Ross Video Ltd. is a privately held Canadian firm headquartered in Iroquois, Ontario, that specializes in the design and manufacture of cutting-edge equipment for live events and video production. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of products and services, including cameras, production switchers, robotic camera systems, augmented reality/virtual studios, video servers, and routers.
With a significant presence in the industry, utilizing its equipment in over 500 events per year, Ross Video partnered with Stonhard, a leader in flooring solutions for a century, to ensure the protection of its electronics manufacturing facility against electrostatic discharge (ESD).
THE CHALLENGE
ESD is a significant concern in the electronics industry for facilities like Ross, where even a small electrostatic charge can cause damage to sensitive electronics, circuit boards, and microchips. The recommended limit for ESD is below 1000V, making it critical for Ross Video to maintain proper ESD control in its manufacturing facility. The existing floor tiles in their existing facility had cracked over time, so Ross Video looked for a more durable and aesthetically pleasing option for their facility extension.
THE STONHARD SOLUTION
Stonhard’s seamless ESD floors were considered a superior alternative to traditional tiles due to increased static dissipation. The elimination of grout joints minimized the accumulation of dirt and grime, contributing to a more hygienic work environment and reducing the risk of damaging shocks. Ross Video also desired a flooring solution that was aesthetically appealing and durable which Stonhard was able to provide.
After a thorough evaluation of the facility’s requirements, Stonhard recommended the Stonlux ESD 2mm flooring solution. This ultra-smooth, liquid-rich self-levelling floor provided excellent static control and low friction and demonstrated chemical and impact resistance. The Stonlux ESD sample was provided for testing, with readings under 1 ohm, and was approved as a cost-effective and easy-to-maintain solution compared to ESD tiles. Ross Video was extremely satisfied with the outcome, as Stonhard’s system exceeded their expectations.
Stonhard’s ESD floors are made with conductive materials blended into the systems, using either carbon-filled primers or conductive pigments. These floors provide excellent ESD protection by dissipating the static charge to the ground. Additionally, they retain the same outstanding properties as the other floors in Stonhard’s portfolio, including chemical and abrasion resistance, making them an ideal solution for electronics manufacturing facilities.
