preventing material build up and ensuring the best quality outcome. An additional 5 layers were added to the tops and bottoms of the columns on each floor as required by the Engineer’s design.

THE SOLUTION The project Engineer recommended installing a Carbon Fibre strengthening system to support the weight. The column, which stands 14.6 metres tall and 750 millimeters in diameter, was axially reinforced using CarboComp 300 UD textile and 5800 Carbo LPL adhesive.

CarboComp Textile 300 is a unidirectional carbon fibre textile with strand oriented in longitudinal direction used to increase the bearing capacity of columns in bridges and buildings and the shear strength of beams. This textile is adhered to the surface with 5800 Carbo LPL adhesive.

10 layers (3,000 oz./sq.yd.) of Carbon Fibre were applied to the full height of the column. Staggering areas of overlap maintained an even application of the Carbon Fibre,
