Newly formed Abermain District Landcare Group held their first field day on Sunday 15th April at Centenary Park, Abermain. We had a great turnout with over 15 members receiving training in bush regeneration skills with John Hughson of Hunter Region Landcare Network. The group learned about assessing the site for weeds and native vegetation, habitat values, hydrology and soil stabilisation, creating a project plan, and work health and safety. Riverdene Nurseries in Gresford generously donated 40 native tubestock endemic to the area for planting. The group got their hands dirty planting the lomandra, dianella , bursaria and hardenbergia native shrubs and ground covers beneath the remnant Eucalypts on the Eastern side of the Park. Over the next two weeks, the group will take turns watering to ensure survival of the plants on site. Stop by and see for yourself the big difference small improvements can make.
