Preparing your home for a Winter sale. If you’re thinking about selling this winter don’t think that you’re behind the eight ball. Selling in the winter has some positive benefits that can’t be utilized during other seasons. With less homes naturally being on the market, your home will be getting more attention from buyers. The buyers who are looking during this time of the year are extra motivated so being on top of your selling game is even more important. 1. Preparing your lawn for winter Most lawn varieties thrive throughout most of the year, but go dormant during the winter months. Winter can also be a critical time for your lawn’s overall health. If you want to maintain a healthy looking lawn throughout the winter and have it ready to spring back when the weather warms up, give it a little extra TLC in autumn. › Fertilising your lawn once a month before the cold sets in will help keep it healthy during winter. › A erating your lawn will loosen compacted soil. You can also spread gypsum to help break up subsoil clay. › Make sure the pH of the soil is at an optimal level of 6.5. › A s winter approaches, raise your lawnmower height. Longer blades of grass will help protect your lawn from frost. Longer blades of grass will also improve photosynthesis, creating a healthier lawn during the winter months when less sunlight is available. 2. Preparing your garden for winter Your garden may be in for a rough time in winter, especially if your plants aren’t indigenous to your location. There are a number of things you can do to protect them: › I f you are growing winter vegetables, a thick layer of mulch will protect them against the cold and help them thrive. › T horoughly weed and turn the soil. If you have some organic compost, spread some around and turn it into the soil. › I f you have plants that must be protected from frost, build light frames around them. In the evening, cover the frames with plastic or cloth to protect the plants from frost. Remove the covering first thing in the morning or the plants may get overheated during the day. › I f you have tropical or subtropical potted plants, move them to a protected area or indoors. Reduce watering of potted plants in winter, when they need less moisture to survive. › W hen we experience heavy rain, make sure you have provide adequate drainage for your plants. › Rake fallen leaves and add them to your compost pile. 3. Increase Lighting With the days being shorter during the winter, be sure that you have extra lights both inside and outside to brighten everything. Even if you are showing during the day. Be sure that you open all blinds or curtains to bring in as much natural light as possible. 4. Turn Up the Heat If a potential home buyer walks into a cold home, they will naturally have a “cold connotation associated with your home. Also, if home buyers are uncomfortable they could duck out of the showing early before exploring your entire home. So, be sure to turn the heat up to a comfortable temperature for everyone. 5. Maintain Exterior of the Home Clearing the gutters and drains are not only good practice for every homeowner, it’s particularly beneficial to sellers because it keeps the property looking and functioning best. This increases street appeal and decreases the chances of water damage or issues further into to inspection process. 6. Add Warm Seasonal Decor Cleaning and decluttering is always the name of the game. But on the other side of the coin, a sparse and sterile environment is not very welcoming. You want to create an atmosphere that will make people want to return and live in the home. Depersonalizing by taking photographs off the walls and kids artwork off the fridge is the first step. Decorating with warm and neutral textures is the second. Cozy, seasonal scents are strongly suggested as well to neutralize any lingering pet or food odors.
