Why the wolf doesn’t eat bread Lithuanian traditional story


One day the wolf was very hungry. He saw a farmer eating bread. It smelled very delicious!


“Can I have some bread?” asked the wolf. “You have to make it yourself,” replied the farmer.


“First you have to plough the field”


“Can I eat it now?”


“No. You have to saw the seeds.”


“Can I eat it now?”


“No. You have to wait until the rye grows. Then cut it.”


“Can I eat it now?”


“No. You have to beat the grains out.”


“Can I eat it now?”


“No. You have to make flour.”


“Can I eat it now?”


“No. You have to make the dough.”


“Can I eat it now?”


“No. You have to bake the bread.”


“Can I eat it now?”


“Yes, you can!”


“Oh no! It’s too much work. I better go hungry than work so hard.”
