FLOOR SOLUTIONS Vale Inco Hydromet Nickel Processing Test Facility Argentia, Newfoundland & Labrador

AREA: 30,000 SQUARE FEET TEST FACILITY

PRODUCTS USED: • STONCHEM Construction of the Hydromet Demonstration Plant at Argentia, NL was an important step toward the realization of a commercial-size Hydromet Nickel Processing Facility for Newfoundland.

THE CHALLENGE This test facility was a scaled down version of the proposed Commercial Plant and would be subjected to the same environmental challenges present in the full production facility.

One of those challenges was to provide a lining system for the concrete substrate that would withstand the corrosive environment in the processing areas and function well under those conditions. Some of the performance requirements for such a lining system include:

Chemical Resistance: The lining system had to be resistant to the chemicals present in the processing operation. Slip Resistance: The lining system had to be a non-skid finish to reduce slip and fall accidents. Wear Resistance: The lining system must be tough enough to handle forklift and truck traffic without experiencing gouges or deterioration. Life Expectancy: The lining system had to be designed so that it met the life expectancy of the project and was cost-effective for the purpose of this facility.

THE STONHARD SOLUTION This challenge was met with a chemical resistant lining system from the Stonhard product line. With nearly a century experience with manufacturing chemical resistant coatings and linings worldwide, Stonhard serves industries from mining, pulp and paper, marine and power generation.
