have the chance to realize their dreams. Illness and injury can get in the way, creating obstacles often too big to overcome. The child who dreams of becoming a doctor, may instead be surrounded by them daily in the hospital. The child who dreams of being a pilot might only be able to fly as far as the model plane in their hand can reach.

Each year, medical advancements towards better cures and treatments for childhood illness and injury come with an increased need for funding. Tens of thousands of children are treated at the Stollery Children’s Hospital every year, each one with their own unique dreams and hopes for the future. Children from birth to 17 years from all over Central and Northern Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba,Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut and other parts of Canada come to the Stollery for leading-edge pediatric treatment. A dreamer’s dream come true More than twenty five years ago, Dr. Robert Stollery and a group of community leaders began advocating for a children’s hospital for Edmonton and Northern Alberta. Through their dedication, and the generosity of community-minded citizens, the dream of a dedicated pediatric hospital came true when the Stollery Children’s Hospital officially opened in October, 2001.
Today, the Stollery Children’s Hospital is a leader in children’s health. But Dr. Stollery’s greatest source of pride was the tireless efforts of staff, volunteers and donors who help ensure young Stollery patients receive the very best care. Dr. Stollery’s vibrant, warm and generous spirit will live on as, together, we continue to build on the success of the Stollery Children’s Hospital… a very special place of hope and healing.
Built from a foundation of vision and determination, the Stollery has fast become a premier children’s hospital in North America. A dream come true for its namesake and our Founder, Dr. Robert Stollery. It was on March 14, 2007, that this great leader passed the torch to all of us. After a long and very courageous battle with cancer, Dr. Stollery found peace. It was his tenacity and absolute belief that the children of Northern Alberta deserved a dedicated pediatric health care facility that has led the community to support the mission of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation over the years. His unwavering belief that we have a collective responsibility to assist those who need help, especially children, is what guides our work at the Foundation.
Making a difference in the lives of children Research is the future - it is the potential of discovering cures, better treatments and methods of diagnosis, the road to improving the care and recovery of sick and injured children. Research conducted at the Stollery, as part of the Women and Children’s Health Research Insitute, is vital to ensuring that children treated at the hospital recieve nothing less than leading-edge care.
High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilator
The High Frequency Oscillatory Ventilator is a delicate piece of equipment that inflates the lung of the premature or critically ill child with continuous pressure, resulting in rapid and sustained improvement in oxygenation of the blood, providing the ultimate in lung protection and support to the child’s respiratory system. Electroencephalography is the measurement of the electrical activity of the brain. By recording from electrodes placed on the scalp or, in special cases, on the brain, a child’s brainwaves are recorded on the equipment screen, allowing for certain conditions, such as seizures, to be detected and diagnosed. The children we serve Each year, 145,000 patient visits happen at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. More than 40 per cent of children treated at the Stollery are from outside the Capital Health Region, including from as far away as Nunavut, Yukon, Northwest Territories, and other parts of Canada. The Stollery currently provides pediatric health care services to one of the largest geographic areas in the world – over 440,000 square miles.

Miracle workers making their mark How does a dream as big as a dedicated pediatric hospital for the children of Western and Northern Canada become a reality? Through the generosity of donors, and incredible gifts of time and energy from thousands of volunteers. This year, more than 1,100 Miracle Workers donated over 8,000 hours to help raise funds for priority needs at the Stollery Children’s Hospital. It takes the hearts and hands of many to bring our fundraising events to life; to turn those dreams into reality. Our Miracle Workers make this possible – be it through selling Wear Your Bear merchandise, helping out at Snowflake Gala, answering phones at Radiothon, or working around the Foundation office. Annual events Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon Each year, four of Edmonton’s top radio stations broadcast live from the Stollery Children’s Hospital to raise money for miracles. Patients, families and staff share inpiring stories of their experiences at the Stollery, while hundreds of volunteers take pledges from listeners. To date, the event has raised $7.6 million.
Tee Up For Tots Each year, rain or shine, Edmonton golfers tee up in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. In seven years, this firstclass golf invitational has raised over $2.2 million for the Stollery.
Snowflake Gala Now Edmonton’s premiere black-tie family gala, Snowflake Gala, presented by Don & Marina Ghermezian, is an annual favorite for children and adults alike. It’s a unique night, held at the beginning of December each year, where families come to celebrate, dine, dance and fundraise in support of the Stollery.
Help Kids Hope Broadcast Standard Radio Edmonton teams up with the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation to hold the annual Help Kids Hope Broadcast. In just two years, this event, held in the heart of the Stollery Children’s Hospital at a play area called The Beach, has raised $800,000 for priority child health needs.
