Welcome to The Orator Cambridge home to ‘Spirited dining, drinking and debate’ located in the heart of Cambridge and steeped in history as part of the Cambridge Union. Despite its new rise to fame as a public destination the venue boasts some of the most interesting past times in the city, home to one of the oldest, continuously running debating society in the world. Having undergone a £3.4 million renovation just a year ago, The Orator has fast become one of the most exciting new bars and restaurants in the local area coming out of post pandemic lockdown, delivering a contemporary and diverse menu to excite the most ardent and refined foodies.

Our immediate impression of The Orator is that it offers something for all occasions; a coffee catch up, date night, meal with friends, cocktails, and special occasions. The space has a perfectly balanced mixture of modern and historic, where light floods in through the original exterior façade onto the famous guest faces mounted on the wall. Since its inception, The Cambridge Union has played host to some of the most incredible guests including Bill Gates, Emma Thompson, Chris Eubank and Cambridge local; Stephen Fry The menu, led by Head chef Ben Pope uses fresh, locally sourced ingredients and comprises a host of classics with a twist. In addition, the team like to regularly add to the theatre and keep you guessing with with seasonally inspired specials. We’re feeling truly blessed to celebrate The Orator’s first birthday. We would like to thank everyone for their support so far and we encourage anyone, who hasn’t yet discovered us, to come and join us in the coming months

As the weather starts to turn and the sun rears its head from behind the clouds, you can look forward to summer cocktails in the courtyard, accessible from both Round Church St and Bridge Street. If you know, you know and it seems that the word is starting to get out as we have been informed that on the warmer days this has become a popular destination to soak up the rays. In this setting you can expect a laid back atmosphere to while away the afternoon, Joe Burman, General Manager, explained they are trying to bridge the town and gown divide by opening this space to the public. Founded in 1815, our building is steeped in heritage and has been visited by many famous people over the years; Winston Churchill, Theodore Roosevelt, the current Dalai Lama and more recently, Robert Di Niro!
