안녕? 나는 강다은이야. 나는 지금 2학년이야. 그리고 3반. 나는 이것을 쓸 때 기분이 좋아. 다른 친구들이 읽는다고 생각하면 기뻐. 너는 우리나라 (한국)을 알고 있니? 우리나라에는 ‘김치’라는 맛있는 음식이 있어. 너희들도 맛 보 면 좋겠다. ‘태권도’라는 무술도 있어. 나는 그것을 배웠었지만 그만뒀어. 힘들었거든. 그 만큼 기쁨도 가득했지만. 다음 에 또 이런 것을 적어 보는 날이 오면 좋겠다. 안녕.
Hi, my name is Daeun. I am second year elementary student. And our class room number is three. I am happy to be writing this. It makes me happy to think that other friends would be reading this. Do you know about Korea, my country? In Korea, we have delicious food called ‘Kimchi’. I wish you could taste it, too. We also have ‘Taekwundo’ which is our national martial art. I used to learn it, but I quit it because it was too hard for me. It was still fun. I wish I can write again like this in the future. Bye-bye.

안녕 나는 송이야. 지금 나는 2학년이야. 나는 가족이 4명이야. 그리고 나는 고슴도치 를 기르고 있어. 고슴도치 이름은 보리야. 이름이 예쁘지? 그리고 나는 꿈이 많아. 그 중에서도 나는 선생님이 제일 되고 싶어. 왜냐하면 나는 우리 반 선생님처럼 많은 어린이들에게 아는 것을 가르쳐주고 싶어서야.
Hi, my name is Song-e. I am second grade student at an elementary school in Korea. There are four people in my family. I also have a pet hedgehog. Her name is Bory. Isn’t her name pretty? I have many dreams. Among them, I want to be a teacher the most because like my teacher, I want to tell many things to little children.

오늘은 상쾌한 토요일 아침! 아영이가 엄마, 아빠와 동물원에 가는 날이에요. 아영이가 제일 좋아하는 사슴을 보러 갈 거에요. What a cheerful Saturday morning! Today is the day Ayoung visits a zoo with her mom and dad. They are going to see deers, Ayoung’s favorite animal.

동물원에 도착해서 멋진 뿔이 달린 엄마 사슴과 귀여운 아기 사슴을 보았어요. When they arrived, they could see a mother deer, and a cute little baby deer.

바로 그 때, 옆에서 ‘쿵’ 하는 소리가 들렸어요. Just then, there was a thump beside them.

개구쟁이 꼬마들이 작은 토끼 우리에 돌멩 이를 던지고 있었어요. Some mischievous kids were throwing stones at a small rabbit hutch.

그러자 직원들이 개구쟁이들을 혼내기 시작했어요. A zoo staff began to scold them.

그런데 그 사이에무언가 한 마리가 도망갔어요. 그리고 그 노란 동물이 아영이의 당근 색깔 휴대폰을 낚아채 갔어요. Then suddenly, one yellow animal started to run away. This yellow animal went away snatching Ayoung’s carrotcolored cell phone.

아영이는 깜짝 놀라서 그 동물을 쫓아갔어요. 노란 동물이 너무 빨라서 어떤 동물인지 알아차릴 수 없었어요. Astonished Ayoung chased the yellow animal quickly. However, it was so fast that Ayoung could not recognize what kind of animal it was.

노란 동물은 말 우리와 코끼리 우리를 지나 공작새 우리가 있는 쪽으로 도망갔어요. It passed by the horse cage, elephant cage, and ran towards the cage of peacocks.

아영이가 공작새가 있는 곳에 도착했을 때, 노란 동물은 귀를 쫑 긋 세우고 공작새의 아름다운 날갯짓을 구경하고 있었어요. When she arrived at the place where peacocks were, the yellow animal was pricking its ears, watching a peacock’s beautiful flapping of the wings.

아영이는 숨이 차고 목이 말랐어요. Ayoung had no breath left and became very thirsty.

그것은 토끼 우리에서 도망친 토끼였어요. 아영이는 살금살금 다 가가서 토끼를 잡으려 했지만, 토끼의 부드러운 털만 손에 닿았어 요. 노란 토끼는 깡총깡총 뛰어 도망갔어요. It was the rabbit that ran away from the hutch! Ayoung made a stealthy approach, and tried to catch the rabbit, but she was left only with a soft feeling of the fur in her hands. The yellow rabbit scampered and ran away again.

매점 앞을 지나던 토끼는 자동문이 열리자 매점 안으로 쏙 들어 갔어요. 그리고 열려있는 뒷문을 지나 토끼는 당근 밭을 발견 했어요. The moment it was passing by the store, it went inside the store as the automatic door opened. After passing through the back door, it found a field filled with many carrots.

토끼는 도망가는 것도 잊고 당근을 먹기 시작했어요. 아영 이는 다시 살금살금 다가가서 토끼를 잡으려고 했어요. 토끼는 다시 깡총깡총 뛰어서 도망가려고 했어요. 하지만 당근을 너무 많이 먹은 토끼는 멀리 도망가지 못했어요. The rabbit began to eat the carrots, forgetting that it was running away. Ayoung tried to catch it near its tiptoe. The rabbit almost fled again. But it could not go much far this time, because its stomach was too full of carrots.

아영이는 토끼를 안고 당근색 휴대폰으로 부모님께 전화를 했어요. Ayoung called her parents with her cell phone holding the rabbit in her arms.

그리고 노란 토끼를 데리고 토끼가 도망쳤던 우리로 돌아가서 토끼를 넣어 주었어요. 부모님은 아영이가 갑자기 사라져서 많이 걱정하셨지만, 토끼를 찾아온 아영이가 자랑스럽다고 하셨어요.

She then went back to the hutch that rabbit has escaped and put it back in. Ayoung’s parents were so worried because Ayoung had suddenly disappeared. But they said that they are proud of Ayoung, for she found the rabbit that has escaped.
