The Pepsi Coliseum, formerly the Québec Coliseum, a multi-purpose arena is owned and operated by the City of Québec. The Youth Pavilion also belongs to Québec City. Stonhard was hired to renovate the two buildings in 2007. THE CHALLENGE In 2008, the Colisée Pepsi played host to the IIHF World Men’s Hockey Championship. In preparation for this monumental sporting event, the arena required exstensive renovations. A total of 65,000 square feet of new flooring was required that included the seating areas and all entrance ways. It was very important that the new flooring system be a hard, impact resistant solution that would also be easy to clean. The Pavillon de la Jeunesse, which falls under the same ownership as the Colisée Pepsi, had similar requirements so the products and solutions were applied to both facilities. The Pavillon de la Jeunesse also required a new flooring system in the concession and concourse area.
• STONCREST GS3 THE STONHARD SOLUTION The Stonhard team recommended a system of Stonset PM5, Stoncrest GS3 and Stonkote GS4. The existing floors required a large amount of preparation prior to the installation of the new system. The existing surface was properly prepared with a Blastrac machine. Stonset PM5 is a 100% solids epoxy patching mortar. Due to its non-sag, lightweight consistency, it is used to permanently patch and repair horizontal, vertical and overhead voids. Stoncrest GS3 is a two-component coating that cures to a very hard, impact resistant finish. It offers exceptional chemical and abrasion resistance, making it an ideal coating for the Colisée Pepsi arena. Stonkote GS4 is formulated to increase abrasion and chemical resistance while improving cleanability. This coating also hardens to an attractive gloss finish.
