Autumn flowers beautiful colours to welcome in the new season
The trees are golden, the air is a little nippy and some of the most beautiful blooms are appearing. Gone are the summer daisies and peonies and welcome to warm reds and russets, the soft glow of amber, burnt orange and mustard yellows, the rich green foliage… autumnal flowers boast the most wonderful colours and textures! There are many blooms to choose from at this time of year and even fruit and vegetables can make an exciting arrangement - pumpkins perhaps being the most obvious for the season, but ornamental cabbages, oranges and pomegranates can look fabulous too. We love: • • • • • • • • •
Sunflower Dahlia Celosia Chinese lantern Aster Chrysanthemum Anemone Ornamental cabbages and let’s not forget the beautiful rose
Door wreaths are popular and can be made with seasonal flowers, hedgerow branches and autumnal leaves. Let your imagination go wild with table decorations - autumnal flowers, small pumpkins, bowls of chestnuts and scattered leaves can make a big impact for little cost.
It’s the details that make a big difference
TOP LEFT: Herringbone flooring adds an elegant look to any home and runs through into the kitchen/diner, creating a link and a feeling of continuity TOP RIGHT: bring the inside out with stylish outdoor furniture, cushions and rugs BOTTOM LEFT: add texture and warmth with luxurious throws, patterned cushions - and snuggle up! BOTTOM RIGHT: turn a spare bedroom into a sewing room, music room or even a movie room!

You’ll be floored by all of the choices! We’ve put together a few of the most popular flooring choices but this is just the tip of the iceberg as there are literally hundreds of options.
Carpet remains popular as it is warm under foot and creates a cosy feel to any room. Carpets are normally made from wool and/or synthetic fibres such as nylon, polypropylene and polyester. The majority of synthetic carpets are resistant to stains and generally have a good resistance to wear. In addition, they are cost effective.
Wool carpets are more expensive, however it is a natural, luxurious, long-lasting material and is the softest carpet you can find. Unfortunately, wool is more susceptible to staining but you can get them treated with a ‘scotch guard’. Invest in the best underlay you can as it can really help make your carpet look, and feel sumptuous. You’ve probably heard of loop carpets like Berber and Sisel and they tend to be highly durable, easy to clean, and resistant to stains, making them
perfect for high-traffic rooms such as the lounge and stairs.
For areas that receive a lot of traffic, laminate, vinyl, ceramic tiling, and hard wood floors are the most common options.
Laminate combines the authentic look of a natural floor with many practical advantages, and it is a cost-effective option. It is made up of four layers ( we won’t bore you with the detail as google can help you with all of that), however it is extremely strong, stable and moisture-proof.
Vinyl is best known for its waterproof credentials, which makes it ideal for wet areas such as kitchens and bathrooms. It is relatively reasonably priced compared to hardwood floors, and this makes it perfect for areas of your home that get a lot of foot fall. Meanwhile, laminate is preferable if you want a more stylish appearance, lower cost, and a comfortable feel underfoot.
TOP TIP Buy the best underlay you can afford
Ceramic tiling is a convenient option for many rooms. We often use ceramic tiles in a show home as the effect is fabulous – and it’s especially good if you have pets. Ceramic tiles have a hard, solid surface and they are fairly easy to care for but as you move into the more ‘on-trend’ options, the costs rise. Hardwood floors are a bit of a minefield as there are so many options. There are two main
types of hardwood floors; solid and engineered. Solid wood is one of the most popular types of flooring and fans would agree that nothing beats real, solid hardwood. However, because of its popularity and quality, solid wooden flooring is often more expensive than engineered wood or laminate (both of which imitate hard wood flooring). An engineered hardwood floor is comparable to a hardwood floor,
but is still mostly more expensive than laminate, tile, and carpet.
Lastly, we’ll throw in ‘herringbone’, (a style of laying flooring) that draws on the elegant style of parquet flooring. It’s not the cheapest option but it looks fabulous and definitely worth adding to your list of options! (see page before for images of herringbone flooring).

Sneak peek... as we get our new ‘Weston’ show home ready at Skipton!
OPENING 20TH & 21ST NOVEMBER
You can’t go wrong with a classic country look and it never goes out of fashion. Sage greens and earthy tones are good choices and when added to wood and natural materials create a soft, warm and inviting feel. Greens are very popular right now and Laura Ashley have introduced two green shades into their kitchen range: bottle green and Atlantic green and we’ve used bottle green for the central island of our Weston kitchen - we can’t wait to unveil it! Below we’ve given a sneak peek as to the colours, textures and vibe of the new show home - we look forward to seeing you there!
RECIPE COURTESY OF THE YORKSHIRE PASTA COMPANY
The perfect pasta Sun-dried Tomato Tortiglioni with Crispy Garlic and Sage
INGREDIENTS • 150g Tortiglioni Yorkshire Pasta • 3 garlic cloves • 8 large sage leaves • 4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil • 8 large sundried tomatoes in olive oil (you will find in jars near the olives and antipasta) • 1 tbsp tomato puree • 2 tbsp crème fresh • 50g Parmesan finely grated • 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper • Pea shoots (optional) • Pasta water METHOD Step 1 Cook pasta to the packet instructions in plenty of salted water, this is a quick recipe so you should have time to make the sauce in the time it takes to cook the pasta. Step 2 Thinly slice the garlic and sage leaves and fry them until crisp in 2 tbsp’s of the extra virgin olive oil. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper to use for the garnish. Step 3 Keeping the remainder of the flavoured oil in the pan, drain the sun-dried tomatoes a little and roughly chop and add these into the oil on a gentle heat to begin to cook. Step 4 Add in the tomato puree and a little pasta water just to stop the paste from catching (you could use drop of white wine here if you prefer). Step 5 Add in the crème fresh and Parmesan and a little more water if needed to loosen the sauce, keep stirring the flavours together and add the black pepper. You don’t need salt here as the water and Parmesan will season this dish perfectly. Step 6 Once the pasta is just cooked nice an al dente, lift the pasta with a slotted spoon into the sauce and stir well so that the sauce coats the pasta. if needed at this point use a little more pasta water. Step 7 Serve immediately with the crunchy sage and garlic sprinkles and a fresh light grating of Parmesan. Add pea shoots for colour and freshness.

Yorkshire made products Does it get any better? THE YORKSHIRE PUDDING PIE COMPANY
It’s one of our favourite Yorkshire traditions - and 13th October was Yorkshire Pudding Day.
Being a Yorkshire based company, the team at Stonebridge Homes, love The Yorkshire Pudding Pie Company! The world’s first, original, one and only pie made with Yorkshire pudding, not pastry. With flavours such as wagyu cheeseburger, sausage and red onion, Sunday lunch, and cheesy leek and potato and all wrapped up in a Yorkshire pud. Made in Yorkshire, in small batches with locally sourced ingredients. - what’s not to love?
THE YORKSHIRE PASTA COMPANY
As the old saying goes, what you put in is what you get out, and the same goes for the quality of flour and the resulting pasta. The Yorkshire Pasta Company source their flour from a local mill, working directly with the miller, ensuring superb quality grain with the desired attributes for their recipe. The flour goes through strict quality checks at the mill, and each batch is inspected by them on arrival. They don’t use any eggs in their recipes, so their pastas are all vegan. And if that wasn’t enough, their pasta is placed in specially developed paper bags that are 100% recyclable and each one is sealed by hand with two signature metal fastenings. These fastenings make the bags look good but more importantly help them avoid using plastic!

Love decadent rich colours? ...then autumn is the perfect season for you
bouclé options in hues including ivory, blush, honey, pecan and anthracite.
We’re firmly into autumn. The trees have turned, it’s a little chillier and it’s getting dark earlier at night. Many of us admit to being a fan of the colder, darker months as it allows us to wrap up warm and change our interiors to suit – cosy and decadent are our autumnal suggestions for interiors.
It appears that anything ‘bouclé’, or ‘teddy bear’ is popular for autumn. Interior trends often come from the couture fashion houses and there’s probably none greater than Chanel’s iconic bouclé inspired collections. Bouclé textiles are set to be big in interiors this autumn, including chairs, foot stools, towels and throws. Arlo and Jacob in Harrogate have several furniture
If there’s ever a season where you can go decadent with rich colours, then it’s now. Bejewelled, luxurious fabrics, often in darker hues and heavy fabrics offer a different, yet still cosy feel, achieving a more classic, traditional look. Teal, burnt orange, mustard and burgundy all work well here and adding in some texture with velvets and tweeds would certainly create a sumptuous scheme. Try choosing a statement piece and accessorising around it and add some darker woods such as walnut and wenge. You can’t go wrong with a classic country look and it seems to come back every year. Sage greens and earthy tones are good choices and when added to wood and natural materials create a soft, warm and inviting feel. Greens are everywhere right now and Laura Ashley have introduced two green shades into their kitchen range: bottle green and Atlantic green, which is a lighter tone.
